Republicans Nervous About Palin

Filed in National by on August 30, 2008

She was mayor of a small town 20 months ago, and if McCain/Palin somehow won she could be the president in 6 months. That math has Republicans like Ramesh Ponnuru, “one of the smartest guys writing on the National Review’s Corner” very worried.

So is the macho bluster that you read from Republicans on this site is not typical of the GOP’s reaction to Pailin ?Political Buzz reports that it is not:

Ambinder has some fresh reaction to McCain’s running mate choice from a few very concerned Republican strategists and insiders. These are no doubt very wise folks, because they express the doubts that make Palin a colossal gamble and a likely mistake that will haunt McCain for the rest of the campaign.

A few are cautiously optimistic that it’ll turn out OK, but most of the strategists and consultants I’ve spoken to, e-mailed with, or read/watched are struggling with it. They expect her to have a good week… and then to crash and burn when she hits the campaign trail as scrutiny catches up with her.
Some of these strategists are close to those Republicans who were vetted but not picked, but many of them aren’t. “It’s like playing poker blind,” one strategist said. Another e-mailed: “Obama’s lack of readiness was THE only way to win.” When these Republicans ask the McCain campaign for guidance, all they hear back is: “She’s more experienced than Obama is.”

Don’t try to gauge the success of the pick y listening to the conservative talking heads or reading the like-minded commentators. They all love it and will proclaim that McCain is now invincible for having bowed to the Right’s collective will. Too bad they don’t exist in reality…

My Republican friends are shocked by McCain’s VP pick, and swear he’s just lost the election. What was he thinking? He just changed his entire campaign platform. The experience issue may not have worked in a Dem Primary, but they’re convinced it’s what was making the general election so close.

  2. DPN says:

Celtic Diva is reporting that the McCain camp is sending someone to investigate Palin’s Troopergate.

What bothers me most about McCain’s selection is that it lacked good judgment. McCain talked to Palin once, back in February, and, now all of a sudden, the McCain camp realizes that there is a scandal brewing.

  3. jason330 says:

It certain puts McCains judgement and competence into question.

  4. DPN says:

Read all about Troopergate. If true Palin would make a great Vice President in the mold of Dick Cheney.

  5. jason330 says:

BTW – I’m loving the feeding frenzy. it is as if Democrats (at last) are playing by the new rules of American politics.

  6. pandora says:

Hey, if McCain wanted a buzz… he’s got it.

  7. DPN says:

: warning lame football analogy :

Well, McCain threw a Hail Mary pass. Not only wasn’t it caught, it was intercepted and returned for a touchdown!

  8. jason330 says:

If you like to laugh, read Hube’s post on how this Palin pick is going to shake out.

Comedy GOLD, but I don’t want to give away the punch line.

  9. Jadegold says:

    You heard it here first.

Bold prediction: Palin will be forced to withdraw her name from the ticket. I think a very nervous GOP is going to give her the Harriet Miers treatment.

  10. jason330 says:

The Palin pick does not have the hallmarks of a very well thought out move, but it might be even worse for McCain to balk.

  11. John Feroce says:

Newsweek, Politico and now….drum roll please…DE Liberal all repeating the same lie.

“She was mayor of a small town 20 months ago, and if McCain/Palin somehow won she could be the president in 6 months. ”

She was Mayor from 1996 to 2002. That’s SIX YEARS ago, not 20 months!

Since then she has been an Ethics Commissioner and Governor!

BTW, who’s the only person out of the four who is a Commander-n-Chief? She has much more military experience than Obama, so it’s ridiculous for anyone to suggest she’s not fit to be President.

  12. pandora says:

Keep telling yourself that, John. 🙂

I was really nervous about who McCain would pick as VP. I thought he was going to hammer home the “experience” card. Silly me. I mean, why would he stick with the one issue he built his entire campaign around?

  13. jason330 says:

    John,

By your logic, Ruth Ann Minner has “military experience.”

