Unfortunately I indicated an erroneous year for the Missouri Compromise and was scolded by Dr Newton. (I probably deserved it.) My point was as stated by DD here. Lincoln fought the Civil War over it and now we are suppose to pretend like this federalism, "states rights", ultra libertarian position is so noble. I'm all for personal freedoms and states rights, but if you talk about secession we have a big problem. And I don't care what Steve says, it's seditious. Welcome to the party, folks. On a trivial note, we need a US History buff/scholar in here, quick, and this is why: technically, I don't think Texas ever has been a "state." It's apparently in their blood to not want to be 100% fully absorbed by the US. They are a Republic, but one that abides by the US Constitution and, I believe, has all the fancy trappings of statehood, but not technically a state. It's just a whole lot easier to call them a state. That's what I want a US History buff/scholar for. This has been something I have heard since high school, but always gave it the, "Do I really look like I care," response. Oh hell, let's extend that to our Commonwealth "states," too. Are they really states? I know VA and PA are Commonwealths, but I thought there was a third. Is it MA? Anyone? Help? Let 'em all leave! Then we can invade them and merge them into existing states.
