Right-Wing Gun Nut Kills 3 Pittsburgh Police

Filed in National by on April 4, 2009

Some info on the 22-year-old gunman who killed 3 Pittsburgh police, Richard “Pop” Poplawski, who wore a bulletproof vest while mowing down the officers:

Mr. Perkovic and other former classmates said they were surprised by this morning’s events. Mr. Perkovic said Mr. Poplawski was opposed to “Zionist propaganda” (sound familiar?) and was fearful that his right to own weapons would be taken away but he wasn’t a member of an organized group or militia.

“He always said that if someone tried to take his weapons away he would do what his forefathers told him to do and defend himself.”

Another friend, Aaron Vire, 23, said he’d helped Mr. Poplawski and Mr. Perkovic with a radio show they’d broadcast on the Internet, discussing “politics, girls and life.”

Mr. Poplawski had supported Republican candidate John McCain in the presidential election and had “very spirited debates” about Democratic candidate Barack Obama, Mr. Vire said. Mr. Poplawski was opposed to Mr. Obama’s election, which he thought would result in the loss of his rights, Mr. Vire said.

Mr. Poplawski told him he bought his guns “because he felt the quality of life was being diminished,” Mr. Vire said.

All ‘bulo can say is, 2nd Amendment, his bleeping butt!

Mr. Poplawski was opposed to “Zionist propaganda” and was fearful that his right to own weapons would be taken away…

It this case his rights should have been taken away. I hope we can all at least agree on that.

Ah, so Jason hates the 1st Amendment as well as the 2nd. I suspect the 4th and 5th are under his hammer as well!

Congrats Jason, you’re officially a Fascist!

    WEEEEEEEEEEE

  3. Truth Teller says:

Right Wing nuts on talk radio along with that wacky congresswoman from Minn. helped foster that rumor about Obama taking away guns. And the GOP let the lie stand.

  4. jason330 says:

    Weer’d,

That comments makes no sense whatsoever. I’m used to that from you though. Carry on.

  5. Weer'd Beard says:

Do you want me to sound out the longer words for you, Jason?

Don’t worry, 3rd grade grads know what I’m talking about. Try to flag one down to get them to translate logic to “progressive”

  6. jason330 says:

Again… nonsense. Maybe instead of blathering on nonsensically you should tell everyone how this kind of thing would not happen if we were all armed.

  7. a. price says:

jason, he makes a crazy argument, than claims victory. weer’d is just a crazed gun lover

  8. Delaware Dem says:

Self fulfilling prophecy. This conservative gun-loving murderer feared his rights would be taken away, so he bought tons of guns, beat his wife, and killed 3 police officers. And now his rights, and his very life, will be taken away.

Maybe this is a conspiracy. Maybe enough conservative murderers will commit enough massacres so that the right to own a gun is severely curtailed. Maybe that is their plan all along.

  9. jason330 says:

jason, he makes a crazy argument, than claims victory. weer’d is just a crazed gun lover

As long as he does not shoot me, he can claim victory until the cows come home a far as I’m concerned.

  10. Unstable Isotope says:

Just because you declare victory doesn’t mean you’re victorious. Carry on with the regularly scheduled gun blogging.

  11. a. price says:

the catch22 proved today, is that if these wing nuts feel like WE have won, they shoot people.

  12. a. price says:

we must let them feel like they won so they dont feel threatened.

Weer’d. you are the master blogger oonga moonga *avoids eye contact* please have more guns. please to accept this gift of ammo and pelts.

  13. Delaware Dem says:

I want to quote Markos, because he hits the nail on the head:

This appears to be an inevitable result of the bad economy, a conservative movement circling the drain, feeling betrayed, isolated, and defeated, and the rampant eliminationist talk from right-wing nutjobs on the radio and TV.

[It’s] important to see the aftermath of right-wing hysteria, because this is likely just the beginning. Unless the Becks (and Beck-wannabees) walk back from that ledge, they’ll be to blame for more atrocities of this sort.

Obama isn’t coming for anyone’s guns. The NRA won that battle years ago and the Democrats have long since moved on. Yet the eliminationists carry on, whipping their readers and listeners into a frenzy of panic and fear, and as a result, four little girls (and a young woman) don’t have dads tonight. And I fear today was just the beginning.

