Monday morning read

If you don’t read Frank Rich every Sunday morning, well, what’s wrong with gosh darnit?

But the debate’s most telling passage arrived when Biden welled up in recounting his days as a single father after his first wife and one of his children were killed in a car crash. Palin’s perky response — she immediately started selling McCain as a “consummate maverick” again — was as emotionally disconnected as Michael Dukakis’s notoriously cerebral answer to the hypothetical 1988 debate question about his wife being “raped and murdered.” If, as some feel, Obama is cool, Palin is ice cold. She didn’t even acknowledge Biden’s devastating personal history.

and there this nice nugget

We are not a nation of whiners, as Phil Gramm would have it, but the G.O.P. is now the party of whiners. That rebranding became official when Republican House leaders moaned that a routine partisan speech by Nancy Pelosi had turned their members against the bailout bill. As the stock market fell nearly 778 points, Barney Frank taunted his G.O.P. peers with pitch-perfect mockery: “Somebody hurt my feelings, so I will punish the country!”

I read Frank Rich – you betcha!

  2. Art Downs says:

Joe Biden seemed to be eager to exploit a true personal tragedy with the unsubstantiated claim that “the truck driver drank his breakfast”. Were there any DUI charges filed? What was the disposition of the case?

Joe Biden has always been loose with the truth and has been very good at the game.

True, the whole DUI thing has never been proven, but that wasn’t what this post was about was it? Hey , I gotta a whacky idea, why don’t you trolls try to stay on topic?! Oh yeah, you can’t.

What do you want from the “hockey mom?” She’s an idiot who thinks she can flirt her way into office. Maybe in Alaska, but not the rest of the country.

  8. Truth Teller says:

Having knowledge of the accident more so than anyone on this blog listen carefully. THE TRUCK DRIVER HAD BEEN DRINKING BUT WAS UNDER THE LIMIT FOR A DUI CHARGE. so trolls once again you have proven that on this and many other subjects you don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground. And that is why on most subjects you find yourself and you ILK up shit creek without a paddle.

  9. liberalgeek says:

Out of curiosity, TT, what was the legal limit in 1972? I know that in the 80’s it got a great deal of attention and the numbers started being enforced, then lowered. It was just 4 years after first Mrs. Biden’s death that GWB was “arrested” for DUI, no?

Bush, who was 30 at the time, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and his driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine.

Doesn’t sound like the laws were quite as strict back then.