The full blown freak-out that you guys are in is very entertaining for me, I must say.

  14. mike says:

John, I think he meant that up until 20 months ago, when she was elected Governor, her highest elected post was Mayor (of a smallish town).

I don’t think the experience argument is a good one to make on Gov. Palin’s behalf. Alaska had an estimated 2006 population of 670,053 in 2006. Delaware’s estimated population for that year was 853,476 (US Census). Of course, she’s not up against Gov. Minner in this race; she’s facing Joe Biden, whose extensive experience is in foreign policy and in the US Senate.

  15. Benjamin says:

    Right, John. We stand corrected.

The potential VP of the USA was a board commissionner 18 months ago.
Makes me feel SO MUCH better.

I love tht in the PEOPLE interview, McCain responds the experience question by saying “Well, she was running for City Council in 1992. That’s 16 years ago !”. Damn right, John. Damn right.

And guys, even if you want to believe she is more experienced, bottom line is the CiC treshold is mental. Americans know Obama and have heard him talk about national security for two years now. Even people who think his experience is too thin would feel safer with him as Cic than with her. Period.

At first I was upset he had picked her but the more I see conservatives crumbling and the dirty details coming up (HE HAD MET HER ONLY ONCE BEFORE !) the more I am LOVING this

  16. Benjamin says:

    Oh and another thing.
Democrats spent the last month worrying about the polls that were tightening.

Let me put it to you this way. Does the Palin pick indicate to you that McCain is confident about his chances ? If his internal polls were showing him tied, would he really take that risk ?
His numbers must be REALLY bad that they panicked like that – or “took a risk” if you want to be gracious.

  17. John Feroce says:

“By your logic, Ruth Ann Minner has “military experience.””

    She does.

  18. Joe M says:

This is incredible. First, seeing all the people who were anti-McCain until he won the nomination, and now seeing the same folks scramble to spin Sarah Palin into a good VP pick.

Sorry, guys, that will take so much spin that it will turn the earth into a fucking quasar.

  19. Stella Bluez says:

People don’t seem to realize that governing Alaska is not quite the same as governing most other states. Alaska few money issues….they have oil & gas dollars, Alaska has no huge urban areas with all the challenges that brings….population of under 700,000 statewide…..

I’m not saying it was easy, but it ain’t what the rest of the country has to deal with….

  20. Linoge says:

Just like you all were complaining that no matter who or how many people there were who were going to vote for Hillary and are now going to vote for McCain, one or more of them always found a way to be on TV during the DNC, it is no surprise to me that you have found Republican/conservative analysts who are surprised/confused/concerned about this choice. The only appropriate response is Lincoln’s famous quote, only do s/fool/please – it is equally poignant.

Time will tell and the election will be the true metric… Need I point out some of the “dirty details” that have come up about some of your candidates before November 2nd… and they still moved on to win?

  21. Benjamin says:

    Stella.

The Alaska legislature sits only 60 days a year. They have so little things to do 🙂

And frankly I am astounded at how delusional the conservative commenters are. I am glad you are excited she is very conservative. But if you don’t see the potential problems here, then you are even more unfit to be in power than I thought u were.

  22. DPN says:

Joe M wrote: . . . .and now seeing the same folks scramble to spin Sarah Palin into a good VP pick.

Sorry, guys, that will take so much spin that it will turn the earth into a fucking quasar.

    Great line.

  23. Jadegold says:

The only appropriate response is Lincoln’s famous quote, only do s/fool/please – it is equally poignant.

I wonder what this means in English.

Look, the fact is most conservative commenters are really finding it difficult to get motivated by Palin being on the ticket.

My prediction stands; I see Palin having a fairly easy time of it for about 2 weeks–then as her visibility increases, she is really going to look out of her depth. At which point, the RNC will strongly suggest she spend more time with the family. Look for Mittens to make an encore.

