One Step Closer To Our Fully Armed Utopia

Packing concealed heat

Don’t be surprised the next time you see former Republican state chairman Terry Strine if he’s packing heat. Strine recently applied to Superior Court for a concealed weapons permit.

Since he’s no longer battling Mike Protack, I have to think he’s simply taking precautions against those mobile home residents at the beach who are seeking a form of state rental control. The Strine family business owns a bunch of the mobile home parks.

Everytime a concealed carry permit is issued baby Jesus smiles.

  1. Mike Protack says:

A concealed carry permit is a constitutional right and Mr. Strine should have the right to carry if he desires to.

If you are against guns, then do not but buy one. Please do not tell anyone else they can’t.

  2. Dorian Gray says:

Mike – Your positions are so amateurish. Try thinking a bit it’s fun.

The rights prescribed in the constitution are just ideas. America is built on just ideas (like de Tocqueville said). So just because it’s in the constitution doesn’t mean one may not say that someone purchasing a gun is wrong or immoral or whatever. This is how slavery was abolished and civil rights amendments were passed. Of course it is legal to purchase a gun, that doesn’t mean someone “ought” to. Moreover, Jason is perfectly entitled to say so.

  3. jason330 says:

Anyway Mike, for your information I am a second amendment purist. Everyone should be able to own as many hand made guns as they want. Just like the founding fathers planned it.

You can have my Arquebus when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

  4. Bob McWilliams says:

Maybe he can carry a para-military weapon like an automatic rifle or Uzi or some such. The NRA claims we should be allowed to carry that crap too………

  5. RSmitty says:

The rights prescribed in the constitution are just ideas.
    Slippery slope!

    Habeas Corpus.

I do see your point, tho, DG. In past arguments, I have quickly pointed out that our Constitution is filled with “weasel” words, allowing far, way far too many interpretations to be conceptually correct, even when those conclusions are contradictions of each other.

  6. Joanne Christian says:

Well yes, Baby Jesus should smile. Because he’s following the rules, and doing so appropriately. Baby Jesus would frown if he stole one, or acquired one in an illegal, or unconsciencable (sp?) transaction. Yea for Mr. Strine!

  7. Newsflash! I am thinking of buying a tazer to protect myself. One of those cool ones with flying fishhooks so you can tazer someone up to 10 feet away.

I have a dangerous job, robberies are on the rise, and the economy is bad…

..and it would be a gun if the company who I work for allowed guns. Considering the option between my job or my life, I will gladly choose my life. Money, cars, and pizza are replaceable, but if my life is threatened, someone’s going to be having seizures on the sidewalk before I leave a bloody trail to someone’s front door.

  8. Rebecca says:

Anyone who conducts their life in such a manner that they feel they need a handgun for protection . . . well draw your own conclusions.

  9. Joanne Christian says:

Ah Rebecca, I was the itinerant nurse to the crack houses, and homeless “hangouts” in Baltimore, sent because we knew we had “lost” patients there (mostly gunshot victims, wanting to stay away from any legal point of eye), needing dressing changes etc.. You bet, my escort packed.

  10. You can’t tell me that if you lived in a nice law abiding neighborhood that changed into a rough one as the economy changed from bad to worse that you wouldn’t want to protect your home, your family, your property?

Instead you would take a hit on the bad property value by selling your home and move?

I wonder why tazer batons can’t be sold in Delaware… they look badass.

  11. Miscreant says:

Brian – For something less dramatic, and just as effective, consider pepper spray. Not the junk you can buy on a key chain at a convenience or hardware store, but police grade spray such as Mace or Def-Tec brands, containing a minimum of 10% oleoresin capsicum.

The stream type is more accurate, but the aerosol spray works much faster. Don’t even consider the foam, you’ll get your ass kicked before it takes effect. Avoid the kind that is mixed with the chemical Mace, as it requires decontamination. My preference is a powerful aerosol, but you have to be aware of wind direction. It works on dogs too, and it’s *organic*.

    Good luck, and enjoy.

  12. ananie says:

Like Jesus would own a gun or vote republican. Too funny.

  13. Miscreant says:

You don’t need firepower when you have magic.

  14. Bah, pepper spray. That’s what girls carry. Should I put it on a chain next to my rape whistle?

(Seriously, I’ll keep it in mind, no major decisions made yet.)

  15. Miscreant says:

OK, but I know from personal experience, pepper can be just as effective.

