State News & NJ Both Bite on Bogus Lee Press Release

Filed in Delaware by on October 17, 2008

Spreading the transparently ludicrous idea that Markell has something to fear from Bill Lee means it must be a slow news day. DSN & NJ both bit on Bill Lee’s claims that Jack Markell is avoiding Lee.

Although Drew Volturo does circle back to the fact that 6 debates are scheduled for the next three weeks and Lee passed up 10 opportunities to debate Markell.

All in all it is kind of odd for Lee to take this tact given his breezy willingness to blow off face to face confrontations and his utter lack of policy proposals. I mean, imagine what these debates between Lee and Markell will look like; what would they debate? Lee has not offered plans to create a single job or improve the education of a single child. All he’s got is this nextel lawsuit BS that has been debunked six ways to Sunday.

The main stream media is lapping up Lee’s spin. They ought to be asking how the hell Lee expects people to vote for him when he hasn’t told anyone what he would do as governor.

Sometimes the artificial lures work on fish that don’t know what real bait looks like.

  2. Mike Protack says:

Wait, are debates important? I was told they were not.

  3. jason330 says:

I could see that you’d find Lee’s take on this somewhat galling.

  4. MJ says:

Well, the only thing I saw Bill (hiccup) Lee talk about is that there would never be a sales tax while he was governor. Actually, I didn’t know anyone was proposing one. Guess he was reading off the wrong bottle of Wild Turkey.

When Lee ducked Protack, it was the action of a guy who really didn’t have his heart in the race and/or thought he could coast to victory in the primary.

So what is it when Markell ducks Lee?

  6. cassandra_m says:

Follow along nat — Markell is debating Lee. There are schedules and everything.

Lee apparently can get some attention by getting his whine on.

Can we have some intellectual honesty here?

When Mike Protack similarly “got his whine on,” as you put it, people here said nasty things about Lee that they’re not saying about Markell. Delawaredem accused Lee of cowardice; jason said he was AWOL. I’m just sayin’ it’d be nice to apply the same standards to your man.

I like Jack Markell and am going to vote for him. But I also believe he should be debating Lee everywhere, every time.

I’m curious what his scheduling conflicts are. If they’re family or religious holidays or events, that’s cool – those clearly come first. Can’t-miss meetings as treasurer run a close second. But at this point, there shouldn’t be too many things more important than contrasting yourself with your opponent in front of interested voters.

  8. cassandra_m says:

So how can he have scheduling conflicts when there is clearly a schedule already for Markell and Lee to debate?

    Sheesh.

  9. not a troll says:

From the AP: Campaign spokesman Andrew Roos “says scheduling conflicts prevented Markell from accepting the 8 invitations cited by Lee.”

    … and that’s about what I thought.
