Wasilla Hillbillies Looting Neiman Marcus

Filed in National by on November 5, 2008

Great article in Newsweek. They talk about a fairly extensive hacker problem that plagued both the McCain and Obama campaigns which is pretty sobering. But this is too good to pass up:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Make sure you read page 2 of this article — this whole magazine looks like it will have some good stuff.

    I thought this was priceless:

What I’m thinking in my head is, ‘Well, the truth is, Brian, we can’t solve global warming because I f—ing changed light bulbs in my house. It’s because of something collective’.”

Mcinsane’s last campaign instructions for handling Sarah:

    1) Throw under bus.
    2) Roll forward.
    3) Roll backward.
    4) Repeat as necessary.

  3. Just more proof she was way out of her league. To think she will become the next Reagan is a dream only in her own mind.

The more I learn, the more I think she will do anything for power and status, not to mention a ticket out of Alaska.

  4. Geezer says:

I would say she’s in trouble in Alaska, but never underestimate the ability of conservatives to practice the politics of resentment. They’ll rally around her because the big, unfair media was mean to her.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

Yes, Brian, she has ambition but not smarts. If she were smart she would not have said yes to McCain’s offer. Finishing a term as governor of Alaska would not have hurt her ambition any but being the running mate of a losing ticket certainly will. Although I think her abuse of power may come to bite her in the *ss eventually even if she hadn’t ran for VP.

I’m torn to whether she’ll be the new face of the GOP or whether she’ll get kicked to the curb. This new revelation certainly won’t help her but I can’t say that the cultural conservative Republican base understands reality.

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

I agree, Geezer but her addition to the ticket was cited most often for the reason that prominent Republicans switched their vote to Obama. I guess it depends on who wins the GOP war.
