Will Mike Castle Put On The GOP’s Ghost Shirt?

Will Mike Castle toe the GOP’s party line again? Who knows, but one thing is sure – You have a call to make…

President Obama worked through the weekend to convince skeptics in Congress to quickly pass his economic recovery plan this week.

Obama’s stimulus would invest in green jobs, health care, and relief for struggling states. But conservatives are already fighting against Obama—they’re working furiously to block his proposed investments.1

CNN reports conservatives are clamoring for “far more business tax cuts, such as reducing the corporate income tax rate.”2 If they win this fight, it will be at the expense of the investments our country urgently needs.

Your representative in Congress, Michael Castle, is a key vote on President Obama’s economic plan—and the vote is Wednesday. Can you call and ask him to vote for Obama’s critical investments in green jobs, health care, and relief for struggling states—and not more tax cuts for corporations and the rich?

Are You A Man?

Check for yourself by measuring yourself against this Popular Mechanics list of 100 skills every man should know.

Of course they left out “ability to man-up and apologize when you are proven utterly and disastrously wrong.” So, by that measure – our wingnut readers are mostly frail little wussy-girls even if they can solder a wire or do a perfect push up.

Republicanism, Alabama Style

Here is a name from the not-so-recent past, Judge Roy Moore and he is thinking about running for governor of Alabama, reports countrycat in Left in Alabama.

Moore?  You might remember him as the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and the battle over the Ten Commandments Memorial in the Alabama state courthouse. There were press reports and  a court case which ended up with a U.S. federal judge telling Moore to remove the religious memorial (pdf). He refused to do so and was subsequently removed from the bench by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary. The memorial was removed as well.

Moore ran for governonr in Alabama in 2006 and lost in the primary to the incumbent, Gov. Bill Riley. Besides Moore being the current chairman of the Foundation for Moral Law, he is also a poet and not a very good one at that.

In the poem The Faded Black Book an old weary man is walking down a street until two hooligans beat him down and robbed him but only to find a faded black book.

“That little black book,” the old man said,
“It may be faded and old.
But the things you will find written within,
Are worth more than silver and gold.”

The thugs berate the old man and his “book”, only for the old man to warn his attackers of a band of thieves that lie await ahead. The old man offers to show his two attackers a different way.

“Well, old man,” said one of the youths,
“I’ve never really thought of things so.
And if you don’t mind we will go your way,
Perhaps more of this book we should know.”

Arrghh! Is this what the Republican Party has to offer in response to overwhelming defeat in November, bad poetry and a religious zealot whose claim to fame is defying the US Constitution.

Wouldn’t the Alabama Republican Party be better off with this guy who was recently arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated because he was rushing across town to get a blow job?

The Republican Plan

Editor’s Note: I’m sorry about all the profanity lately, but it is nearly impossible to talk about what Republicans have done to the country without using some form of the terms, “Fucked,” “Screwed” or “Ass Raped.”

Having said that; it appears that “The Republican Plan” is to fuck the country for another two years by being obstructionist and hope that the country blames the ass-raping on Democrats when the mid-term elections roll around.

“(Senate) appointments are an anachronism that must end.”

Russ Feingold To Introduce Constitutional Amendment To End US Senate Appointments

Good:

“The controversies surrounding some of the recent gubernatorial appointments to vacant Senate seats make it painfully clear that such appointments are an anachronism that must end.  In 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution gave the citizens of this country the power to finally elect their senators.  They should have the same power in the case of unexpected mid term vacancies, so that the Senate is as responsive as possible to the will of the people.  I plan to introduce a constitutional amendment this week to require special elections when a Senate seat is vacant, as the Constitution mandates for the House, and as my own state of Wisconsin already requires by statute.  As the Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee, I will hold a hearing on this important topic soon.”

Lost Woman’s Dark Grey Jacket

Mrs. nemski’s dark grey winter jacket with a dragonfly pin on the label was accidentally taken by someone else at the Delaware Liberal Inaugural Ball. Please contact nemski if you come across it. Much thanks.

Lisa Diller For County Council

Last Thursday I attended the meeting to determine the candidate that would replace Stephanie McClellan in the Council District 5.  Two of the people considering a run for council decided to drop from the race, clearing the way for Lisa Diller.  I had a few minutes to speak to her and she confirmed my impression that she is a smart and principled, qualities that are sorely lacking on New Castle County Council.  The special election to replace McClellan is scheduled for February 19th.

It is also worth noting that Lisa is married to our fellow blogger, John Tobin.  No word yet on if the Republicans expect to put a candidate forth.

It is going to be a heck of a year!

Thanks for this economy Bush!  Thanks conservatives! If wrecking the economy with stupidity and greed was an Olympic sport, you guys would be the Nikolai Andrianov, Larissa Latynina, and Micheal Phelps of it.

The controller says California is down to Plan D on its checklist of paying bills. Its cash reserves are piddling; the special funds it borrows from are tapped out, and no one in the private sector is going to lend it any cash at a reasonable interest rate.

That leaves what in state government circles are called “payment deferrals” and what in real life is called “stiffing your creditors.”  – via eschaton

Side Note: In my off line life, California is my biggest customer.
