A Fools Errand: Seeking Apologies

Filed in Delaware by on February 2, 2009

I have to hand it to Jason.  He has doggedly sought an apology from anyone that he thought that we were all due one from.  He wants an apology for the damage that was done to this country economically, environmentally, socially, politically, diplomatically and legally.  He has gotten no takers.  The best that he has gotten is an amen from Smitty.

That apology isn’t coming, and spending valuable energy searching for it is like searching for the Northwest passage (which, ironically, has been opened due to Republican climate change deniers).  At some point, you have to let it go.  Just move on and accept that they aren’t going to apologize.  Rest easy in the knowledge that you were right, and they were wrong.  That will be your satisfaction.

And honestly, if your candidate screwed up as much as their candidate, would you be able to apologize in the first year after their departure?  It’s hard.  I bet some of them will come around (my money is actually on Dave before the rest of them at DelawarePolitics, save the aforementioned Smitty).  If not, you still have work to do here.

  1. I love it when we are fighting! grrrr

  2. Susan Regis Collins says:

Apology SH*T! I want indictments for their unspeakable actions!!!!!! grrrr………

  3. liz says:

To get a real apology you have to go back to their poster boy Reagun….supply side economics, cuz thats when the collapse started. It took the Cstudent Yale cheerleader to make it crash.

Personally I don’t think it can be fixed, all they are doing now is loading up the debt on our children and grandchildren. You cant spend like drunken sailors and have tax cuts. They have enriched the most wealthy, and destroyed the middle class. We are at the beginning stages of 1929, in 2009.

If the democrats continue to permit the republicans “cut” taxes as part of any deal, the democrats will loose, our economy will only worsen. Give the republicans the finger, do what is necessary to make the big changes to turn it around…or in 4 years we will be seeking yet another change maker. If citizens don’t put pressure on the house dems to stop filling the stimulus package with their pet projects (that do not stimulate the economy) we are going nowhere fast. We have one shot at this thing ~~~if they dont get it right, Obama will be blamed and welcome to Sarah Palin another c student in 2012.

  4. nemski says:

If not an apology, the Radical Right should shut the fuck up.

  5. jason330 says:

Thanks for that perspective. (You are so grown-up and full sized adult compared to me.)

I think I do feel liberated to pursue more realistic goals when you put it that way.

As for me not being able to apologize in the first year – you have a point, but let’s face it – all Democrats do is save this country from Republicans. It it s full time job.

  6. Rebecca says:

Amen to that Jason! Saving the country I mean.

  7. Dominique says:

“all Democrats do is save this country from Republicans”

yeah, they’ve been doing a bang-up job of it since 2006. things have gotten sooo much better over the past two years! the war is over, bush was impeached and held accountable for his ‘war crimes’ the economy has turned around and there are jobs, jobs everywhere! woo hoo!

sheesh, do you have any standards for democrats or is it just republicans that you expect to deliver results?

  8. jason330 says:

    Dominique,

I meant over the arc of history. Over the past 8 years, yes Dems have sucked at performing their traditional job of keeping American hating Republicans in line. Granted.

  9. cassandra_m says:

I think that the ones who wanted to apologize already voted for Obama or are certainly contributing enough positive information to boost Obama’s positives over the past weeks. All you’ll get from the rest is some form of exactly what they’ve been telling us for the past 8 years. At some point you have to work with those who clearly want to work with you and let the rest marginalize themselves. The good news is that the people who do clearly want to work with you is currently enough of a majority that there should be a fair number of productive, forward-looking challenges to stake a claim to and try to accomplish.

  10. jason330 says:

I’d like an apology from lazy Democrats like Carper too, but that is not as pressing to me as getting an apology from the actual malefactors.

  11. G Rex says:

If only Jason would admit that the lowering of underwriting standards at Fannie and Freddie (while Barney Franks was braying “nothing to see here” a la officer Barbrady and Franklin Raines was getting bonuses for quantity over quantity of loans underwritten) led to the collapse of the housing market, we have nothing to discuss. Also, still waiting for one specific Bush financial market deregulation…

Jason: those aren’t documented facts, they’re talking points! Even if they’re documented facts, they’re still talking points because I refuse to believe them!

  12. jason330 says:

    WTF?

Are you trying to apologize? Just spit it out.

