Take a breath… and look at what we’ve done

I don’t know who will win on today, but I wanted to take a moment and acknowledge what we have done.  I feel honored to be part of this movement, and feel sorry for those on the sidelines who can only sneer and mock or slander and smear while offering no solutions to the problems facing our country today.  They exist to vote against Obama, and if you notice they have nothing complimentary to say about John McCain or his policies.  They offer nothing but more of the same.  But I digress, and frankly I am so over these Little Engines that Couldn’t.

This post is for us.  The Obama supporters who knocked on doors, made the calls, talked to friends and neighbors and opened their wallets to support their candidate.  Our fundraising skills were impressive, but our ground game was staggering.  Oh yeah, we definitely put boots on the ground.  We became involved, and I can’t help but think that this involvement is what our Founding Fathers envisioned when they built this country.

I just returned from voting for Obama.  I can’t express everything I’m feeling at this moment.  History is being made, but not just for history’s sake.  I believe in my candidate, his issues and his vision for our country.  I am proud of my vote.

But what I’m really proud of is the legacy we are handing our children.  Both of mine voted with me today.  They entered the booth with me and pressed the buttons.  They became part of history, but even more importantly they learned what Democracy means.  They’ve learned through this election season – and their crazy mom – the power of We the people.

I am also unbearably proud of my country.  Have we really come this far?  Oh, I know race still is a factor, but if it had been the overwhelming force Obama’s candidacy wouldn’t have got off the ground.  We have turned a corner.  The world is watching, and America is showing Her greatness, yet again, by leading the way.

So take that breath… and look at what we’ve done.
