Limbaugh Hates America…Or Does He?

Filed in National by on January 21, 2009

RUSH LIMBAUGH: I disagree fervently with the people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, “Well I hope he succeeds. We’ve got to give him a chance.” So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, okay I’ll send you a response but I don’t need 400 words. I need four. I hope he fails.

I hated Bush from the outset, but being an American first and a Democrat second, I never rooted for his failure. On it’s face, this Limbaugh stance is patently unAmerican.

However, this is tricky to parse. Recall that Limbaugh considers Bush a success. So is he really saying that he wants Obama to “fail” as we normally define the word fail, or does he want Obama to have a kind of limbaugh-esque failure by which he means the opposite of Bush’s success?

This fool makes $50 million a year to lie to people. This fool’s specialty is to speak to the most rabidly and permanently resentful of the 29 percenters.

This fool has been wrong on it all — down the line. As have his listeners.

It doesn’t matter that you never rooted for Bush to fail. Rush and his listeners will never know the difference between rooting for failure and documenting them. All they know are their resentments.

    Same as it ever was.

  2. Susan Regis Collins says:

People still listen to this joker? It’s sooooo passe in 2009.

  3. Nurse Thomas says:

Old, lame, boring, blah, blah, blah. Same old crap, still fat and miserable. The world is changing and continues to do so. It seems as though Mr. Limbaugh did not get the memo. Could someone please send him a copy? Seriously continuing to push separation of America is simply unamerican. I will contribute to send Mr. Limbaugh to the country of his choice if this one is not working for him.

  4. Truth Teller says:

Look folks old Rush is nothing but a JUNKIE more than likely he’s still high. So are a lot of his listeners for you have to be to listen to his crap day after day and believe it.

  5. Sharon says:

If you’d bothered either listening to his remarks or reading the quote, you would understand that wanting Obama to fail means not wanting him to implement a bunch of policies you think are harmful to the country. And how dare any of you argue that “pushing for separation of America is unamerican” after eight years of claiming dissent was most patriotic.

  6. Pragmatist says:

Rush is one of the “haves and have mores” and he isn’t going to change his tune. He’s part of Bush’s base that lives in fear that we’re going to take away their money and give it to “those people”. This will not go away and Rush will continue to have an audience for his propaganda.

  7. Unstable Isotope says:

Does anyone care what he thinks anymore?

  8. jason330 says:

    Sharon,

You are an idiot. I put the whole quote up and it speaks for itself.

  9. RSmitty says:

This bloviated idiot and pomade-boy Shamnity are why wingnuts make me puke. There is no constructive debate option with them. Eff that. I want success for this country, this state, no matter who holds the office.

  10. jason330 says:

    Smitty,

Your GOP brothers are now openly hoping for a terrorist attack against the United States fo that their faith in Bush and “concerns” about Obama will be validated.

    I wish I was kidding.

  11. pandora says:

Smitty, it might be time for you to considered changing your party affiliation. What you long for doesn’t exist. The article Jason links breaks my heart.

It appears that the battle for the GOP has been waged and your side has lost – there simply aren’t enough of your kind left.

  12. RSmitty says:

J – Well, when you have someone like Marc Thiessen writing the Op-ed piece, what do you expect? Yes, they are part of the group (grrr…), but I disavowed their control-by-fear policies long ago. Do I have concern that something could happen? Yes. Do I let it control my life with “What If’s?” Hell no, and neither should it for anyone else. Eff Marc Thiessen!

  13. RSmitty says:

Pandora – uh oh. I heard there might be a push for my allegiance soon. Is this the sun rising, breaking the horizon? 😛

Going off to a meeting….see ya’ll on the next break!

  14. Unstable Isotope says:

    Smitty,

I think party allegiance is a good question. I’m sad that the Republican party has mostly removed moderate and liberal Republicans. What is even more troubling is the anti-intellectual bent of the party. I find it very troubling that the GOP continues to support and nurture people like Limbaugh and Thiessen. As long as Republicans continue to support people like this I can not support them, even if I like their candidate. I guess that makes me a partisan, oh well. It’s not like I support everything Democrats do – they are just as corruptible and many have made very big mistakes (like supporting Bush’s Iraq Debacle), however Democrats are “the big tent” and supports diversity of ideas in the party. At what point is the Republican party no longer worth saving?