  13. Miscreant says:

I’ve been thinking about developing a drinking game based on the number of times Jason and his adulators use the phrase “the past 8 years”. Can your liver handle it?

    Sorry, Jason.

    Really.

  14. jason330 says:

    I feel better.

  15. caped crusader says:

I for one won’t be satisfied until I get an apology from Adam Smith, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Milton Friedman.

Thanks, LG, for trying to salvage the credibility of your blog.

  16. anonone says:

    Duminique:

they’ve been doing a bang-up job of it since 2006

Filibuster – even you can look it up.

How’s your brilliant thought that Obama, Bush, and McCain differ in name only working out?

    Signed,

    A viper

  17. 8years says:

    JA330
    You mean like the
‘democratic’ president elected in 1860 that fought a war and freed the slaves?
    And is NOW Obama’s idol?

In denial about Democrat Barney Frank?

  18. nemski says:

Yes G Rex, you are so wise. Fannie and Freddie were the cause for the entire economic meltdown.

    Please refer to Comment #4.

  19. jason330 says:

    8years,

I’ll mark you down as “not ready to apologize.”

  20. Caped crusader says:

    Don’t forget Herbert Hoover!

  21. h. says:

Watch out Rex, any negativity expressed in the direction of Fannie & Freddie will earn you the title of racist.

  22. Miscreant says:

“Racist” is so pre-election. Now, he either hates America, or is unpatriotic.

  23. cassandra m says:

Clinging to the thoroughly debunked Fannie and Freddie narrative doesn’t make you racist — it does give you entitlements to a place on the front row of the Wingnut Stupid Brigade.

    And see comment #4.

  24. Joanne Christian says:

Oh this is a fun one.
Nemski @ #4 –No apology, but agree w/ the second sentiment.
    Cassandra @ #9-brilliant as usual-and spot on
to unload my repressed, unexpressed articulation of the request/demand/imperative/ultimatum of Jason. Heck no I won’t apologize! (insert obscenities where appropriate). I did my civic duty and obligation to vote. That may have meant, bad weather, cutting a vacation short, absentee filing, setting an alarm because of shift work, driving a distance back to my home poll, taking personal time off work, taking personal time from me, getting a sitter, waiting in line, and dealing with the OUTCOME of a well intentioned executed responsibility. You want an apology? Get it from those who were too disinterested, could care less, or claimed too busy, to do what was needed for this country.
Those resurrected, now coupled with your repentant and regetful voter of past have delivered an apology en masse. Don’t discount past non-voter/voter apathy, as a potentiate of past problems. Failure to act is not a blameless offense. Apologizing for participating in my right, responsibility and exercise of this nation ain’t gonna happen. The next election did. The vote remains secret, but you got your apology. Work and enjoy the present. ( And I mean that from a “tense” and “gift” usage of term!)

  25. David says:

It is President Obama and the left that needs to apologize for attempting to undermine the military in a time of war with the open homosexuality issue. They need to apologize for diverting money from economic recovery to pet projects which don’t target the sectors which need help. They need to apologize for endangering our national security by gutting the CIA’s ability to interrogate.

They need to apologize for their tax cheating ways. They need to apologize for appointing a terrorist appointing AG.

Then again LG is right. It is better just to know that you are right than waste energy on apologies that you won’t get.

  26. jason330 says:

FUCK OFF YOU STUPID FUCKING LOSER!

  27. RSmitty says:

    Go punch the clown, J.

  28. jason330 says:

He made me say it. The FUCKING STUPID ASSWIPE GOATFUCKER!

…and I had been so good.

  29. cassandra m says:

    Go punch the clown, J.

I thought that’s what he was doing….in a virtual sense, of course.

  30. RSmitty says:

    Go punch the clown, J.

    I thought that’s what he was doing…
    😯
    Eyes…brain…burrrrnnnnsss……

  31. Joanne Christian says:

Jason, I applaud your restraint of recent. And I agree the instigative nature of post #25 was…..

but the clown thing will not come up for me under the post…so I thought it was a joke, like abstinence is nothing, and there is no clown. Could someone please put in a link, so I can access that way? Because I have no screen even showing. Otherwise another insightful moment wasted, when only lower order thinking skills needed. Cassandra’s messing with me!

  32. jason330 says:

    I was kidding in turn.
