The Courage of Your Convictions.

Anti-American Governor Rick Perry of Texas wants his state to secede from the Union. Yet today he wants America’s help.

Gov. Rick Perry today in a precautionary measure requested the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide 37,430 courses of antiviral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile to Texas to prevent the spread of swine flu. […]

“As a precautionary measure, I have requested that medication be on hand in Texas to help curb the spread of swine flu by helping those with both confirmed and suspected cases of this swine flu virus, as well as healthcare providers who may have come in contact with these patients,” said Gov. Rick Perry. “We will continue to work with our local, state and federal health officials to ensure public safety is protected.”

Indeed, I am sure the next time a tornado or a hurricane plows through Texas, he will want FEMA’s help. And I am sure he won’t be returning the $200 billion Texas got in defense contracts between 2000 and 2007. I am sure he will scream bloody murder if Ft. Hood or NASA’s mission control headquarters in Houston are ever closed.

Rick Perry is a disgrace. Obviously he has no problem being part of the United States, and benefiting from the federal government’s generosity. And he has no problem turning to the federal government for help in times of emergency. If he was a man of conviction and truly viewed the United States as an oppressive tyrannical government, he would refuse help and money from America. Instead, he is just a right wing opportunist. He is widely expected to face Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson in the GOP Primary in 2010, and without a large turnout among the radical base of the Republican Party, he will lose. So he merely talked secession to gin up his own reelection prospects. The problem is, that genie is now out of the bottle, and some in the radical right are now talking about genocide as a means to further their ideological goals.

All the anti-stimulus governors are a bunch of hypocrites as far as I’m concerned. Republican Congresspeople were taking credit for projects in their own districts, despite voting “no” on the stimulus. As far as they’re concerned, pork is spending in other people’s districts.
