Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the only woman currently serving on the nation’s highest court, underwent surgery Thursday for removal of a cancerous tumor from her pancreas.

Ginsburg, 75, is being treated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the very tough ones, but Justice Ginsberg survived colon cancer some years back. I hope that she gets well very soon.

They caught it early, which means the survival rate is around 80%….

  2. if she leaves can she demand to Obama that another woman take her place?

  3. Von Cracker says:

    No, silly!

Though I’m sure BO would appoint a Frau….even an Indo-Africana-Sino-Romulan one!

    VC…..

Actually, the survival rate is drastically lower than that. Nearly 38,000 cases a year are diagnosed and overall, fewer than 5 percent survive five years.

  5. Von Cracker says:

Yes, I’ve see this type first-hand. It’s quick and deadly if not caught very early. I was under the impression that it was….

I hope she gets well. I just want to send my thanks to Justice Ginsberg. She has been a voice for justice and freedom and I especially appreciate her oral dissent from the bench on the Lilly Ledbetter SCOTUS decision.

  7. I hope she doesn’t get well so Obama can replace her with a 40-something who can stay in for 30 years! She needs to retire real quick!

Obama may yet need a little dry powder.

Recover quickly oh patriotic and honorable Justice Ginsberg.

Mike! You just want a looker in there. I think you’re hinting for Justice O’Donnell. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Mrs XStryker says:

Mike, there’s a better way to put that, you know. You could say “I hope she gets well but decides to retire anyway”. I get what you mean but she’s still a person.

๐Ÿ˜€ Get well soon, Justice Ginsburg.

Smart money is on Alberto Gonzales so Obama can prove how above the partisan fray he is.

  15. liz says:

Let Ginsberg stay…until Obama can deal effectively with all the elephant dung clean up, he needs the time to pick someone who actually believes in the rule of law, the Constitution, and abhors torture.

She is a wise woman, who is well aware of outcomes. Colon cancer in the past adds to the equasion. It is generally,a painful, rocky recovery, requiring nutritional support, and heavy pain meds. Sitting on the bench may give her some real focus now, but her decision making ability will be put on hold. As of now she’s a prop; and she knows it. She will do the right thing, on her terms. I can respect that.
