Friday Roundup

Filed in National by on February 13, 2009

Each Friday morning from now on, I will post links to some key local Delaware stories in the Delaware blogosphere.

UPDATE: Our links to Delaware Watch, Delaware Way, Delaware Libertarian, Lower Slower Delaware, Tommywonk, and Kilroy are all taking you to an Error page on Blogger, stating that this blog cannot be found. This is not our fault, since we are inserting the correct permalinks into this post. It is just more evidence that Blogger sucks, and those still using it need to move over to WordPress or another blogging platform. I suck. It was my fault.

• First, I will be cleaning up the blogroll to the left. Blue State Rising, the official blog of the Delaware Democratic Party, has not updated since October. FAIL. Gazizza is gone too.

• Mike Matthews says our beloved progressive Senator, Karen Peterson, needs to pick her fights better, with the latest being over denying a liquor license to Hooters in Newark. I agree.

• David Anderson fears Matt Denn.

Delaware WatchRed Water Lily, Brian Shields, and Dave Anderson all cover the “Big Guy” becoming a Democrat.

• Tyler Nixon thinks the proposed Delaware Academy for Public Safety and Security is our own Delawarean version of Hitler Youth. Can’t say that I disagree.

• The comedian of the Delaware blogosphere, Kilroy, has some “must see” posts this week. First, Mike Matthews promises to lose 100 pounds to win Christine O’Donnell’s love. Second, the call for an Emergency Blog Summit. He also has some serious problems with Markell’s school funding and Coon’s proposed unpaid holidays.

• Dana Garrett reviews the $52,000,000 in projects that Wilmington wants from the Stimulus Bill.

• I know I said this is a local roundup, but I can leave Kavips and his take on the Republican Gamble out:

The House coalition of Republicans and the Senate coalition(sans 3) of Republicans, are betting that the stimulus plan will fail… Only if it does, and America is ruined in the process, can their actions be vindicated… If it succeeds, their Party flushes out the conservatives.

• MJ at Lower Slower Delaware reports a conversation he overhead at the Super G on Route 1:

“You don’t know what the White House is going to look like in a few years. They gonna have chicken bones and watermelon seeds all over the place. And he’s got his ho’s running around runnin’ everything.”

I have said it before and I will say it again: I can’t wait for these white trash racists to die off. Those who think like the person above, who call little children “ho’s” just because they are black little children, are scum. And if I ever show disdain for the South, or for Sussex County, this is the reason why. Sure, there are plenty of great people in the South and in Sussex County (including my parents, who retired to the latter), but the racists there need to hurry up and get over their prejudice, or die. I don’t care which.

Dominique loves Jack Markell.

• Nancy at the Delaware Way covers the recent uproar over the firing of the School President Ron Russo of the Charter School of Wilmington.

• As always, I defer to Tommywonk on the latest happenings with Bluewater wind, and it’s parent company’s (Babcock & Brown) demise. For the conservative perspective, check out Steve Larrimore.

• Future President Tim McBride, whom we all know from the Jack Pack, reports at Down With Absolutes that Mat Marshall has been accepted at the University of Delaware! Congrats Mat!

Great rundown. The Dominique link is broken thought and I’m very eager to read what a positive Dominique post sounds like.

  2. Yeah,

    Linkees no workee.

  3. Nooneimportant says:

I think the state party only has one person working there right now and I’m fairly certain they’re focused on a certain County Council election next week… give ’em a month and then cut ’em off… (Although, there is no excuse for not updating since Oct.)

    Just saying.

  4. jason330 says:

    DD,

You should call this feature “Around the Horn”

  5. anon says:

It’s not the same now that you’re not allowed to snark and dish about them.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

I fixed all the links now. I wrote this in MS Word first and that program always gives me a reverse comma in html hyperlinks that screws up links. My apologies.

  7. anonone says:

I am glad to see that you at least moved DWA from “The Left” to “The Middle” even though most of their writers are wing nuts.

Kavips is so middle of the road he has a double-line painted on his butt.

  8. Delaware Dem says:

You can still snark and dish about them. Hell, insult them for all I care. They insult us all the time. The only thing I wanted is engagement. And I am fulfilling my part of that bargain.

  9. Von Cracker says:

Use Firefox, DD. It has auto spell check in its form controls.

I’ve been telling DV that for years! 😉

Good round-up, BTW….and yes, I agree – the Klan remnants need to off themselves. The sad part is most feel that way because of their own perceived shortcomings.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, I have Firefox at home.

  11. Delaware Dem says:

Dana Garrett and Steve Newton et al need to stop using Blogger / Blogspot. My links to their stories are being rejected. Can someone tell me how to do it?

  12. anon says:

DL blocks you too if you post more than 2 links. It is also a WordPress thing… it appears to be a global setting, so if it is possible to override it you might want to consider allowing more links in a post.

Don’t try to make a link, just post the URLs using dead links – cut off “http://www.”

    Or post hxxp://somelink.com

  13. Delaware Dem says:

Anon, that is for comments. Here, I am inserting a link to a Delaware Watch and Delaware Libertarian story, both hosted by Blogger, and the page you get at Blogger is an error page saying “The blog you are looking for is not found.”

So if you want to visit those blogs, you will have to view the actual URL in the hyperlink, and type it in the address bar yourself.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

And it looks like Slower Lower Delaware, Kilroy, Tommywonk and the Delaware Way are all Blogger sites as well.

Oh well, this was a nice idea, but seriously everyone in the Delaware blogosphere using Blogger, listen up.

    Blogger sucks.

    Move over to WordPress.

  15. anon says:

This linking issue als0 makes me question the long-term durability of those posts for archival purposes.

Some of those posts contain very important information and quotes from public officials or possible future candidates. In many instances this is the only place some of them have their positions on certain issues in the public record.

This info is now at risk of dropping into the Delaware Memory Hole, like WDEL or DTR interviews, old Dave Burris posts, or old News Journal articles.

I suppose it is only a coincidence that all the juicy info seems to disappear conveniently before the next election cycle.

So blog owners should make sure they have an offline backup… and even if you are not the blog owner, if you value those posts, archive ’em yourself.

  16. Delaware Dem says:

I think the Blogger settings prevents incoming links for some reason. Each blog owner needs to check their settings or spam filter to see what is wrong.

  17. pandora says:

DD, I think I fixed the Delaware Watch link. It seems to work. I’d fix the rest, but I promised my daughter we’d go out to lunch.

I did it html format, which might not be what you wanted…

  18. Delaware Dem says:

I suck. All the links are fixed now.

  19. Steve Newton says:

    DD
FYI I intend to move to wordpress, but real life keeps intervening.

  20. Delaware Dem says:

    Steve,

It wasn’t Blogger’s fault or your fault. There was an html error on my part in the links. WordPress apparently wants you to use their link tool and not to write the code by yourself.

So I take back all my demands that you move to WP. You can if you want, but you don’t have to.

  21. anonone says:

You can if you want, but you don’t have to.

A wonderful example of the graciousness of Delaware Liberals. 🙂

    Thanks, DD!

  22. Refershing! Particularly your comment re remaks heard at Super G. Would that this were a rarity rather than becoming the norm. In any case, this is mild compared to what I’ve been hearing around town this week but, then…I have to consider the source. Kudos to you!