  24. Bob Cooper says:

Once again, Republicans are being disingenuous. Experience as a governor is NOT experience as commander-in-chief, that notion is laughable. Governors can call out the National Guard, but they are not the commanders-in-chief of the National Guard, the president retains that power.

More importantly, on the overall experience issue, the experience of a US Senator, who is truly on the national stage is vastly more nuanced and sophisticated than the provincial experience of a governor, especially one that is so dramatically removed from most other states, such as Alaska.

Also, Alaska is a unique state –it is more like a Middle East emirate because essentially everything is paid for by oil money. The GOP’s right wing love to talk about how Harry Reid is out of touch because he represents Nevada, where gambling foots all the state bills. But Alaska is even more of an oddity –Gov. Palin is cleary so far out of the mainstream in politics that any suggestion that her experience is germain is simply not accurate.

This does call into questions McCain’s judgement because he is essentially saying Gov. Palin is more qualified to be the President of the United States than other governors, such as Tom Ridge or Mitt Romney. Is Ms. Palin more qualified than Sonny Perdue or Georgia or Charlie Crist of Forida? Of course not.

Oh, and by the way, Hillary Clinton’s 18-million cracks in the glass ceiling was for PRESIDENT. Ms. Palin has managed to repair a lot of those cracks with her nomination –she has essentially lowered the glass ceiling.

So, what was going through McCain’s mind?

It shows his, and the GOP’s, contempt for women voters. Their notion is a former beauty queen who has quirkily risen to the top of a marginal state is somehow as good as Hillary Clinton, an incredibly accomplished woman leader.

Ms. Palin is a right winger who may appeal to the red meat eaters on the GOP Right Fringe. In the end, Democratic women, progressive women and independent women will not fall for this pathetic ploy.

  25. FSP says:

“Hillary Clinton, an incredibly accomplished woman leader.”

How’s that? Other than getting 18 million Democratic votes for President, a number that Palin will shatter as part of the GOP ticket, how is HRC “accomplished?”

    “vastly more nuanced and sophisticated”

    John Kerry agrees.

  26. Benjamin says:

You know that Sarah Palin is doomed when Dave Burris is into her.

  27. jason330 says:

No link Dave? I bet there is a world of meaning being obscured in what you left out.

  28. Benjamin says:

My favorite quote from a Clintonista “I ain’t voting for Miss Congeniality just because I can’t vote for Miss Universe”

  29. DPN says:

FSP is playing both sides of the coin right now.

He writes on his blog: McCain gets points for shaking things up by choosing a woman. He just might have chose the wrong one, in my opinion.

  30. Benjamin says:

You see, this is what is wrong with politics today. If Burris is smart enough to know it, why not take advantage of the situation to come here and have a discussion where he agrees with us – from the other side ?
Why immediatly snark against us if he agrees ? I know you guys hate the Delaware Way but that instinctive partisanship really turns people off too.

  31. FSP says:

I know The Bubble is designed to be a frictionless environment, but I like to drop a little reality on you when I can.

Plus, you’ll quickly find that I don’t agree with you quite like you think I do.

  32. pandora says:

I’m also sensing that you don’t disagree with us quite like you’d like us to think you do.

  33. Sagacious Steve says:

Here’s why EVERYONE should be nervous about Sarah Palin. While Andrea Mitchell, with a straight face no less (though perhaps that is Botox-related), asked guest after guest if Obama needed to worry about female suburban voters in Montgomery County, she neglected to mention the following:

Palin supports teaching creation science; she opposes choice in ALL cases, including rape, incest and the health of the mother; she is suing EPA to remove polar bears from the endangered species list; she doesn’t believe that global warming is in any way caused by humans; she hasn’t yet spent any time thinking about Iraq even though her son is being deployed there; and she joined the Pat Buchanan pitchfork brigade AFTER he talked about taking back San Francisco block-by-block in 2000.