If you must go with a tazer, I recommend the TASER® C2. In addition to being a taser, it can also be used as a contact stun gun, and it comes in designer colors (to match or compliment your rape whistle). It requires a successful background check, and will set you back about $300. Or, if you can swing it, get the kind that allows you to fire the assailant up numerous times, or until the battery is dead.
    Pure entertainment.

  16. Joanne Christian says:

Wouldn’t bringing a dog w/ you be simpler?

  17. Miscreant says:

A dog on a pizza delivery? Good luck with that.

  18. I was looking at the C2… and now my wife looked over my shoulder, saw the tazer, and demanded that I not get one.

“If you need that then you need a new job.”

Can’t argue with that logic, ‘specially since she doesn’t realize the coolness of shocking someone, and being the talk of the Domino’s rumor mill, and the badass image that comes with the story of getting one up on a robber.

Looks like I’ll have to go with pepper spray.

  19. jason330 says:

Since nobody elese is pointing it out, I guess I will.

Jason’s stand on gun controll is the only position that is moraly and constitutionally unasailable.

All other gun controll arguments are crap.

  20. MJ says:

The Pornstache speaks. We’re all safe now. Who wants to pitch in and buy him his very own copy of “Bowling for Columbine?”

  21. Dorian Gray says:

Smitty, say what you will, but Habeas Corpus is just an idea. (Comment 5) It’s a great idea, but it is just an idea. It is a stolen idea at that. (Magna Carta) We use to put that one into practical use. Nowadays not so much.

There’s no slope to slip down. There all ideas conjured up by some brilliant, well-read, slave-owning, deists, of European decent.

  22. RSmitty says:

What I meant was where you can take the angle on gun ownership that way, some nut on the other side could do the same with Habeas Corpus. However, looks like you got that covered already.

I still support your argument, though, with what I said in the last paragraph in #5.

  23. nemski says:

RSmitty wrote: In past arguments, I have quickly pointed out that our Constitution is filled with “weasel” words, allowing far, way far too many interpretations to be conceptually correct, even when those conclusions are contradictions of each other.

    Kind of like The Bible.

  24. Dorian Gray says:

Ah, I see. Well, I guess you’re right. It could go that way, sure., But that’s OK. People use the constitution like the bible. Hey, it’s in there, argument over! Bullshit. It is a discussion about good and bad ideas. That is all. And like you said, plenty of wiggle room…

  25. RSmitty says:

nemski wrote: Kind of like The Bible.

‘Tis unfortunate nothing is as accurate as reading the crumbs in your beard!

  26. Rebecca says:

Joanne, I should have made myself clearer — people who are engaged in jobs that put them in danger should carry some sort of defense. But I don’t think Strine falls into that category.

  27. Joanne Christian says:

Rent collector? (I kid, I kid)

  28. Jason O'Neill says:

It does not matter what profession a person has. A concealed carry permit is a constitutional right .

  29. Dorian Gray says:

Again, for the slow class, constitutional “rights” are just ideas, they are NOT self validating. Plus, concealed carry permits aren’t in the US Constitution. We may bear arms cannot be infringed (so that, and, in order to?) mantain a well regulated militia (whatever that means). I’m pretty sure it doesn’t expilictly say we can hide a Glock 9 in our waist bands… that’s an interpertation that is up for debate.

  30. jason330 says:

I guess Dorian never read arcticle V-09:

The right of the people to hide a Glock 9 in thier waist bands shall not be violated.

  31. The constitution is the contract the holds this country together. Without it every state would be a separate entity. Without it there would be no federal government. Without it there would be no United States. It is a contract with all of the states to work together for a common goal. Hense the whole ratification nonsense. There has to be a consensus, or else the whole deal falls apart.

To say it is just a collection of ideas and cast this idea aside and that idea aside because it doesn’t agree with you is preposterous.

  32. jc,

Mrs. Viti went to many of those same homes in the late 90’s and earlier this decade…she packed a notepad and a smile. Somehow she lived…

  33. Since we are throwing around ideas, can we do something about this polygamy crap?

That to me is way more infringing on the viti

  34. RSmitty says:

Mrs. Viti went to many of those same homes in the late 90’s and earlier this decade…she packed a notepad and a smile. Somehow she lived…

Huh? Is that who Joanne helped when she went there? Is that how JC knows you two?

  35. Joanne Christian says:

I’m sure Mrs. Viti did. I guess my sterile syringes, and needles upped the ante. Darn, should have brought that extra smile instead.

Now how did we get from guns to polygamy? I really am trying to follow along…the rule is “You may have as many guns as you want, but only one wife” OK?

  36. kicking around “ideas” JC…stay with please