Sure, some of us liberals and Democrats, in our perfect world, would either heavily regulate guns, or would ban them completely. I am not one of them, personally. Sure, I am for common sense restrictions that are already in place, like background checks, waiting periods, and a ban on certain assault weapons and armor piercing bullets. But that’s it. As a realist, I acknowledge the Second Amendment, and the Supreme Court’s recent ruling upholding the constitutionality of gun ownership.

So listen up you paranoid weak conservative victims:

NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS. YOU WON THE RIGHT TO KEEP THEM LONG AGO.

Yet you babies continue to cry. I suppose it is because you can only operate out of fear and hatred. You all have to hate and fear something. So you make up supposed threats to your rights and survival. You pretend that stimulus spending is socialism and oppressive. You create phantom movements to take your beloved guns. You are all crazy, and you are all weak.

“Right Wing nuts on talk radio along with that wacky congresswoman from Minn. helped foster that rumor about Obama taking away guns.”

Or maybe Obama did? You know…when he said he would in the primary.

“NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS. YOU WON THE RIGHT TO KEEP THEM LONG AGO.”

  15. anon idiot says:

    Jason,

So what *did* you mean by this?

“It this case his rights should have been taken away.”

  16. So let’s see — since the guy who shot up the immigrant center in New York was a minority quoted as saying “America sucks”, would it be appropriate to use him as a poster child for left-wing violence?

  17. Unstable Isotope says:

Conservatives are the ones who think America sucks. They’re the ones who are advocating violent overthrow of the government, not liberals.

  18. Weer'd Beard says:

Nope, the Liberals are just advocating the overthrow of the human rights that MAKE America America.

Bush wasn’t much better, And many of us simply defended him over the alternative (seriously, look at his approval ratings, yet he got re-elected)

But Obama has only been in office a few Months and look at the rights he’s fixing to destroy!

At this rate he’ll surpass Bush handily inside of 4 years. I hope that doesn’t happen, but the lefties are cheering him on!

  19. anon idiot says:

“But Obama has only been in office a few Months and look at the rights he’s fixing to destroy!”

    And which Ones are those?

(continuing the proud tradition of randomly capitalizing letters)

  20. anon says:

But Obama has only been in office a few Months and look at the rights he’s fixing to destroy!

Weer’d: do you get the same newsletters as the crazy shooters?

  21. Unstable Isotope says:

Rightwingers: once again ignoring the question and whacking away at the strawmen that exist only in their fever swamps.

  22. Isotope, where have you been for the last four decades or so. All you have to do is look at the rhetoric and actions of the Left since the 1960s to see where their entire argument is “America sucks — we have to change it into something more like Europe (or the Soviet Union or China or Cuba)”. On the other hand, the rhetoric of the Right has been “America needs to adhere to the principles upon which it was founded (see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for details).” The Right argues that America’s greatness can be maintained by being true to itself, while the Left argues America is not great and needs to become something else.

  23. And don’t forget — those who were responsible for the establishment of our current Constitution overthrew not just one, but two, governments in their lifetimes. After all, they not only fought a successful military revolution, but also engaged in a bloodless coup to establish the Constitution in violation of the existing framework of government (the Articles of Confederation) and their mandate from the Confederation Congress and their respective state legislatures (to propose revisions and amendments for the Articles). Did they think America sucked, or did they merely believe that the great land in which they lived was plagued by bad government and ought to be changed?

  24. pandora says:

RWR #22 is laughable. It’s not the left that’s been trashing Civil Liberties in the name of keeping us safer. And I’m really tired of statements that imply the right has dibs on the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. They don’t, it’s simply more real American crap.

I’m sick of the gun debate – talk about strawmen! No one is advocating taking your guns. The real discussion – and one the gun crowd continues to avoid while lovingly stroking their guns – is about violence and the way guns raise the body count.

So let’s make this clear: We are not discussing responsible gun owners – It’s not always about you. It’s about a societal problem. And for some reason you guys refuse to be part of the solution. It’s always about your rights and your guns.

Which always baffles me. I would think that the gun enthusiasts would be on the front line when it comes to these shootings – that they would want to distance themselves, as a very vocal group, from these tragedies. Instead, the arguments always come back to the same points…

    1. 2nd Amendment
    2. I’m a responsible gun owner
    3. Gun laws don’t work

The first two I have no problem with, but the third just begs the argument for new and tougher laws, not less. It’s almost as if gun enthusiasts are looking for a fight.

