DV and Mrs. DV,

My intent here was not to offend or insult. Rather, I misread his final line. I originally took it as he had no faith in the institution itself which puzzled me. Upon reread I can see how it was more about the trouble with the sanctity of the institution as practiced at large not personally.

"Do I consider myself a Catholic or no? Why is that relevant?"

Just curious. I find that a good many people who share your views still consider themselves Catholic which is odd.

Final point: annulment doesn't mean the marriage never happened but rather there was some flaw that prevented the marriage to coming to proper fruition. (But yes it is essentially a weasel way of offering divorce)

All you have to do is run to your favorite Priest at Sallies like Vinny Scott did and they will forgive you and you will also be allowed to make your children Bastards for that was the result. Because he said I may have been able to kick field goals but I was a bit immature to get married. What a ASSHOLE!!!!

to my misinformed friend Tom S

Oh, and my kids won't be raised bigots. I would venture to say that the SMM has way more of influence on it's children being bigots then the way I will raise my kids.

I would dare say that a majority of it's parents most likely send their kids to that school to avoid having to be in public schools of wilmington b/c of the various races that attend the schools.

Duffy,

to your first question. After I got done laughing I am able to type my answer.

NO. I will spare you my diatribe as to why considering I just wrote a post that took me 45 minutes sort of explaining why I don't.

I don't even know where to begin with your next question. You think my wife doesn't know my views on marriage? Why would it matter if she didn't know how I feel. Like it would offend her? Her Cinderalla dream of having a luxurious wedding would be shattered when she learns I think it is a big joke. One big money making machine for the Church and the local economy.

Do I consider myself a Catholic or no? Why is that relevant?

I consider myself enlightened my friend.

DG: couldn't have said it any better.
Duffy: you have been coming to this website long enough to know that DV doesn't hide his views about anything. He puts it out there and does the same in all aspects of his life. DV is a loving husband and father and we (as DG said) define our marriage as it works for us NOT what any religious/political/cultural norm tells us to define it. Plain and simple.

The point is that "marriage" can mean whatever the two people married want it to mean and I don't get to tell you. If it isn't religious for you, that's fine. If it has no sanctity for you, that's fine. If it is simply a way to raise a family or to recognize your relationship with your spouse or whatever, that's OK.

How you define your marriage is frankly none of my business and it has no relevance to how I define my own. The entire religious argument that a homosexual marriage redefines mine is a smoke screen for relgious zealots who think gays are sinning. It's a insult to my intelligence. Actually every argument against gay marriage is an insult to my intelligence.

Go ahead and propose one.

Marriage became a secular institution when the state got involved. I, for one, would prefer to have a civil union if that was available. I was married by a judge. I didn't want the church to have anything to do with my marriage.

I'm not religious but I can imagine that getting an annulment would be a slap in the face. It's basically saying that the marriage didn't exist, right? So that means all those children are little mistakes.

So does marriage as a secular institution have no sanctity? Does Mrs. DV know that you don't think much of the whole institution?

Do you consider yourself Catholic or no?

How does the church justify their decision to the ones left behind?

Pretty easy to justify on pragmatic grounds. Would you want the prick to stay with his wife and kids and diddle Ms. Trophy on the side? Or would you want him to leave his wife but be unable to marry Ms. Trophy, and raise a bunch of bastards?

Instead, they let Mr. Prick marry Ms. Trophy, and the Church at least has a shot at getting the kids souls.

It is amazing how pragmatic the Church can become when there is money involved.

Actually, Tom, it's not. I know a guy who had been married for 15 years, has three kids, and then left his wife and family for the ultimate trophy wife. Of course, he wanted to marry the trophy wife in the church so he went for an annulment. His reason for the annulment: At his bachelor party (15 yrs earlier!) - the night before the wedding - he claimed he had too much to drink. The annulment was granted.

This was a complete slap in the face to his first wife and his children. How does the church justify their decision to the ones left behind? And my example is not the exception. I know at least 11 people who have received annulments - quite easily. Dare I say too easily.
