It's a decent OS, but there's always one or two piddling little things that I have to spend time fixing before I can use it as a desktop. Wireless LAN, mp3 support, syncing my ipod, etc. Until that can all get done without any intervention by the user, Ubuntu is simply not ready for the mass market. I have. I've run several linux boxes and administer debian box at work, and I have no complaints about it. In fact, my old laptop is going to be a linux fileserver once I feel lie going through the pain of getting it installed and working properly.
