Katz v Clatworthy: Round 1

Candidate night in Delaware, some boredom mixed with a little fireworks.

Let me start with the fireworks. Dr. Mike Katz (D) is running against John Clatworthy (R) for the State Senate District #4 seat recently vacated by Charles Copeland. Katz accused Clatworthy of sending out an attack mailing based on Katz’s answers to the Project Vote Smart Political Courage Test.

Read Katz’s responses for yourself and see if you agree with him. Then read Clathworthy’s answers . . . oh wait, Clatworthy hasn’t answered one question on the Political Courage Test and the deadline has passed. But he feels free to use a questionnaire he has refused to answer against his opponent. Priceless.

Mr. Clatworthy what are you hiding? Are you hiding your socially conservative views that don’t jibe with the voters in the 4th?

On a related note, Clatworthy mentioned he got his MBA, but he didn’t tell everyone where he obtained it from. I wonder why that is? Hmm, I wonder what Pat Robertson would do?

Delaware Liberal will be watching this race closely as the Democrats have a good chance to take this seat and not allow a banker and right-wing ideologue a place in Delaware State Legislature. Let’s nip this soon-to-be career politician in the bud and make him an obscure Republican politician.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

First up was Charles Old Jr. who is running for my Representative District #11against Greg Lavelle. Now I don’t know Mr. Old, but he seemed a bit nervous up there. Mr. Lavelle did not attend. My prediction is that this race will go to Lavelle.

Then came challenger Dennis Williams (D) who is running against Republican incumbent Robert J. Valihura, Jr of the 10th District. In 2004 the district went to Kerry by 1,200 and Minner by 1,200; and in 2000, Gore by 200 and MInner lost by 200. Williams has a shot at beating Valihura.

Next up was Jim Bowers (R) who is up against Bryon Short (D), the State Representative for the 7th District. This is the second time they have squared off in approximately 18 months and Short was the winner by a mere 200 votes. In 2004, the district went to Kerry by 1,000 votes and Minner by 900; in 2000, Gore by over 1,500 and Minner by 1,500. Short will keep his seat.