Even by the most wingnuttian of Rethug standards, she’s a wingnut. The Rethugs are trying to pawn her off as an enlightened choice, but she was really chosen to bring the evangelical drones back home.

If the D’s don’t accurately brand her for what she is, they will deserve to lose this election, and I don’t expect that to happen.

  34. FSP says:

“I’m also sensing that you don’t disagree with us quite like you’d like us to think you do.”

I’ve lost what it is I’m supposed to be agreeing with. Can you remind me?

  35. mike w. says:

“Once again, Republicans are being disingenuous. Experience as a governor is NOT experience as commander-in-chief, that notion is laughable.”

And “experience” in the Illinois State Senate is somehow more applicable to being commander-in-chief? Now THAT is laughable.

  36. John Feroce says:

“Once again, Republicans are being disingenuous. Experience as a governor is NOT experience as commander-in-chief, that notion is laughable. Governors can call out the National Guard, but they are not the commanders-in-chief of the National Guard, the president retains that power.”

What? They belong to the state unless we exercise Title X authority and federalize them (i.e support for the war efforts or Katrina etc)

The two star General in charge of the Guard in that state reports to the Governor!

  37. Unstable Isotope says:

McCain fundamentally changed the election. He had been making it about Obama, on his experience. Now, we are talking about McCain’s judgment. If the election is not about Obama’s experience, John McCain loses.

More and more, it’s looking like McCain made a panic pick. He had only met her once and he hadn’t even vetted her (apparently the McCain camp is just now investigating troopergate). Also, McCain looks a bit impotent, because it’s being reported that Lieberman was his first choice, but it was vetoed by Karl Rove.

I know Palin is a darling of the religious right, but she’s far out of the mainstream. She opposes abortion under all circumstances and birth control for married couples. The Palin pick also puts the culture war front and center.

I think Obama and Biden are doing the right thing by staying out of it and letting the media dig around. All they have to say is that they disagree strongly with her views.

  38. pandora says:

Reminder: FSP is playing both sides of the coin right now.

He writes on his blog: McCain gets points for shaking things up by choosing a woman. He just might have chose the wrong one, in my opinion.

  39. FSP says:

How am I playing both sides of the coin?

  40. Jason O'Neill says:

FACT: Gov Sarah Palin is ALREADY a Commander-in-Chief. Barack and Biden cannot claim this on their resume.

FACT: Gov Sarah Palin has 12 years of running a government. First as mayor of Wassila, Alaska, and then Governor of Alaska. Barack and Biden cannot claim executive experience on their resume.

FACT: Governor Sarah Palin has a proven record of being a reformer. Senator Joe Biden has a 36-year record of being a bureauocrat.

Republicans are not nervous of Sarah Palin. WE ARE ABSOLUTELY THRILLED!

Democrats should be the ones nervous, because Sarah Palin does more for John McCain than Joe Biden does for Barack Obama. Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination running on change, and he picked a 6-term Senator and Washington insider to be his running running mate.

I hope Joe Biden is wearing loafers for the VP debate. That way it way it will be easier for him to put his foot in his mouth!

  41. Von Cracker says:

The Commander in Chief line is a joke and you know it, even when it’s regarding POTUS.

Presidents and Governors take recommendations from the people they place around them, for they do not have enough hours in the day to become a real-time strategic and tactical expert on all things, all the time…

So what it really comes down to is Judgment…judgment in choosing outstanding advisers, be it Military Heads, Sec of State, and, of course VP.

And it appears Mr. O’neill does not know the difference between a bureaucrat and a politician. But I for one truly appreciates Mr. O’neill’s heartfelt concern for welfare of the Obama/Biden ticket going forward!

  42. John Feroce says:

“Presidents and Governors take recommendations from the people they place around them, for they do not have enough hours in the day to become a real-time strategic and tactical expert on all things, all the time…”

Except for Obama and Biden who would have dismissed the recommendations of the Commanders on the ground…like some guy named Petraeus.

