Announcing the Delaware Liberal Inaugural Weekend Festivities

Filed in Delaware by on December 11, 2008

We, the writers of Delaware Liberal, were bummed that there seemed to be no way of getting our team down to the Inauguration or to attend one of the prestigious Inaugural Balls in Washington.  So we have decided to celebrate the occasion of the inauguration of Obama/Biden and Markell/Denn right here in Delaware.

Jack Markell has urged Delawareans to give back to the community to celebrate his victory, so we wanted to do something to honor that request.  So, along with the Progressive Democrats for Delaware and Drinking Liberally, DelawareLiberal and it’s readers will gather at 9AM on January 24th at the Food Bank of Delaware off of Rt 72 in Newark to help the Food Bank with packing food for distribution to various organizations that provide sustenance to the less fortunate of Delaware.  We are asking you and your family to join us for three hours of rewarding work.  Please let me know by emailing liberalgeek at delawareliberal.net.  It will be a great chance to help the community and finally see Donviti do some work.  We only have 30 spots, so be sure to let me know as soon as you can.

After the work, we will have time to play.  We will be throwing our own “Taste of Victory” Inaugural Ball from 7-11PM at Deerfield Fine Wines in Newark.  We will be serving wine, eating tapas style appetizers and hobnobbing with the staff of DelawareLiberal and politicians.  Per Donviti’s request, there will be no dancing.

The price for this event will be $30 per person or $50 per couple.  The event will be upscale dress (no jeans) and will be limited to  21 or older (sorry Mat!).  The proceeds from the evening will go to support Autism Delaware to help them to serve the needs of children and adults with Autism.

To order, use this button:

We anticipate a large turnout, including Matt Denn (and hopefully Jack Markell, too).  I suspect that Obama and Biden are off the table…

Over the next few weeks we will be profiling our charities and telling you their stories.  We hope you will join us in supporting these fine charities and the people that make them go.  We will also provide you with opportunities to contribute monetarily to these charities, even if you cannot attend the event on January 24th.

We have added a new link to the top of the site that will give you the rundown of the events.  Please be sure to check it out for more information.  See you on the 24th.

I just put my elctronic money where by digital mout is and paid for me and Mrs. (Not as) Liberal.

We are excited that you managed to work in the Food Bank work, so the kids can take part in some of this.

    Excellent job Geek!

  2. I thoiught the community work was going to be something with strippers?

    Mrs. (Not as) Liberal

The smart one of the family! (and it’s not just because of for whom she voted)

FTR, I just sent the link to this to the MRS. to check her interest. I’m also going to look into getting that day off for the volunteerism, too.

You missed the memo…you’re stripping the corporate labels off of the canned food.

  5. Karmicjay says:

Put me and the mrs. Down for the food bank. Will check with her bout the evening festivities. Will email as requested too. Later!

  6. pandora says:

    Signed, sealed, delivered!

We are in for both events! Can’t wait!

  7. Unstable Isotope says:

I’ll come if I still have a job (crossing fingers).

  8. jason330 says:

We should have a “pink slip” rate in light of the Bush economy.

  9. Joanne Christian says:

Joanne Christian has put cash on the barrel-head for her ticket.

Me and Husband (we call him Paul), will be at the Food Bank in the AM.

Now Geek–with this “will call” status of the ticket…do I get booted if a PDD or DeLibber wants the “limited amount” of tickets issued? Is there a priority list I’m up against here? Because, as an added bonus….my service will continue into the night, and I will be your Drop-off Designated Driver across the 3 counties. Shall I bring the van?

  10. woooohoooooo!!!!!!!

hope that train is going to wilmington….

the mrs viti, babysqyuishy and me will be in need of some wheels.

Arrival by limo is a hell of an idea!

  11. Karmicjay says:

Don Hussein.. Me and the Mrs. Could also be in need of wheels or I could also volunteer to be the designated driver!

  12. Joanne Christian says:

Hef–Please reread. I said VAN. That means shag carpeting, lawn chairs, and the 8 track alternating between Jefferson Starship and Tom Jones. Maybe heat…if I bring blankets.

Aw shoot–you want a limo? I may not be able to say no. Please don’t wear Axe. Use the good stuff. I need the fragrant alcohol to override the grapes…and your crack that your “friends” say you have been ignoring.

  13. Unstable Isotope says:

Well, I’m going to be employed until mid-Jan. at least so I’ll be able to come with Mr. Isotope (Free Radical).

  14. Unstable Isotope says:

OK, I’ve ordered my ticket. I want to do the Food Bank service as well. I’ll shoot an email later.

  15. liberalgeek says:

That makes 17 confirmed for the party with several others pending (including Donviti and a few other DL contributors).
