Super Bowl Observations

Filed in National by on February 1, 2009

The Eagles would have been demolished by Pittsburgh. Philly dodged a bullet.

Bruce rocks! Best half-time show ever.

It must be nice to have a quarterback who can play for 4 whole quarters.

The Budwieser ads were stupid.

The Start Trek movie looks awesome.

Heck of a catch.

Coaches challenges are a horrible addition to the game – but the officials review in the last 2 minutes are worse. Let them play the game.

Since Warner turned this into a test of God’s existence, I guess I don’t have to go Church next Sunday.

I was rooting for the underdog Cardinals and enjoyed the game greatly except for the blatant attempts by the NFL to throw the game to Pittsburgh. Then Jesus started helping out Warner and the Cardinals and it looked like Jesus was more powerful than the NFL.

And then . . . something miracoulsly occurred when Holmes caught the ball in the end zone to win the game and it wasn’t until the trophy presentation listening to Mr. Rooney when we all found out who was really responsible for the Steelers win . . . President Obama.

  2. jason330 says:

I missed the trophy presentation, but I’m glad Obama used his powers to swing it to Pittsburgh.

  3. nemski says:

BTW, the NFL should have the Super Bowl on Saturday nights.

  4. jason330 says:

Or make the Monday after a holiday.

  5. jason330 says:

    Also,

Was the “he took his helmet off” flag w/ 5 seconds left really necessary?

  6. Mark H says:

Still of the opinion that that was a lousy call on the roughing the passer against Arizona. But a good game anyhow

  7. So Obama is the new “Thank you jesus, my lord and savior for winning this game for us”?

    eesh.

Heard Bruce on the radio. Sounded like s#!t. Youngsters thought the show was horrible. Old people liked the show because old people like Bruce. He could talk through a phone book (you know, because he really doesn’t sing) and Bruce fans would drool.

The game was entertaining enough. The halftime shows, commercials, and all the other filler annoys the heck out of me. it was good to have a good, entertaining game.

  8. JohnnyX says:

I thought the game itself was thoroughly entertaining. And as an Eagles fan I’ll admit that yeah, they probably would have lost. I think it probably would’ve been a close game but they likely would have needed a comeback drive in the end and come up short in typical Philly / McNabb style.

Regarding halftime, etc.: A couple of the commercials amused me, most of them were just kind of “meh.”

Springsteen was OK but didn’t really blow me away. I don’t know why the NFL can find currently popular people to do the National Anthem but when it comes to the half-time show they have recently been picking artists who were in their prime decades ago. I suppose it’s because the likelihood of Springsteen exposing the boob of one of his backup singers is slim to none…

  9. Unstable Isotope says:

I thought the game was exciting! I guess Jesus doesn’t favor Warner anymore – perhaps he was the one who took the picture of Phelps taking a bong hit. Commercials ranged from meh to weird. I missed the halftime show – I turned to the Puppy Bowl instead.

  10. Unstable Isotope says:

Funny diary on Daily Kos about this subject:
Kurt Warner: “God Is To Blame For This Loss”

Bruce might not have had a wardrobe malfunction, but he did slide his crotch right into the camera.

  11. Mark H says:

Just recently watched a Springsteen concert from about a year ago in Spain. IT was great! I think the time allotted for the halftime show isn’t enough for an artist like Bruce to really shine

  12. jason330 says:

    1) Everyone who DOES NOT think Bruce is the teh awesome is a Republican operative taking marching orders fromthe RNC.

    2) Everyone who ever hated on T. Owens can now suck it becuase sad sack McNabb is doing exactly the same thing and McNabb is worse because he;
…a) Doesn’t know it is in the rules that you can tie. and,
…b) Doesn’t know that it is int he rules that you are allowed to come back and win a game within the last 2 mins.

  13. I’m surprised you guys aren’t upset that he’s out there promoting his “Ran out of money” tour.

ZOMG! Bruce has a new album coming out! Must run and get it! Not every artist has a 4 note vocal range, and sounds raspy in his old age. I must go get it now!

  14. the bruce show was sort of lame, sorry old timer. It was gay when him and the guy from the soprano’s were talking to each other, it was gay when the ref threw the flag

the old hags playing guitar in 4 inch heels were terrible

the only bright spot to bruce was seeing his crotch nail the camera and the chick with big breasts in the red shirt that they showed I think 3 times.

  15. jason330 says:

The reverse barometer on all culture questions has spoken.

    Take that Shields!

  16. Bill Dunn says:

With all the conversation that goes on with the “big” game and its commercials and half time show, its hard to catch everything (especially when you really want to watch the sport itself).
Nonetheless, Great Game, good commercials and Bruce ROCKS! (Not bad for someone just short of SIXTY.)

  17. Mark H says:

Brian, I’ve never been fond of Bruce as a singer. The E street band though is pretty good. I prefer Bruce as a writer than as a singer. And DV, Bruce and Stevie always do that on songs that Stevie sings on. Bruce and Clarence and Patti do that also.

  18. Miscreant says:

The same Springsteen who recently entered into an exclusive deal with WalMart, then apologized to his fans for it?

  19. Mark H says:

Yeah, he really screwed the pooch on that one 🙂

  20. G Rex says:

“…and the chick with big breasts in the red shirt that they showed I think 3 times.”

That would be Kurt Warner’s wife, so God is responsible for those breasts.

Bruce can’t sing any more, they should have made him lip sync like Jennifer Hudson did with the Anthem.

Santonio Holmes (from THE Ohio State University) is the shit! Too bad he didn’t stay for his senior year, we probably would have beat the Gators in 2006.

  21. Von Cracker says:

At least Warner’s wife got rid of that John Terry butch, F150 driving doo…..

    She doesn’t look 50 anymore!

  22. Von Cracker says:

I thought El Jefe’ sounded pretty decent….

….which reminds me of a joke:

What do you call it when you have 20,000 white people and a black guy?

    A Springsteen concert!

His MSG show is on Palladium HD channel — pretty good show…

  23. Mark H says:

I think that’s the one I watched the other night but I’m not sure. And does Bruce add another after Clarence kicks off?
