That’s how I’d describe Joe Biden’s SNL persona.

If you could mask the time markers here, you’d swear you were listening to CNN this week. It is the same GOP script, with many of the same hacks, saying exactly the same things — and they were spectacularly wrong then. And the new hacks haven’t found anything new to say, either. But here’s the thing — if all of these arguments were wrong 16 years ago, and all of their derivative arguments in support of all of their hackery actually being implemented over the last 8 years were wrong, can I ask WHY the press just keeps letting them wind up and say the same stuff over and over? Is there not a point where they’ll press them for something more than this 16 year old script?

UPDATED: No Heart Chump Also a No Class Chump
I just heard on WIP that Donovan McNabb blamed the Arizona loss on the defense in an interview.
I’m looking for a link right now
It wasn’t a recent interview. It was from his rambling post NFC championship game interview and it is being discussed now because McNabb wants another Ga-zillion dollar contract extension.
Not enough was made of McNabb’s rambling comment about how frustrated he was watching on the sideline while Kurt Warner methodically drove the Cardinals down the field for the winning score. McNabb said the primary goal of every defense is to keep his offense off the field, and he just felt so helpless watching the season go down the drain.
When I played that sound bite for Jeremiah Trotter on my WIP radio show, the former linebacker bristled.
“Well, he kind of threw the defense under the bus with that statement,” Trotter said. “Donovan had his opportunities, too.”
President Obama’s Weekly Video Address
Text below the fold.
Deep Legislative Strategy Thought
Did Obama allow Republicans to throw him in the briar patch on this economic recovery bill?
On the front page of today’s NJ Gannett is running an AP “analysis” column by Andrew Taylor which argues for MORE direct stimulus for “shovel ready” projects.
If the conference version of the bill now contains projects and less tax cuts I’ll have to consider the fact that President Obama is not 10,000 smarter than me, but 100,000 times smarter than me.
What a shocking, surprise
All I can do is shrug my shoulders and say whatever. At this point, I truly don’t understand what is so freaking hard about paying your taxes and reporting income when you are a multi-millionaire/former Senator. It disgusts me to a level beyond my unemployed intellect.
First off the fact that he can just cut a check for this amount says something. 2nd, the fact that he has to do this at all to me, shows his ability to be an honest, ethical and fair decision maker.
[Tom Daschle chosen by] Obama to lead his health reform efforts, recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest, according to a Senate document obtained by The Associated Press.
Here is where it gets good:
Most of the additional taxes resulted from unreported income from the use of a car service provided him by a close friend and business associate, Leo Hindery Jr. The unreported income for that service totaled more than $250,000 over three years.
Daschle’s business relationship with InterMedia Partners of Englewood, Colo. Daschle is a limited partner and chairman of its executive advisory board. Daschle is also an independent consultant to InterMedia Advisors LLP of New York City.
Hindery founded InterMedia Partners, a private equity firm, in 1988. Daschle was paid $1 million annually for his services, the committee said. Daschle’s 2007 tax return did not include one of his monthly payments of $88,333.
Private Equity firm? Paying him $1mil a year? Jesus, he is a limited partner and a consultant for essentially the same company? Double dipping. Whatever man, just whatever. There is no way this was an accident. The guy isn’t doing his taxes on Turbo Tax purchased from Costco. He has account(S) plural, and he knew, they knew, this was supposed to be taxed.
Greed and Dishonesty, I can’t think of two better traits needed to head up health reform.
FU and the car that drove you here.
While I am at it, Who is Leo Hindrey Jr? Let’s do a looksie shall we
He was the Sr. Economic Policy advisor for John Edwards
He was the CEO of the YES Network (Yankees Network)
Was the CEO of ATT Broadband and (A former CEO of Global Crossing, Hindery made $250 million in stock options for less than 1 year’s work with the company which eventually went bankrupt. Hindery is a political activist having worked
Almost bought the Cubs
Worked for Obama (can’t find how much he raised/donated)
in short this visual from muckety.com illustrates it perfectly:

Day 3 Of Castle’s Betrayal of Delaware
This morning begins the third day of Mike Castle’s betrayal of the people of Delaware. Oh yeah, still no apology.
Memorial Tribute for Andrew Wyeth This Weekend
The Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford is hosting a memorial tribute to Wyeth this weekend, showing for the his last painting. MOMA has lent “Christina’s World” especially for the tribute. It doesn’t seem to be a formal service, but a chance for people to visit the works again (and get a chance to see Christina’s World!).
WHYY had a really nice story about Wyeth and Chadds Ford today. They also have pictures of the area that they took during the interview.
Last, Robin Young from WBUR’s Here and Now Program broadcast this remembrance of Wyeth today — featuring abit of an interview Ms. Young tried to get with Wyeth and conversation with Thomas Hoving.

Charles Davis, the National Freedom of Information Coalition Executive Director, will take an in-depth look at why freedom of the press, guaranteed by the First Amendment, and the unrestricted free flow of information — both cornerstones of democracy — are under attack. Freedom of Information laws have been weakened, reporters are being subpoenaed to reveal confidential sources and the business of the federal government is increasingly shrouded in secrecy.

UPDATED: The New Face of the GOP
He won.
By my count, former Maryland Lt. Governor Steele needs five more votes, and Michigan GOP chair Saul Anuzis (considered to be a moderate) just dropped out, with 20 votes on the last ballot. Anuzis didn’t endorse, but I’m willing to bet Steele will pick up at least 5 votes out of Anuzis’ 20.
Another one for the history books.
On Bipartisanship
Ben Smith at Politico captures the state of play as well as anyone at this stage:
… “bipartisanship” is as much a brand as any conceivable Washington reality. These House Republicans, as is traditional when a caucus shrinks, are more conservative, and in safer seats, than their predecessors. The notion that they’d wind up anything other than extremely rare allies of the Democratic President was always unlikely. Obama doesn’t need their votes. But his visible, cable-television-grabbing bipartisan gestures are aimed at cementing his hold on that brand, and ensuring when Republicans and Democrats go their separate ways, Republicans are seen as the partisan ones.
It’s not a particularly novel tactic, but it places the House Republicans in an uncomfortable spot. As Chris Cillizza wrote in a very smart piece today, their party is in danger of being defined as pure, intransigent, Rush-Limbaugh-style opposition, and Obama’s visit to the Hill may give their image a further shove down that road.
I’ve read of news reports (ABC and NBC) discussing Obama’s visits in just these terms — that he was working at outreach and the Rs wouldn’t budge. It doesn’t hurt Obama that there are those on the left howling about compromising with Rs. Obama was seen working at some compromise (and 33% of the package being tax cuts is compromise) and was seen being rebuffed.
Obama will be doing more of this, not less and you can see that the optics are as important as the substance. The minority caucus can afford all of their purity stands — with some notable exceptions (Snowe, Collins, Spector). And these exceptions are folks known to be able to garner Independent AND Democratic votes. Conservative purity only speaks to the conservative base — which isn’t enough to win majorities any more.
