McCain supporters can never again mock Chris Matthew’s “Tingle up my leg” line

Filed in National by on October 3, 2008

Why? Because it’s been topped by the National Review’s Rich Lowry.

I’m sure I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, “Hey, I think she just winked at me.” And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and man, she’s got it.

  1. Unstable Isotope says:

He got more than a tingle.

  2. Benjamin says:

I had the exact same thought.

And what is funny is that when you look at the archives of the Corner, Lowry kept writing all summer about how Obama supporters are weird, and how cultish we are, and how people like Obama even though there is no there and they barely know him and so on.

It would be hilarious if it was not so sad.

  3. Unstable Isotope says:

You have to be kidding me. Time has published an article about how women don’t like Palin because she’s pretty and we’re jealous.

Here’s why Palin doesn’t make the grade:

    1. She’s too pretty. This is very bad news. At school, pretty girls tend to be liked only by other pretty girls. The rest of us, whose looks hover somewhere around underwhelming, resent them and whisper archly of their “unearned attention.” So, if everyone calls your candidate “hot,” you’re in a whole mess of trouble. If the Pakistani head-of-state more or less hits on her, well, yes, she’ll get a sympathy vote, but we’re in Dukakis-in-the-tank territory. It’s an admiration vaporizer. (Of course a candidate can’t be too ugly, or it will scare the men, who are clearly shallow as a gender.)

I’m actually not surprised that this has been written. I felt a little funny today when I was talking to my coworkers today about Palin’s debate performance and how I thought her constant smiling and occasional winking was distracting and inappropriate. I said she was too “cutsie” but I did worry in the back of my mind that people might think I’m jealous.

  4. Unstable Isotope says:

Keith is too funny on this one! Rich Lowry wins the grossest “worst person in the world” award. Keith says that he is explaining a little too well Palin’s appeal to the far right.

  5. pandora says:

Stop worrying. We’d say the same thing if a male candidate posed and flashed a grin after every response. Palin played the “I’m too sexy” card and Republicans are following up with “don’t hate her because she’s beautiful”.

    It’s nonsense.

  6. yes she winked and and a lot of guys straightened up in the pants section. Please, she tried to use sex appeal…

  7. anon says:

I don’t want to hear about Rich Lowry’s little starbursts ever again, thank you very much.

  8. delawaredem says:

Not me. I don’t know about you, but when I hate everything a beautiful woman stands for, and in addition I think she is a horrible human being and parent for using her children for political gain, I tend to be not sexually attracted or aroused by her.

She could have flashed us and my crotch would be unmoved.

  9. anonthree says:

Just sharing as it was sent to me by a friend and thought it was interesting. 10 minutes is all.

  10. anonone says:

I betcha Ann Coulter is jealous.

  11. What a douche. If anyone remembers, in Al Franken’s book Lies and the Lying liars…he has a chapter where he talks about wanting to fight Lowry. It’s fucking hilarious and Lowry’s such a pussy.

  12. mike w. says:

Oh I can still mock matthews, I’ve just got this guy to mock now too…

  13. Dorian Gray says:

Maybe I am not from po-dunk Montana. I don’t like Nascar. I don’t drink Budweiser. I’m just your run-of-the-mill east coast liberal. So given this caveat I have a fucking news bulletin: Sarah Palin is not that attractive. Bloody hell, you think she’s Megan Fox with all this hype.

  14. Dorian Gray says:

My wife just explained it. For conservative, if a woman doesn’t look like Madeliene Albright, they’re pretty somehow.

I wonder what a woman like Albright thinks about Palin, by the way, considering Albright about 17,000 time more qualified to be PROTUS or VP.

  15. h. says:

Ann Coulter is more attractive …….. and she used to be a dude.

  16. Joanne Christian says:

You know what Dorian, I agree w/ you on the “pretty” sentiment–but then a bit ago someone brought up that “naughty librarian” image–and I guess that’s when the guys and girls parted ways. Remember, historically researchers tell us that we girls aren’t “image stimulated”–but that’s the researchers…

  17. Hube says:

What a douche. If anyone remembers, in Al Franken’s book Lies and the Lying liars…he has a chapter where he talks about wanting to fight Lowry. It’s fucking hilarious and Lowry’s such a pussy.

