Bu$hCo keeps on enacting Obama-like policies, but somehow he’s still a defeatist, cut-n-runner, and all of this will be good for John McCain.

BTW – You can’t say the surge worked (past tense) if you still have more troops there than before it began.

Oh I’m sure this will be viewed as a glorious success for GOP style “kick ass and take names” diplomacy.

    Is this a timeline or a time-horizon?

They will try to claim success, but there is no doubt that this flip flop by BushCo now signing up to a real timeline leaves McCain and his warmongerers hanging in the wind.

Cassandra, I think you truly underestimate the power of spin.

Were I writing the response for John McCain it would go like this:

“In 1980 when Iran realized it was now going to be dealing with Ronald Reagan, not Jimmy Carter, the mullahs very quickly decided to release the American hostages. Knowing that John McCain remained steadfast and willing to keep faith with the Iraqi government–and is still willing to support them in any way necessary–is one reason they had the confidence to move forward with negotiations for standing on their own. Negotiating from strength, following the clear demonstration of American willpower during the Surge, has brought us to the point of victory in Iraq. This has occurred despite the positions of my opponent, who would have left the Iraqis under the brutal dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, and then would have have cut and run rather than demonstrating the judgment and strength necessary to secure victory.”

Call it Karl Rove or Dick Morris or even James Carville–a good PR flack/political consultant could and will sell this to millions of Americans.
