Breaking: Tommywonk to Join Board of NRG

Filed in Delaware by on April 1, 2009

I just got a press release from NRG announcing that Tom Noyes, Delaware’s most famous blogger and strongest environmental finance guru has been asked to join the board for the owner of the infamous Indian River Power Plant.  From the press release:

Tom’s experience in battling NRG in Delaware has shown us that there is great opportunity in having a thoughtful, energetic environmental voice in our corner.  Tom will be able to talk about the benefits of carbon sequestration and our other clean-coal initiatives.

In an email exchange with Tom this morning, he explained his decision to accept the post:

I will be able to really have an impact on the policies of NRG from the inside.  Let’s face it, coal, oil and natural gas are going to be around for a long time, so we might as well make the best of it.  I will also get access to a corporate jet and a number of really nice perks that will allow me to dedicate all of my time to promoting ways to lessen the environmental impact of power generation.

While I am happy for Tom, I cannot help but think that this will make him less available to the renewable energy crowd and is a blatant attempt to neuter him as a voice for the environment.  I fear that we will all remember this date for a long time.

Note to future Googlers:  This is an April Fools Joke

Now if I could just get the composter on the jet…

I think you should have said Stockbridge and Kowalko pitch it to the NRG.

Heart still beating but you gave me quite a scare. Glad it’s only an April Fools joke.

Yes, post in a comment thread on this site, but don’t forget to put the name “Dave Burris” within that comment. Sure enough, that just seems to drive up the hits and will likely land it on a top link for a Google search. Of course, the search will show the comment thread, but if you put the URL in it, then viola! Just remember: D-A-V-E B-U-R-R-I-S. Brings out all the commenters. Plus, Dave is always happy to see an entrepreneur succeed.

    Feelin’ feisty, Smitty? 🙂

    I ain’t no one’s pawn!

Crap…well, now #15 makes no sense, because the spam comment that was the original number 15 asked a question about increasing hits to get on Google’s front page of results. Hmm…probably would have been more humorous if it was still there. 👿