  43. Von Cracker says:

    Bullshit.

  44. John Feroce says:

    “Bullshit.”

Bullshit what? They voted against it, thus dismissed his recommendations.

  45. Von Cracker says:

    No, it’s argument in general.

They believe, as well do I, that no matter what we do to or for Iraq, unless American troops are there in force, Iraq will eventually fall apart.

Their thinking, to put it in simple parlance, is: Why throw young lives and good money into a big, steaming shitpile of a powder keg when our resources can be used for something appropriate and better?

  46. mike w. says:

In other words, don’t listen to the generals on the ground, just give up instead

  47. anon says:

jade: they are looking for a way to get her out of the race! She may just resign!

Wonder if Rush will call her a “feminazi”, she belongs to that rightwing “feminists for life” org!

Maybe the republicans will put someone else name in for nomination for VP? Like Mitt, or Ridge that would be the only event that would make anyone watch yet another ever duller convention.

  48. anon says:

Feroce: catch up…Petraeus is going to be made Nato Commander….he is moving into position for NATO to attack the next most vulnerable soverign nation who just happens to have oil under their feet. Petraeus and the surge is a joke. Petraeus spent millions of dollars buying off the Sunni…it wasnt a military victory it was nother bleeping bribe.

  49. anon says:

#36 Feroce when was the last time a Governor called out the Guard…I believe when Katrina hit, there was no guard to call out…Bushie sent them to fight in an illegal war.

As we speak New Orleans is about to get hit again, all they have is 1500 Guardsmen, why cuz there in Iraq, Afganistan, Georgia, South America, Europe….scattered to the four corners of the earth, instead of being here to protect our state. The guard arguement doesn’t fly in the face of the facts under the bush/cheney regime.

Lets put Failin’s edumacation up against Obamas. Falin a BA (4 years of college), against Obama a straight A student the top of his class and the Harvard Review ( most prestigious )!

McCain a c and d student who couldnt make Admiral even after his stint in Viet nam and the POW camp. Why? Because he simply is not that smart. Do we really want another c, d student running the country! Think of what is best for the country, not what is best for your party.

  50. anon says:

#11. Guess her ethics committee stint didn’t stick. As Governor she went after her sisters ex husband, “Trooper gate”. 87% of Alaskans do not believe she told the truth.

Alaska is filled with corruption, while she claims to have been against the “bridge to nowhere”, and Ted Stevens-gate, she wants to take credit for “cleaning up corruption”. Lets see if she can work her way out of troopergate.

  51. Why don’t you check the code before you speak, The commander in chief of the national guard is the governor unless they are federalized. Remember, Bill Clinton made that statement in 1992 when comparing himself with the elder Bush.

  52. cassandra m says:

Go back and look at Jason O’Neill’s post everybody — anything familiar about this argument?

This is the same argument these same people made for George W Bush — after he failed at a few businesses, gathered up his tax subsidies as owner of the Rangers, and served as one of the weakest governors in the nation.

The real wingnuts are certainly happy — this woman is George W Bush in a dress and expect a few months of fluffing up whatever experience there is, downplaying the lack of credentials and working hard at making her into someone you want to have a beer with.

We’ve seen this before and we know what we got for it.

  53. I think it is wacky that they degrade the fact that she was mayor and exalt the fact that he was a state senator. She hadn’t been a mayor for 6 years. She has had other important posts including governor.

It is nothing less than stereotyping. Don’t let the bimbo beauty queen near the Presidency. Women aren’t up to it. It is below the dignity of the Democratic Party.

  54. cassandra m says:

Except for Obama and Biden who would have dismissed the recommendations of the Commanders on the ground…like some guy named Petraeus.

And can you peddle this bullshit with people who don’t know better? Every person in the military is accountable to their civilian oversight — and if that civilian oversight changes policy then the military guys get to execute that.

