DEwind: The Week That Was November 10th

If you are going to read one Delaware blog post this week, this is the post to read. I kid, I kid. Taking a look back at the week of November 10th, Delaware bloggers looked at Veterans Day, picks by our newly elected executives, the GOP in complete disarray, The Underground Railroad and The Christiana Mall.

You know that you should begin to worry about your sanity, when delawaredem tries to talk you down.

Jason is a bit glass half empty about the new leadership in the State Legislature. Delawaredem calls a pig a pig and asks that Democrats in the State Senate to do something about their oinker.

Adams may think it is still the 1930’s, when deals were always made in a smoke filled back room, and where gays stayed in the closet if they knew what was good for them, but it is the 21st century, and either Adams gets out of our way on his own, or we will push him. 

Kavips hopes that the new State Senators will remember who sent them to Dover.

Maybe Jason is going to have to go to anger management class:  lets look at his attacks on Carper regarding Lieberman or Markell’s pick for Chief of Staff. Sounds like Jason needs another talking down. Kavips writes:

Bottom line, these controversies are just like the yearly NFL draft…. a lot of hot air over nothing……. No one is talking about it by September, and it is completely forgotten by the first Sunday in February……

Just pick good people who will win for us, and forget about what ANYONE else is saying….

Just do it.

While our new Democratic leaders are looking at an era of bipartisanship, the GOP, a party is disarray, is beginning to look like Macy’s White Sale and a possible purge in the ranks is on the horizon. Dave Anderson shows why the Republican Party could fall into the dustbin of history with this vile post on why Gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry. Pandora delves more into The Republican Myth and writes:

Either they [The Republican Party] want government out of people’s lives or in it.  They can’t run on both.

On a funny note, apparently the Republican Party has found their own black man. Can they pander even more than they did with the pick of Palin? Speaking on Republican women with no chance, Christine O’Donnell is not going to go away. Maybe we could convince Mike Protack to run in the primary against her.

With the election troubles we have had in Delaware and the weak media coverage, we need to play close attention to the fact that our Primary and General Elections are too close together.

Beau’s off to Iraq . . . again. Didn’t he already have a going away party back in September. He leaves for Iraq more times than Burris shuts down blogs. That joke never gets old. Though reading Delaware Politics of late, one can understand why Burris started his own blog. What’s RSmitty to do?

Donviti went on the air at Delaware Talk Radio with Maria Evans. I hear once you go Donviti, you swear off men for the rest of your life. You can listen to Friday’s debacle if you so choose. Good news for everyone, Donviti has found gainful employment, so we as taxpayers don’t have to support him anymore. In case you were wondering, Donviti’s job wasn’t with the Obama White House.

Cassandra let us know of an opportunity for us to preserve an important piece of Delaware history, Harriet Tubman and The Underground Railroad.

Many Delawareans are not aware that this state was key ground in the operation of the Underground Railroad.  It is an amazing history well worth preserving and telling — this adds to Delaware’s rich history and adds another attraction for the state’s Tourist industry.  In addition, should the application be approved, may of the identified key sites and neighborhoods along the Byway will benefit from some additional preservation and promotion activity.

I am not a Delaware Native, so it took my boy to teach me about Delaware’s place in history and, sadly, it took Cassandra to re-introduce me to our collective history. More reading and studying is required. Fact of the day: there’s about 140,000 hits in Google for delaware underground railroad.

Veterans Day was last week, and we at Delaware Liberal remembered our the men and women who serve and had served our country with these two honorific posts: In Memoriam and Donviti’s personal Veterans Day Story.

Being completely exhausted day after day with no contact from a loved one is what is the worst part of being underway.  You have no idea what is going on back home.  You have 2 children that are at their cutest ages and you are missing out on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, your birthday and on and on and on.

Every time the ship would go to periscope depth or we deployed the antenna as a junior crewman you would ask the chief standing watch with you if they thought we would be able to get messages from home this time.  “Chief, what do you think?  This time?  God I hope I get a message this time, I miss my kids.  I can’t wait to ge home and make love to my wife…..”  On and on the scenarios would go.

Are very own Cassandra beat our ALL local media with a post regarding the financial difficulties that the owners of The Christiana Mall are having. Think about this for a moment — Cassandra beat out people who actually get paid to disseminate the new. Congrats, Cassandra.
