Chris Matthews spent much of Hardball this afternoon discussing the new Era of Obama.    I do admit, the election of Barack Obama feels different from the elections of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush.   Those are the elections I can clearly remember and was politically aware during.   It did not feel as those elections of 1988, 1992 or 2000 ushered in a new era.   This one does.  You can feel it.   1980 was a similar “era” election.   So was 1960.    I posted the video above because I feel it is evidence of it.

It’s official. The Obama dance has been invented by an infant. This is great! The last time I saw this much passion in an election of a Democrat was when Kennedy was elected. This election represents a ‘changing of the gaurd’. Whatever this presidency brings us, one thing is for certain, it is the start of a new era of leaders in America. I was brought up at a time when blacks had to sit at the back of the bus and now, a black man is driving that bus. To quote the Virginia Slims slogan: We’ve come a long way, Baby! This presidency may not be perfect but it makes me proud to an American. Our democracy is our most precious gift. New doors have been opened for the people of this country with Obama’s candidacy and with Palin’s. I do believe it when Obama says “Yes we can”. We may be many and varied but the one thing we have in common is that we are all part of the best country in the universe. I am intelligent enough to realize that the Democrats have been handed a huge responsibility and that it is ours to screw up, but the responsibility brings with it a hope that our leaders have heard the message this campaign has brought and that there is no going back to the old ways of anger and hatred. We do have to work together if we are to make this a strong nation again.

Your little video clip of your child represents what all of us should be thinking about as we move forward……their future!