Look who’s talking (Franken, that is). Yeah, “let’s fight” and REALLY see who has the better argument!

Sorry, but comparing Lowry to [Chris] Matthews is what really is douche-like. Let’s see … Matthews has TWO TV shows and does high-profile political commentary on the tube while Lowry has … a magazine column and a few guest appearances on Fox.

  18. It was written in jest, Hube.

  19. pandora says:

Come on, Hube. Lighten up. I thought Chris Matthews and his “tingle” when it came to Obama were silly. Lowry waxing lyrical on Palin read like a Harlequin Romance novel. Bet he’s embarrassed. I know I’m embarrassed for him.

  20. Unstable Isotope says:

I hope Lowry’s embarrassed. He’s getting a lot of ribbing anyway. I think NR must be embarrassed as well, but they keep publishing K-Lo so it must not bother them.

  21. G Rex says:

“It was written in jest, Hube.”

What was, Franken’s book? Well, he’s certainly become a national joke.

Starbursts? What the hell, Lowry might as well just say, “Ooh Mrs. Palin, I’m gettin’ a semi!”

(5 point deduction if you can name the movie, because it would mean you’ve seen it!)

  22. Yes, the chapter on how Franken wanted to fight Lowry. It was all a joke. But Lowry acted like a little bitch and thought Franken was being serious.

  23. delawaredem says:

And guess what G Rex….Franken is currently leading in the polls against Norm Coleman. Ha!

  24. cassandra_m says:

Now this is good — from Andrew Sullivan:

In reaction to Rich Lowry, I’m sure I’m not the only woman who, upon reading his words, sat up a little straighter and said, “Is he kidding? Is he goddamn kidding me?” Is this the kind of reaction the women in this country should want men to have to the possible first female Vice Presidential candidate in history? Holy hell.

I thought Palin’s performance at the debate was downright embarrassing and on top of that I have to read this clown’s blog, stating more or less that Palin gave him an erection? Little starbursts my ass. Here’s what I thought when Palin “dropped” that first wink at us: “Did she just wink at us like she was America’s cocktail waitress?” Rich Lowry is on the verge of slapping Sarah Palin on the ass and asking her for another of those fantastic whiskey sours.

Ye gads. Has anyone noticed how quiet the Hillary Brought Down by Sexism crowd is so damn quiet about this crap pointed at Palin?

  25. anonone says:

    ” crap pointed at Palin?”

Considering Rich Lowry (have you seen his picture?), that is too funny, Cassandra!

  26. Miscreant says:

“…blah, blah, blah… I have a fucking news bulletin: Sarah Palin is not that attractive. ”

You’re obviously a little light in the loafers. No problem here, as we should celebrate diversity. I admire your courage in coming out.

  27. Dominique says:

‘I think she is a horrible human being and parent for using her children for political gain’

Wow. That’s harsh. How, exactly has she used her children for political gain? They’re part of her life. Or are you one of those cavemen who thinks that a mother of five has no business running for political office? Especially with poor little Trig! Why…why…her HUSBAND might have to be the primary caregiver!! What in heaven’s name will the Palin family do to survive this horrible fate?! Oh, the humanity!!!

She hasn’t ‘used’ her children any more than Obama has – or did you forget the cutesy Access Hollywood interview with the girls?

  28. Joanne Christian says:

Hi Dominique-it’s great to see you out playing again!!!

  29. Dominique says:

‘Has anyone noticed how quiet the Hillary Brought Down by Sexism crowd is so damn quiet about this crap pointed at Palin?’

    I don’t necessarily think it’s sexism when it’s a compliment.

Those of us who saw sexism as a factor in Hillary’s candidacy (tho not the ultimate reason for its failure), have seen a lot of that same sexism being launched at Palin. The idiots who questioned whether a mother of young children should run and the pigs – men and women – who refer to her as a dumb bimbo come to mind. Lowry’s comment was silly, but it wasn’t sexist. At least not in my opinion.

  30. Dominique says:

Hi Joanne! I just needed a little time out. I read the site every day, but I’ve been a little apprehensive about commenting. It had gotten a little too vicious for me. Things seem to have calmed down a bit. At least I hope so.
