Ya know, P.O. I’m not sure I agree. I have heard many stories that perfectly paint him as an alcoholic. From playing the “He does it, too” game to darn-near stalking behavior, Atkins has issues. Perhaps the alcohol is a symptom rather than a cause, but it sure don’t help.

First, the D’s can certainly gloat a little, but saying the R’s are a dead party is just plain spitting at history. The same was said about the D’s in 1994…and the R’s in 1974….and the D’s in 1982…..and….well, you get the point. This was a big night, but now comes governing, and, funny thing about governing, it makes you make choices and choices can sometimes be misunderstood or distorted or just plain disliked by the electorate. No, the R’s are not dead, they’re just not doing very well right now. R’s will continue to have a difficult time winning in this state, if for no other reason than the registration advantage, but they are not dead.

Second, and heaven help me for doing this, but I just can’t take it anymore, Atkins is NOT a drunk. Did alcohol play a significant role in his poor choices on a given night (and probably a few more) – yes. Did immaturity and general ass-holery play an even bigger role – you betcha. I say this as someone who knows folks well who are alcoholics. Even the evaluation he had under court order said his problem was not alcohol. Please quit calling him a drunk. It fails to enlighten anyone about alcoholism or Atkins.

The losses in LSD were not surprising. We thought that Kay Ryan would do better, though. And for Barb Hudson to take 41% when Biff Lee had run unopposed since 1996, well, we’re happy with that. The unfortunate thing is that many of the registered Democrats here are actually dixiecrats and we have to find moderate-conservative Democrats to win those seats. It’s a bit scary to live in a blue town in a red county in a blue state.

Yep. The Republicans were creamed last night. Even marginal candidates like KWS won big.

Look at that number for Oberle! He must be very concerned that an unknown, unfunded candidate like Basara could do that well against him.

Take a look at history, the results last night were indeed very bad but the end is not near for any party.

Many factors went into the losses and they can be overcome in many ways.

The election was tough but think about s few tough facts- the budget, economy, health care etc.

The GOP failed to show any answers on the issues of the day. We will see if the democrats have any solutions which will work. Voters will have little patience if they do not.

To be honest, 90% of it was high voter turnout on Obama’s coattails, and Bush Syndrome. You have two years to keep those seats and make a difference or else the balance becomes more even.
