Real Question for DelawareLiberal
- Should going to Regent’s University disqualify a person from holding public office?
If anybody is applying a “religious litmus test” it would seem to be me.
If Clatworthy cared to make that case, I would point out that Regent’s mission is to undermine of not totally tear down our secular government and replace it with a militant Christianist government that would have been an anathema to our founding fathers.
Given Regent’s mission, trying to figure out if Clatworthy shares Robertson’s revolutionary anti-American world view is perfectly legitimate.

I would definitely be suspicious of a candidate with that background. My vote would be dependent on the candidate’s positions on the issues.

Uh Oh, I feel a herpes outbreak coming on by your question…so here goes, I graduated from a Jewish college, a Mormon college, and now work at an Episcopalian boarding school. Did it ever occur to you, some, and many people go to certain schools because of academic or scholarship reasons? No bust on Boston College, Temple, St. John’s, Notre Dame, SMU, Loma Linda, etc., etc.? And why am I defending the tolerant, inclusive, diverse, benefit when you man the liberal, progressive site. Situational huh? You betcha!!

Going to Regent for the academics? That’s like reading Playboy for the articles.

Joanne you were being sarcastic comparing Regent to Boston College, St. John’s, Notre Dame, SMU, etc.? Right?
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 19 October 2008 at 4:45 pm:
Is Regent University accredited? I know that people choose colleges for different reasons. I went to public college on a scholarship. That is why I said I would be suspicious. The actions and positions of the candidate would be the first consideration.

Regent University says that they are accredited.

They are accredited–I am working with DSU’s current re-accreditation and I checked: Regents is accredited.

Weren’t you folks freaking the fuck out when there were rumors that barack obama was a muslim?
Bigot.
Comment by liberalgeek on 19 October 2008 at 11:04 pm:
Tom – We have evidence that Clatworthy is a Christian! Run for the hills! Not only that, but he has been trained by Christians with an intent for him to infiltrate the government! Oh, the humanity!

We were freaking out over the sheer stupidity of the Muslim rumors AND that repubs had made up from whole cloth another despicable way to try to trash somebody.
I’ll point out that it is your guys who persist in believing the Muslim rumor and persist in finding that a good reason not to vote for someone.
Way to rewrite history, dude.
