Another story broken by your friends at Delaware Talk Radio.

  2. jason330 says:

You win the scoop of the day.

  3. a. price says:

    yawn dozes off..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  4. mike hunt says:

    John Carney just got f***ed….WOW

  5. FSP says:

Not me. We. Randy was right there, too.

  6. liz says:

She just screwed us again, her last biggest mistake! You can bet Biden had lots to do with this appointment…holding the seat for Beau. We are shocked! He earned nothing another political appt working against the citizens.

The word behind the scenes was she was going to choose Smith! Unbelievable!!!

  7. a. price says:

unless carney is in line to run next time.

  8. Randy Nelson says:

We actually broke the story last Wednesday….

  9. Gharmon says:

I didn’t know we lived in a monarchy!

  10. anon says:

    Kaufman 2012!!

  11. anon says:

    Kaufman 2014!!

(Jokes work better when you get the math right).

  12. liz says:

We don’t have to vote for Beau! End the dynasty now! The AG’s office is not responding to many complaints being filed by the citizens. Why should he get any promotion from the citizens?

This appointment is so blatant and transparent it almost laughable.

  13. arthur says:

Will Kaufman have his name on the door or just a sign that says RSVP Biden Family.

  14. El Somnambulo says:

For once, the Old Grey Mare is being unfairly dissed. Is there any doubt that this entire production was orchestrated by Biden? Do you really think that, given her druthers, this would’ve been her choice?

Yes, it is blatant and transparent and wrong.

But the ‘villain’ in this piece is not Minner.

  15. David says:

As a Republican, I couldn’t be happier. The Democrats had Lt. Gov. Carney and they chose someone with no political organization. This is great. People would have been better off voting for ODonnell at least we would have someone who would be fighting for us for 6 years.

I predict that Castle will take the seat in 2010.

  16. jason330 says:

The thing that I am really not looking forward to is the Ron Williams yammering about the notion that Mike Castle will run against Beau Biden.

I have $100 that says Castle will nto run against Biden.

    It aint happening. No way.

    You read it here first.

  17. delawaredem says:

Liz, that will require you to vote for Castle. I will not do it, because I have principles.

I do hope that Carney is ready for another primary.

  18. FSP says:

No way Carney primaries Biden, or at least not successfully. The Vice President of the United States will pull as many strings as he needs with the DSCC and the DNC, and there will be millions and millions of dollars poured in on Beau’s behalf.

  19. RSmitty says:

I didn’t listen, so did she say when Biden resigns his seat for this appointment to happen? Doesn’t that need to happen for this announcement to even have any merit?

  20. Disbelief says:

Is there any chance that Markell is thinking, “The Old Machine just keeps trying to marginalize me; man-oh-man there’s going to be some pay-back.”

  21. delawaredem says:

    Dave…

If Biden is pulling all these strings, and given that both he, Carper and Castle are adherents to the Delaware Way, then I do believe Castle will just retire or run for reelection, but not against Biden.

  22. nemski says:

Here’s a crazy thought, maybe Carney said no as he is planning a run against Castle.

  23. FSP says:

I don’t think Castle will run, either, for the same reasons that I don’t think Carney will run. Castle would be formidable, and he would bring in a lot of NRSC and RNC money, but Joe would continue to up the ante. That would be tough to beat. It really all depends on the situation on the ground in about a year.

  24. nemski says:

Sorry, I meant Carney for Congress.

  25. June says:

I think Markell should offer Carney a place in his cabinet.

  26. jason330 says:

Castle would be formidable, and he would bring in a lot of NRSC and RNC money,

Ha! Joke of the day. Good one Dave.

  27. they chose someone with no political organization.
    *
    DUH
Ted has Biden’s political organization behind him. What more does he need?

  28. I think Markell should offer Carney a place in his cabinet.
    *
    I definately agree. Where best?

  29. Here’s a crazy thought, maybe Carney said no as he is planning a run against Castle.
    *
    good one Dumski.

Turn down a U.S. Senate appointment (even a two year place-holder deal) for a Rep. seat run attempt?
The Delaware Way is supposed to work to where the deal INCLUDED Castle promising to trade-off his seat to Carney….for what I can’t say. With Rep. Carper, the Gov. Castle BFF political job trade-off was even-steven.

  30. Is there any chance that Markell is thinking, “The Old Machine just keeps trying to marginalize me; man-oh-man there’s going to be some pay-back.”
    *
Not a chance in hell. Markell just sent a presser of high praise and I say that the deal included him not having to make the appointment.

  31. Dorian Gray says:

So Biden just won re-election to the Senate. Based on the “Kaufman 2014” I guessing DE law say he serves Biden’s term out rather than having to run in 2010.

Castle will most likely have died by then, right?

  32. think he only serves out 2 years DG

  33. Susan Regis Collins says:

I know it’ll be difficult in a post RAM world but are there any women/minorities being groomed for higher office by the party of the people?

Passing these offices from one man to another gets on my nerves…bad.

I must say it’s a relief that no one suggested Christaxer Coons for anything on this thread.

  34. Rebecca says:

I was just talking to a friend who is very wise about these things. He suggested that we watch carefully in about two weeks. John Carney will be given some plum assignment in DC. It will be the very best of best jobs and he will love it.

Meanwhile, Kaufman can be trusted to step aside with no muss or fuss in two years. Beau can run with little if any competition — the R’s still are smarting from their effort to beat him the last time and their not getting any stronger.

Joe has never gotten rich serving the people of Delaware all these years. I don’t begrudge him wanting a dynasty. And Beau will vote the way he should, mostly.

They will all live happily everafter.

  35. FSP says:

” I don’t begrudge him wanting a dynasty. And Beau will vote the way he should, mostly.

They will all live happily everafter.”

Are you seriously endorsing a royal line of succession for a US Senate seat?

  36. Randy Nelson says:

    Rebecca,

I’m not buying the rosy scenario you’re painting re: the dynastic tendancies Biden & Co. are displaying. As for Carney, it’s a shame he’s been played so much this past year. Almost feel bad for the guy.

  37. Damn!!! That above comment was me, Mike Matthews.

  38. delawaredem says:

How are you able to post under Randy’s handle?!? Conspiracy! Sockpuppetry!

  39. LOL…One computer in the studio that we all use.

  40. FSP says:

Studio computer + cookies = unintentional sockpuppetry.

  41. liberalgeek says:

    Wait… Who wrote that?

  42. delawaredem says:

LOL. Burris and/or Matthews could really have fun with this single computer excuse. Burris could declare his support for Beau Biden and Matthews could declare that is going to work for Karen Weldin Stewart.

  43. FSP says:

Really, we should just have a “DTR” handle and you can figure out who wrote the comment by what time it was written.

  44. Miscreant says:

“The word behind the scenes was she was going to choose Smith! ”

    That was so last week.
    H. W-Smith, like you Liz, is just another empty girdle.

  45. liz says:

Susan is correct: The democratic party doesnt promote, or support women in high office. It could have been “so last week”, but if Minner had picked she was going to pick Smith. I guess the “good ole boys” overruled her or told her to “shut up and sit down, your voice doesnt count Ruth Ann”.
