Double Hearsay: It’s Biden.

From Matt Stoller:
A friend of a friend overheard a phone conversation between Biden and Obama staffers making plans for Biden, his wife and his son to be in Springfield on Saturday.
Hmmm….but Biden has 2 sons and a daughter, not just one son.
And Steve Clemons of the Washington Note says it is Biden, and says some great things about Jill Biden.

You take Beau, since he is being deployed. Great decoration.
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:16 pm:
If Obama is “The One,” does that make Biden “The Two?”
“The Other One?”
“The Deuce?”
Comment by nemski on 22 August 2008 at 5:17 pm:
“The Sidekick”
Kind of like DeNiro and Grodin.
Comment by Stella Bluez on 22 August 2008 at 5:18 pm:
Unless your are Jean Luc Picard……
then Biden would be his “Number One”….

“The Second Coming”
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:20 pm:
DD – Shut up. I’ve been here longer than you have. And I make far fewer mistakes.
Comment by delawaredem on 22 August 2008 at 5:20 pm:
Hey Dave, only McCain says that.
Comment by liberalgeek on 22 August 2008 at 5:20 pm:
Perhaps the better question is what will we call Mitt when he is McCains pick?
Comment by liberalgeek on 22 August 2008 at 5:21 pm:
But when Dave makes a mistake, it’s a doozy.
Comment by delawaredem on 22 August 2008 at 5:21 pm:
Woops, went to edit and deleted my comment. Dave, I didn’t mean to say you leave, just shut up with the McCain talking points.
“The One.” Only elderly elitist McCain has said that.
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:23 pm:
That’s right. I don’t mess around with my mistakes. They become legend.
Comment by delawaredem on 22 August 2008 at 5:23 pm:
Boy, Burris almost has as bad a temper as McCain.

Who wants to see a Biden/Romney debate ?
Seriously ? I CANNOT WAIT
Comment by DPN (tpfka nemski) on 22 August 2008 at 5:24 pm:
Damn it. I’m outside on the deck with a beer and cigar, but I left my phone upstairs.
Questions: How lazy is DPN? Will he got get his phone or will he just surf the net?

“Who wants to see a Biden/Romney debate ?”
…Biden begins to answer first question…fast forward…Biden concludes first answer.

I wish we could spy on the telephone calls of these guys…
oh wait
I bet the white house knows already
Comment by Joe M on 22 August 2008 at 5:32 pm:
Wow, CNN is saying that Clinton was never vetted.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:34 pm:
Well the only way for Mitt Romney to win a debate is if he indeed does not get to speak at all. You got THAT right.
Besides, by the time Biden will finish, Romney will have changed his mind about the issue four or five times anyway so it is for the best
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:34 pm:
Is it safe to say the Hillary folks aren’t over it?
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:35 pm:
That’s yet another reason I dont understand the wait. Since it is all filler, they have plenty of time to rehash what we already know about Hill not being vetted and what purpose that serves exactly besides reopening old wounds, I dont know.
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:36 pm:
I’m perfectly happy to have Romney debate Biden. If he can’t beat Obama, Edwards, Clinton and Richardson….
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:36 pm:
Is it safe to say there are a few hundred Hillary folks that are batshit crazy ?
Yeah. It is.

Drinking out of my dogfish head pint glass – all for the Delaware glory today…
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:36 pm:
Well Romney could not beat Huckabee.
Enough said.
Who by the way is not over it either
I cant wait for his bitching if McCain picks Mittens
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:38 pm:
“Well Romney could not beat Huckabee.
Enough said.”
In what world did Romney not beat Huckabee?
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:40 pm:
“Is it safe to say there are a few hundred Hillary folks that are batshit crazy ?”
“Philip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania.”
Sounds pretty legit to me…
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 5:40 pm:
Is it just me, or do you REALLY wish the Olympics were off of MSNBC right now…
… am I the only one who sort of forgot they were even still going on?
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:40 pm:
Huckabee got more delegates, didn’t he ?
And more votes (although that’s function of staying in the race longer so I wont use that kind of Clintonesque argument).
Oh and more narrowly, on debates, do I need to go back and find you the reviews of the primary debates ? Coz I dont think there was one where Romney was deemed to have been good and not one where Huckabee – deep moron as he is – was deemed to have been bad.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:42 pm:
Of course it sounds legit to you.
Threatening random people with “FBI subpoenas” for whatever BS is apparently OK in your book so your criteria of sanity are a little screwed up.
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 5:42 pm:
“Huckabee got more delegates, didn’t he ?”
When Romney backed out, he was beating Huckabee soundly in delegates. Just because Huckabee stayed in after the conclusion was foretold doesn’t mean he beat Romney.
Comment by Dorian Gray on 22 August 2008 at 5:44 pm:
Are you two really arguing about who finished 2nd and 3rd in the GOP primary? Wow that’s lame!
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 5:45 pm:
Romney is the greatest business mind of his generation..
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:49 pm:
You are right. My bad. Romney is a winner of a candidate. I am afraid McCain will choose him as VP because he is an unstoppable political machine that will crush Biden in the debates.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:50 pm:

You can admit you’re wrong without being an ass about it.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:51 pm:
It is BIDEN !
There is a flight between Newcastle DE and Chicago starting now.
OBAMA BIDEN 08!
(per Ambinder)
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 5:56 pm:
Oh and FSP
I concur with your argument but I don’t think anyone looking back at the primaries would conclude Romney was more successful than Huckabee. But hey, you know, as I said, McCain-Romney is such a winning ticket I would be remiss not to be terrified by it.
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 5:56 pm:

Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:08 pm:
Frankly I am annoyed at them now.
Why the fuck wait so long, especially since it is gonna be the guy everyone said it was gonna be ?
I dont know what the hell their strategy is but I am irritated to be wasting so much time .
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 6:09 pm:
Are they waiting in order to drive up the intensity with the idea of getting as much text and email info as possible?
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:12 pm:
Well presumably that was the idea but frankly I dont think they are going to get more phone numbers by waiting until afetr the evening news.
I mean those who are dying to know have signed up days ago.
And while I may understand burying Bayh in a weekend, Biden is well-liked by journalists. So while postponing it to take advantage of the house issue is fine, waiting until late today is just plain mean
Comment by DPN (tpfka nemski) on 22 August 2008 at 6:22 pm:
From the NJ:
• 5:15 p.m. — Biden still hasn’t emerged. The watch continues.
Comment by Graniaclewbay on 22 August 2008 at 6:23 pm:
Drudge is reporting BAYH. Saying the printing company has bumperstickers done…..You guys are gonna lose if it’s that dullard
Comment by jason330 on 22 August 2008 at 6:24 pm:
You got that right.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:26 pm:
I choose to focus on the charter flight more.
Please no Bayh. Please no Bayh. After the awesome past thirty six hours it would be SUCH a letdown.
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 6:26 pm:
Are you kidding me? BAYH? Out of all of them… that’s the worst…
Comment by FSP on 22 August 2008 at 6:32 pm:
I saw the stickers on Ambinder. They’re too ugly to be real.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:34 pm:
It seems it is BAyh.
Obamabayh.com started redirecting to a profile of Evan Bayh on barackobama.com for a few minutes before they pulled it down.
Urgh urgh urgh
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 6:35 pm:
I’m with you Dave – that looks like some amateur stuff.. That doesn’t have any of the aesthetic qualities that Obama’s campaign has been famous for this season.
Comment by Wilmington on 22 August 2008 at 6:39 pm:
Who the hell is Evan Bayh anyway?
Comment by delawaredem on 22 August 2008 at 6:40 pm:
It will not be Bayh. That is a cafe press job.
Comment by delaware's most underappreciated writer on 22 August 2008 at 6:40 pm:

now going on 3 minutes plus on the olympic age scandal…
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:41 pm:
what is cafepress ?
PS: If it is a headfake, one more reason TO FUCKING GET IT OVER WITH.
I am starting mightily freaking annoyed with them now.
Comment by pandora on 22 August 2008 at 6:46 pm:
I’m not sure this announcement is coming tonight. Geez, what a brilliant PR move. How long has this Obama VP watch gone on now? Effing brilliant!
BTW, Dave, I’ve spent the summer in Fenwick. If McCain picks Romney you guys have a BIG problem. I even defended Romney against such religious bigotry, but hey, I’m consistent.
Seriously, it was UGLY. The only Republican – out of approx. 35 – who would vote for a McCain/Romney ticket lives in Boston.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:47 pm:
Great relief : # That Obama-Bayh bumper sticker is (a) too ugly and (b) doesn’t have a union label. It ain’t real (Marc Ambinder)
I am glad you guys didnt fall for it coz i was that close to giving up and get upset. lol
another reason this is brilliant Pandora is that I know many people – me included – that were tepid for Biden at the beginning of the week but as they let the journalists make the case for why it made sense because they wanted to convince themselves they knew, it ended up, well, making sense for me too and I would be excited for Biden when you will remember I wasn’t a week ago.
Go figure.
Comment by Mike Matthews on 22 August 2008 at 6:49 pm:
My mother is telling me she thinks Obama should do it at 3 am. “Who do you want to answer the phone at 3 am?” Fuck that shit. If I get a text message at 3 am, he’s losing my vote!
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:50 pm:
Marc Ambinder says we can have dinner safely. It ain’t coming soon.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:54 pm:
Ponder: what impact does Obama-Biden have on Bill Lee and Charlie C. ?
Ponder further: does Obama-Biden makes it easier for on-the-fence voters to take a risk with Markell knowing Carney may have a fallback Senate seat to console himself with ?
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 6:54 pm:
Strange question. Has anyone of you ever read – and/or own- Celia Cohen’s history of DE politics ?
Comment by Mike Matthews on 22 August 2008 at 6:56 pm:
I have the book. I got through, like, two pages and had to put it down. I felt dirty.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 7:00 pm:

Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 7:04 pm:
Hardly a fresh choice but I can get behind that.
Comment by pandora on 22 August 2008 at 7:08 pm:
PLEASE… anyone but Bayh. Not that I won’t suck it up, but…
Comment by jason330 on 22 August 2008 at 7:09 pm:
Celia is covers the personalities not the stories.
She likes a corps of politicians who were taking over things around the same time she was coming into her own as a writer and so her ENTIRE output over the past 15 years has been about fluffing up the reputations of people that she thinks are a class of Olympians among us mortals.
For example, Mike Castle. For the past 8 years THE Mike Castle story is that he has sold out Delaware and the centerists voters that he claims to represent by voting with Bush 95% of the time.
How many stories (in eight years) did Cohen file about Castle’s pro-Bush neoCon voting record? Zero.
She stopped being a journalist 15 years before she stopped writing.
How many did she file about what a great guy Castle is? Hundreds.
Comment by Benjamin on 22 August 2008 at 7:24 pm:
Thanks jason. I knew she did that in her reporting, I wasnt sure she did the same thing in her book