This is true everyplace — the people in charge get to set direction for those who work for them to carry out. And while no one dismisses Petreaus, it is certainly fair for legislators to advocate for and insist on new policy. And I’ll note here that the Obama and Biden policy of timelines to exit Iraq are now endorsed not just by the Iraqi PM, but by BushCo too.

  55. Pandora is wacked. She supports Obama for President and complains that a VP candidate doesn’t have as much experience as she likes.

Not only does Gov. Palin have more executive and business experience than anyone on both of the tickets, she didn’t go around abstaining and cozing up to rich special interests to help her buy her home like Senator Obama. To top that off, she is not the one running for President.

Everytime you talk about Gov. Palin that way, you remind people about Senator Obama. We are not choosing between Biden and Palin, we are choosing between McCain and Obama.

  56. cassandra m says:

She was mayor of a city that is smaller than my college. It was a part time job — I’ve been to this city too.

But perhaps you have not been paying attention — we are saying that this woman — Palin– isn’t up to it.

  57. The verdict of Republicans is excitement. It is the first time Republicans think they can win the election. The base is finally engaged. McCain has refurbished his reform credentials. The party has new image.

    This choice is golden.

  58. Cassandra, you gain real governing experience at the city council and mayorial level like you don’t gain else where. It is a valuable crucible.

Now let’s get serious. Did you miss the fact that she has done more in life than be mayor. Did you notice that she wasn’t Mayor Palin?

This is a woman who took on the entire power establishment of her state and won.

I sort of remember another small town guy who became a small state governor. He didn’t do so bad according to you guys, his name is Bill Clinton. Sarah will have the benefit of being mentored by McCain and his advisors. She will be almost unbeatable in her turn for the Presidency. That is what scares you.

  59. cassandra_m says:

The people who are scared here are people with Rs on their voting cards.

The woman is GWB in a dress. And last I looked about 26% of you wanted him back.

  60. mike w. says:

“The woman is GWB in a dress. And last I looked about 26% of you wanted him back.”

Where the hell do you people come up with stuff like this?

“87% of Alaskans do not believe she told the truth.”

Yes, and she also has a nearly 90% approval rating (the highest of any governor in the country)

  61. meatball says:

Actually, Mike her approval rating is 60% and falling. Still respectable, but falling. News travels slow in the great white north.

  62. mike w. says:

    Care to cite that Meatball?

Here’s an article discussing her 90% approval rating in 2007

    http://weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/013/851orcjq.asp?pg=1

“She is now the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state.”

As of a month ago it was still in the high 80% range.

    http://www.haysresearch.com/oc072508.htm

Apparently the slow moving “news” you speak of doesn’t exist.

  63. You are both right. The approval rating is in the mid 60’s but the disapproval is quite small. The made up brother in law trooper firing scandal hurt her temporarily. It turned out that the guy was a spouse abuser who should have been fired.

The establishment hates her. She exposed them and brought them down. They would do anything to stop her. They failed. She is the second most popular governor in America.

  64. cassandra_m says:

David Anderson consistently demonstrates that there is nothing that his party can ask him to believe that he could be embarrassed by.

Troopergate is about as made up as Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff’s abuse of power investigations. The ex-husband my have been a real problem, but there isn’t a government organization in the US that doesn’t have due process for getting rid of employees with issues.

And the Alaska establishment doesn’t hate her enough not to help her get to be Governor — Ted Stevens endorsed her in a video that was scrubbed from Palin’s Wikipedia entry. But it is still up on You Tube.

  65. Von Cracker says:

That not what I said, Mike.

Stop trying to be clever; it ain’t working.

  66. JohnnyX says:

I have some “man on the street” observations regarding the election. This is based solely upon conversations overheard (okay, eavesdropped on, but it’s not like they made any effort to speak softly) by my wife and myself tonight while dining at a certain mexican restaurant in Bear that shares its name with a popular brand of hot sauce.

