Romney: McCain “Reprehensible.”

Filed in National by on September 15, 2008

This video is from the primary, when McCain was lying about Romney.   But if you did not know that, you would think it was from today.  This video proves that McCain has not changed.  In this 2008 campaign, he has chosen lies as the way to win, no matter his opponent.

  1. Sharon says:

What, precisely, has McCain lied about Obama?

  2. Truth teller says:

    SHARON

For starters lets begin with the LIE about teaching sex eduction to minor children. When the Bill Obama supported was to teach children how to respond to approaches by strangers thus teaching them to guard against CHILD MOLESTERS. McCain seems to be against this type of education by his ads therefor does this mean he supports child molesters. Just asking.

  3. Sharon says:

TT, it’s not a lie to say Obama supported sex education–age appropriate or otherwise–to children as young as kindergarten. It’s fine to argue that he favors “good touch/bad touch” discussions for 5-year-olds, but, nonetheless, it’s still sex ed.

The question there becomes, do you think the state should be doing this or is it the responsibility of parents to do so? And I think arguing that thinking parents are the people responsible for this education means you are “pro-molester” is a far bigger “lie” (a distortion, really) than anything in McCain’s ad.

I think telling my kids about this stuff is my responsibility, not the school’s, particularly with kids so young. That doesn’t make me “pro-molester.”

So, is that the only thing you’ve got? I’m looking for specifics here, things that are absolutely false, not things that are true in one sense but not favorable. Or maybe I just think lying means telling falsehoods, not telling things your opponent doesn’t want you to say.

  4. pandora says:

Let’s see… First, the Kindergarten ad was deliberately misleading and nasty. The ad didn’t say “parents should warn their children against child predators”. So stop pretending it was reasonable.

How about these lies (all of which have been called out by the media, including FOX)

    — Obama will raise taxes on the middle class
    — Iran is a “tiny” country ad
    — Obama would rather go to the gym than visit the troops ad
    — McCain is against lobbyists, yet has 159 lobbyists in his campaign.
    — Obama is responsible for the rising gas prices ad.

    Specific enough?

  5. Nancy Willing says:

    it’s still sex ed.
    *

No, it isn’t and only an idiot would defend against providing children with the basic tools of protecting themselves against predators.

  6. Geezer says:

“I think telling my kids about this stuff is my responsibility, not the school’s, particularly with kids so young. That doesn’t make me “pro-molester.”

Actually it does. The vast majority of molestation cases are within the family. And you think the family should be responsible for this teaching. Which means any child being molested by a parent is not going to be taught this by the parent. In short, it’s a more complex problem than your tiny brain can handle, so you insist it’s simple instead. This is the mark of a moron.

Stupidity like yours is what results when you approach problems with your solution already in hand.

  7. Sharon says:

Let’s see… First, the Kindergarten ad was deliberately misleading and nasty. The ad didn’t say “parents should warn their children against child predators”. So stop pretending it was reasonable.

To say something is “nasty” doesn’t make it untrue. Nor is the statement that Barack Obama supported sex ed throughout schools, including kindergarten age, is not a lie. What you are angry about is that Barack Obama’s opponent didn’t put in the context that would have made his position look better. How reasonable is that to expect?

Obama will raise taxes on the middle class

This is debatable. If Barack Obama wants to do all the things he has promised, he cannot pay for that by raising taxes only on “the rich.” There are plenty of economists who have already made this argument.

    – Iran is a “tiny” country ad

Here again, this is not a lie, anymore than the ad you have running at the top of the page atm (that McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are sound) is a lie. Obama did say that Iran was a tiny country and that “these countries” are no threat to us . Oh, and the Soviet Union was much bigger.

    – Obama would rather go to the gym than visit the troops ad

Obama had the opportunity to visit troops in Germany but decided not to do so when he couldn’t take in the people he wanted to. Again, it’s just a fact. People saw it. They saw him go to the gym. You can tell yourself that he didn’t want to go to the gym instead of going to see soldiers but, in fact, that’s what he did.

    – McCain is against lobbyists, yet has 159 lobbyists in his campaign.

Eh, this is more questionable. McCain has fought a lot of lobbying interests over the years, which is why he has that reputation. And seriously, having lobbyists on his campaign is just a normal part of politics. I mean, Obama has taken far more money from those money interests (see the pullout quote I gave yesterday) than John McCain has. But if you want to consider this a lie, then go nuts.

    – Obama is responsible for the rising gas prices ad.

Did Obama vote for drilling in the U.S., a policy supported by the vast majority of the American people? No. His party–your party–has steadfastly refused for months to even consider drilling, which means they don’t mind the price of gasoline being high. Hell, even Obama said that he only disapproved of the way gas prices got to where they were, not the fact that they were high. It’s hard to run away from your party’s policies when you’ve never voted against them.

No, it isn’t and only an idiot would defend against providing children with the basic tools of protecting themselves against predators.

Yes, it is, Nancy, because that’s what that education was being called. And Barack Obama voted for it. Now, he could respond and say, “Oh, I don’t want to teach 5-year-olds the birds and the bees and how to put condoms on bananas.” And that would be truthful. But nonetheless, he voted for sex ed…for 5-year-olds.

    Actually it does.

This is the first true lie on this entire post and thread. You know nothing about me and to say that I think parents should be the ones who talk to their kids about molesters makes me pro-molester actually is a lie.

I posed my question because I was looking for information on the “McCain is a liar” meme the Left is putting out. What you’ve given me confirmed my own thoughts: you guys have a candidate who is so weak that the only way he can win is by smearing his opponent as a liar. This is certainly not the “different politics” I had expected from Obama. But then, I never believed he was a different politician in the first place.

  8. cassandra m says:

Good grief. Documenting the McCain lies is a cottage industry by now — Andrew Sullivan, Josh Marshall, even the DNC has a list of the officially debunked lies of the McCain camp.

And the only way you can find to attempt to parry that is to just create more lies. Did I just see you defending religion someplace?

  9. pandora says:

Sharon, what a load of crap.

Obama has not called McCain a liar, the media (left, right and center) are calling McCain a liar.

What you have stated here is your opinion. I’ve listed examples where the media, including FOX and factcheck.org, has called McCain out for lying.

    Your spin is wearing thin.

  10. delawaredem says:

She is now just a Republican wingnut liar. Sharon has lost all credibility.

  11. Geezer says:

    “You know nothing about me”

All I know is what you write.

“and to say that I think parents should be the ones who talk to their kids about molesters makes me pro-molester actually is a lie.”

No it’s not. It’s a logical extension of your position. Your lack of intelligence or ability to follow an argument is not my problem, it’s yours. Try addressing my point instead of calling on your faux outrage.

You might also try noticing that my statement is no more a “lie” than any of the points you are defending as “not lies.”

You are as clumsy as you are stupid.

  12. Geezer says:

    “Sharon has lost all credibility.”

    When did she have any?

  13. Truth teller says:

Gee according to the trolls here it seems that Police Departments are also bad because they have programs that they present to k1 children that alerts them to be aware of child molesters.
it’s this type of thinking that aided and abetted Sarah’s daughter to get pregnant at 17years old.