  15. anonone says:

At what point is the Republican party no longer worth saving?

At this point – the last Gallup poll before he left office showed 75% of repubs still supported Bush/Cheney.

Keep throwing them anvils (except Rsmitty). 🙂

  16. pandora says:

The truth is, by republican standards, Smitty is not the exception because his party doesn’t consider him a republican. Most, dare I say, consider him a traitor to their agenda and the true problem with their party.

Wow! This is turning into a Smitty thread… and my guess is that he couldn’t be happier! 😉

  17. RSmitty says:

Wow! This is turning into a Smitty thread… and my guess is that he couldn’t be happier!

    Oh…my head hurts…ego swelling…won’t…stop.
ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME

    Ahhh….that felt good.

  18. Von Cracker says:

Rush “That Script” Limbaugh has no relevance. But fuck him anyway.

  19. RSmitty says:

OK, seriously, I am very, very much against social conservatism and the brand that infected the GOP years ago. I am however, more moderate, but (don’t get hung up on the word) conservative in a sense that you need to think it out, consider consequences, etc. when setting policy (as opposed to conservative where you need to purify all to satisfy the desires). I guess you can call that cautious, whereas the real definition of conservative has forever been lost. Fiscally, I am not a big tax guy, but accept the needs in a society where services have become essential. I’d rather cut our way out of a deficit instead of tax it, but again, each situation needs evaluation, not a rubber stamp approach.

I could go on, but that’s high level enough.

    I’m politically lost, aren’t I?

  20. pandora says:

You are truly a man without a party. Good thing we’re having one Saturday night!

  21. adlib says:

Rush Limbag caters to the most uninformed, uneducated non critical thinkers in the country. Cant wait for the Fairness Doctrine brought back to get these america haters off the airwaves or at least force them to have another with a different political philosphy to balance out the lies, distortions, hate speech these fools spew everyday. Rush is a multi millionaire, a real voice for the working man.

  22. Sharon says:

God, Jason, you are suck a freaking liar. Here is what Limbaugh said:

“My hope, and please understand me when I say this. I disagree fervently with the people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, “Well, I hope he succeeds. We’ve got to give him a chance.” Why? They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.

If I wanted Obama to succeed, I’d be happy the Republicans have laid down. And I would be encouraging Republicans to lay down and support him. Look, what he’s talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things. I don’t want this to work. So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.” (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here’s the point. Everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it. ”

It was part of a monologue. You know what that is,r ight? It’s more than 2 sentences. But no, if you actually read what he said or listened to him, you wouldn’t be able to make stupid posts like this.

  23. Sharon says:

That should be “such a freaking liar,” but “suck” really works well, too.

  24. anonone says:

LIMBAUGH: We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president.

Sweet, Sharon. Defend your racist radio friend.

  25. cassandra_m says:

Just because Rush says a bunch of words, Sharon, doesn’t mean that he has increased any odds of stumbling across the truth. Your junkie hero has certainly misrepresented Obama’s agenda here in order to specifically wish for its failure.

And he counts on audiences full of people like you to never catch that.

  26. Collieman says:

Hey everybody, There’s an idiot like this “Sharon in every blog you’ll find. She’ll dry up and go away soon. She probably has pictures of her “hunk” Hannity on her wall too. Go Obama!! Lets all get behind him to help get this country moving again.

  27. Lee Ann, Public Servant says:

I sure feel better now that Sharon (Ann Coulter wannabe) has provided the entire context. I misjudged him, because I haven’t listened to him in years. He is more of a raving, bloated, hate-filled lunatic than I remember.

  28. Joanne Christian says:

Gang, he’s the Jerry Springer of the party that you’re watching. Why help his ratings?
You wouldn’t want me to point at “The Thurman Adams Show” as typical.

  29. cassandra_m says:

You wouldn’t want me to point at “The Thurman Adams Show” as typical.

    No.

But none of us are going to defend Adams, much less run around to unfriendly blogs to defend him either.