The crowd at the next table over consisted of a middle-aged husband and wife, their son who was probably late teens or maybe early 20s, and two older women who I took to most likely be the two grandmothers. They were all white and from the way they dressed / cars they drove (we ended up leaving around the same time) I would describe them as middle class.

I accidentally hit submit and may not be able to type this all in 5 mins so see below.

  67. JohnnyX says:

Here is what I gathered from their conversation:

    1. They perceive McCain to be older than he is. The middle aged man said at least twice that he was “74” which is two years older than reality.

    2. The middle aged man said he felt McCain was hypocritical for criticizing Obama’s experience and then picking Palin as a VP, and expressed major trepidation that someone who was that old (granted he was thinking two years older than McCain really is) would choose such a person as VP.

    4. The middle aged woman said she thought McCain only picked Palin to try to get votes from disgruntled Hillary supporters but that Palin’s positions were opposite to her own so she wouldn’t vote for her / McCain. She expressed doubts that anyone who voted for Hillary on any basis other than just because she’s a woman would be wooed by Palin’s presence.

    5. The two older women generally agreed that Palin was nice looking and well spoken but that they didn’t feel she was a responsible pick, particularly given McCain’s age and history of cancer. One of them (who was probably 5 years younger than McCain tops) said “let’s face it, McCain is old.” One of them called Palin “sharp” to which the middle aged man said “she’s sharp, but she’s no VP.” Everyone at the table nodded in agreement.

    6. One of the older women said something like “if I was a Republican, I would just want to give up now.” That may not be an exact transcription but it’s pretty close.

So again, this is only one family that I happened to eavesdrop upon (again, not like I had a choice, they were right next to us and speaking loudly). And granted at least one of the older women apparently did not see herself as a Republican. So take it for what it’s worth. I would note, however, that the middle aged man and the older women gave me more of an independent than a democratic vibe. I got a definite vibe that the middle aged woman was a former Hillary supporter. Anyway, at least know that many of the same thoughts expressed by some in the blogosphere do appear to be present in “normal” everyday voters as well.

  68. Brubaker says:

    DREEEEEAM…DREAM, DREAM, DREAM.

    1. There are no Republicans in Bear.

    2. If there were, none would eat at any Mexican restaurants.

    3. You probably thought Kerry would win.

  69. JohnnyX says:

    1. I didn’t say that they were Republicans, douchebag, I said that one older woman made a comment specifically prefaced by “If I were a Republican.” I got the impression that they were democrats / independents.

    2. What, in addition to being wannabe fascists, Republicans also fail to appreciate good food? All the more reason you’re a bunch of gobshites.

    3. To be honest, no, I did not think Kerry would win and was not at all enthused about him, I just voted for him because he wasn’t Bush.

Please crawl back into your hole and shut the fuck up now, k?

    1. Even more irrelevant than your fantasy, tampon.

  71. John Feroce says:

“Feroce: catch up…Petraeus is going to be made Nato Commander….he is moving into position for NATO to attack the next most vulnerable soverign nation who just happens to have oil under their feet. ”

I feel like I’m attending a bad school when I come here some times. It’s as if grades one through 12 are all in the same class.

If you want to sound cool dickhead, then get your facts straight. Petraeus was named the Commander of CENTCOM.

Too tired to link now. Up all night preserving humanity. Perhaps tomorrow. Check your stats, your link quotes 2007 numbers and time marches on.

    David A.,
This abuse of power thing should have legs. I suppose Mrs. Palin’s BOL is the only trooper in the state to commit alleged spouse abuse (in a state with one of (if not the) highest levels of alcoholism in the Union?

There is plenty of incriminating audio out there if the liberal media will play it.

    Nighty, nite.

  73. Damage says:

Hilarious commentary! The people that are nervous about Palin are Obama and his campaign, the media whores in the MSM, the political whores of the Democrap party and their dimwitted liberal followers. Sarah Palin is the real deal and it’s killing all of you socialists that thought you had things locked up. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…
