Can you name no brainer things that had the GOP been on the right side of that would have saved their party?
To take a few easy ones off the table:
Creationism is a real theory
Global Warming is a farce
Torture is ok

Put the merits of “further enriching the wealthy” at the center of all economic theory.

Break the country into two warring factions along regional and cultural lines and hope to have the slightly larger piece when the dust settles.

The fundamentals of our economy are strong, my friends.

Each time a Repub reaches for sanity on any of these issues they lose another part of the base. So no, they cannot save the party by saying these things. The party is doomed by its own inherent contradictions.
The only thing that can save it is a charismatic individual who can paper over the contradictions *cough* Reagan *cough*

The private market is a pure, unsullied creature that can solve any problem.

Tax cuts pay for themselves.
With the newly written Obama Caveat that tax cuts to people who are not in the upper income brackets will never pay for themselves.

Deficits don’t matter
Tax increases don’t effect the economy
Only government can save the economy
From Obama’s FUBAR view of the economy.

they don’t. Talk to an economist. Even Clinton’s balanced budget was really a deficit since the national savings rate was so low and consumer debt was so high. The difference is that the debt has/was transerferred to the average citizen.
Only government can save the economy.
Prove to me that private business can. Oh wait, you just had 8 years and you didn’t

DV,
Republicans love deficits as long as they pay for tax cuts for the rich and for war.
Comment by Donsquishydishimaharishi on 24 May 2009 at 10:47 pm:
good point.
Didn’t their god Reagan raise taxes….
shhhhhh, it’s a secret and destroys the myth of the legend.
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 24 May 2009 at 11:38 pm:
Reagan gave the biggest tax increase in history. But it doesn’t count for Republicans because only income taxes count, or something. I don’t really understand their logic.

Mike says,
• Democrats:
Deficits don’t matter – They do matter, very much, but when the self-absorbed, my-level-of-patriotisms-begins-and-ends-with-me, my-family-and-back-pocket, screw-everyone-else Republican’s run us into the ground. American’s of more noble conviction have to clean things up.
Tax increases don’t effect the economy – What we need to do is tax the hell out of people that rewrote or lobbied to rewrite regulatory systems to apse their self-indulgence at the expense of all other Americans and demand our money back!
Only government can save the economy – At this point, after what you’ve done….YES!
From Obama’s FUBAR view of the economy. – Yeah, its just Obama. The rest of the industrialized nations of the world are blinded by Obama too.
Mike, “That dog just won’t hunt no more.”