  25. a. price says:

they are looking for a fight… and the have guns. than the Bachmans and Becks of the world tell lies to get attention and…. now 3 officers in pitt are dead.

  26. anon says:

the rhetoric of the Right has been “America needs to adhere to the principles upon which it was founded (see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for details).”

No, RWR… it’s more like “See us for details.

  27. a. price says:

America’s principles say nothing about slavery. we had slaves for almost 100 years after those principles were formed. throughout history we have re examined them to make things better. you are a fundamentalist who uses snipits of your dogma to justify your claims, without taking reality into account, which, seems to have a liberal bias lately.
no one will ever win this argument… but what we should be able to agree on, is that lies about what is going to happen to people’s guns is getting people killed. Weer’d, RWR since it hasn’t gotten through yet, i’ll say it too. no one wants YOUR guns!! get over yourselves

  28. Tom S. says:

“Conservatives are the ones who think America sucks.”

    Those literally are fighting words.

“I’m sick of the gun debate – talk about strawmen! No one is advocating taking your guns.”

If by no one, you mean the President of the United States.

“The first two I have no problem with, but the third just begs the argument for new and tougher laws, not less.”

Show me a city or state where that has worked and I’ll consider it.

“Weer’d, RWR since it hasn’t gotten through yet, i’ll say it too. no one wants YOUR guns!!”

Again, the President of the United States made such commitments on the campaign trail and the Attorney General has announced his intention to follow up on them.

  29. a. price says:

prove it. the burden of proof is on you to produce those clips. and they are there, because if he said it, it was on tv, and it is now on youtube. prove it

    done

  31. pandora says:

Tom, you’re making my point with your “Show me a city or state where that has worked and I’ll consider it. ”

This is obviously a fight you want to have, and the way things are headed you just might get your way. If the laws aren’t working, and you guys refuse to stop looking in the mirror, then where are we headed? What is the solution?

And while you ponder that, ponder this… why are people who kill many people in other countries labeled Islamofascists, but people who do the same thing in this country are considered isolated crazies. Consistency would be nice.

  32. pandora says:

Tom, your link refers to assault weapons – and I’m not getting into a debate on that definition. No where in that article does it say that anyone is advocating taking away everyone’s guns. In fact, it’s Pelosi who back-pedaled away from the gun fight.

Is this really the best you have? Three police officers are dead because of this rhetoric. They were assassinated in a planned attack fueled on by irresponsible language.

  33. Truth Teller says:

    TOM S
Your talking like a ditto head that listens to that Junkie Rush.

Give me the link where Obama said he would take away guns if elected. If you can’t produce it then I know that you along with the other gun nuts get you info from a Dope Head.

  34. RWR #22 is laughable.

    oh yes. Horrible too.

  35. Truth Teller says:

I read your link and it doesn’t Quote Obama just the AG saying he might reconsider the law that banned assult weapons. for your info that was the law before Obama got elected.

  36. Truth Teller says:

Folks are we sure that TOM S is not Mike Operating under an assumed name??????????????????

  37. a. price says:

tom, your link didnt support your claim. fail

  38. a. price says:

tom, weer’d, wrw, where is the clip of Obama saying “i am going to take your guns” ? it is there isn’t it? otherwise your claims would be idiotic…. oh wait.. i get it now

  39. jason330 says:

The NRA knows that it’s claims that Obama wants to take away guns are false, but it also knows that there are a great many empty headed dipshits out there that will buy the lies and swell the membership ranks and move merchandise.

The NRA and gun industry is profiting through this mayhem – why shouldn’t they want to keep the furnace of lies and hate fully stoked?

Oh..yeah…they are Americans…thats why. Anyway, they claim to be Americans.

  40. anon says:

Actually Tom, Holder mentioned a ban on the sale of assault weapons, which means if you have one, he would force you to keep it.

  41. cassandra_m says:

The entire wingnut industry has held on to what little relevance they may still have by continuing to push the many fictions they created about Obama to scare up their base. The Obama wants your guns bit is one more in the many falsehoods these people keep pushing as talking points. Unfortunately, some people actually believe this shit, and now people are being killed because of it.

Another incidence of Americans dying for wingnut talking points.

  42. a. price says:

looks like tom has tucked his tail and tepidly tiptoed away…

    Who is doing the killing?

    OK Corral?

  45. Miscreant says:

“26 Murders in Wilmington for 2008.

Odd, I would have never pictured Wilmington as a haven for right-wing gun nuts.
