Breaking: Arkansas Dem Leader Killed.

Filed in National by on August 13, 2008

So they are killing Democrats now?    This comes on top of the killings last month at a progressive church, where the evil conservative killer said all liberals should die.    Since we do have a right to bear arms, it is time we liberals get our guns on.   You never know when a conservative is coming to kill you.

  1. I thought the right to bear arms was to fight tyranny?

    i’m so confused

  2. delawaredem says:

No, the lesson from these killings are that your political opposition must be killed lest they actually disagree with you.

  3. pandora says:

    JFK, MLK, and RFK.

    ’nuff said.

  4. Chris says:

Hmm. I guess I missed in the articles where they said the suspect was a republican..or otherwise conservative.

He may have been or he may not have been. But leave it to you to jump to conclusions. He supposedly said something about losing a job. Maybe he was a Democrat ticked off at his own party for costing him his job somehow.

  5. Chris says:

    >JFK, MLK, and RFK.

    Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley,

and lest we forget attempts on

    Ford and Reagan.

Seems it is on both sides Pandora.

  6. Chris says:

All above being said…I greatly feel for the family and friends. No one should die this way.
    No one.

  7. delawaredem says:

Yes, but Lincoln was killed by a Confederate, who today find their place in the Republican Party.

Garfield was killed by a fellow Republican who was angry that he lost his job in the Administration.

McKinley was killed by an anarchist.

Ford was targeted by a follower of Charles Manson, and Reagan was shot by a man who wanted to impress Jodie Foster.

Except for Lincoln (which furthers my point), these are not examples of Democrats targeting Republican Presidents.

  8. mike w says:

I missed the part where the actions of criminals and murderers had anything to do with my right to keep & bear arms.

  9. delawaredem says:

Nothing, except that I am saying we liberals should start buying up guns en masse to defend against crazy evil conservative killers.

  10. mike w says:

It appears that the guy may have been an ex-employee of Gwatney’s, meaning this had nothing to do with political ideology whatsoever

  11. Bob Costas says:

He didn’t kill anyone, his gun did.

  12. cassandra_m says:

And it appears that the LRPD say the shooter was not an ex-employee of Gwatney’s, meaning you have no idea yet what the motive is.

  13. mike w says:

And neither do you, yet DelawareDem jumped right in and claimed he was a crazy conservative. Who cares what his motive was. An innocent man is dead.

  14. Joe C says:

I support the Second Amendment; BlackWater can’t be the only civilians with an arsenal. That sais, I just caught clarity from the WaPo comments:
Guns do not kill. People kill.
That is why we need to keep the guns away from the people.

  15. cassandra_m says:

I did not jump in and claim that there was not (or there was for that matter) an ideological motive for the shooting.

You did, mike w. If you can’t stand being corrected, don’t come in here wrong.

And I am not DelawareDem, so you are wrong twice.

Don’t your parents have some chores for you to get done or something?

  16. Joanne Christian says:

Good Lord- you jumped the gun on this one. I had to read the article 3x and am still confused. “Wishes for a speedy recovery”, and a “full and rapid recovery”, then the Arkansas Baptist State Convention…..let’s see..the man dies…at a Baptist convention..and you make the leap that it’s a conservative operative? Get a medication adjustment….

  17. Linoge says:

Well, it is an idiotic, assinine, and childish reason to arm yourself (not that there are not people out there who are willing to do you harm, but broad-spectrum-painting a wide swath of people off the actions of an individual is patently and completely stupid), but if it induces you to go out and experiment a little, more power to you.

That said, how do you know it was a conservative who killed him? It seems there is a great dearth of information concerning this whole event, but maybe you have an inside source. Furthermore, does just being against “liberals” (whatever that word might mean these days) immediately make you a conservative? And, not to repeat myself, but this whole getting-off on the stereotyping of a large group of people based of the actions of one obviously unbalanced individual is just sad. Are not liberals supposed to disdain stereotypes and bigotry and namecalling?

Be careful – you are becoming those same people you hate and fear so very much.

  18. Truth Teller says:

I just think that someone told Mikie that you had 50,00 orgasm’s before you die and now he is scared to death every time he locks the bath room door

  19. mike w. says:

“Are not liberals supposed to disdain stereotypes and bigotry and namecalling?

Be careful – you are becoming those same people you hate and fear so very much.”

Linoge – DE Liberal folks are hypocrites, plain & simple. Just look at the last few attacks towards me in this thread.

“And I am not DelawareDem, so you are wrong twice.”

Cassandra – I know you’re not DelawareDem, which is why I specifically NAMED HIM in my response. So no, I’m not wrong, you just failed to read before commenting. He’s the one who immediately made the claim that the shooter was a crazy conservative hellbent on killing liberals.

BTW DelawareDem – that in and of itself is pretty damn paranoid, something you folks like to accuse the pro-rights folks of.

OH, and good job again Cassandra and TT with the childish personal attacks towards me. You keep hurling them and I’ll keep pointing out your bigotry and lack of decency in the face of substantive debate.

Your treatment of me does more to advance my points than you could ever hope to grasp.

  20. David says:

I am all for sane, law abiding individuals using the right to self defense. You guys have finally got it. Government can catch them after the fact. You have to defend yourself on the spot.

  21. mike w. says:

Agreed Dover citizen. I’m sad that you cannot open carry a firearm in Dover, as we are free to do in the rest of this state.

  22. cassandra_m says:

Listen mike w — when you learn how to write with some clarity and some facts you may actually earn yourself some respect around here. As long as you keep acting like a kid whose only babysitter is the internet, you will keep being treated like that kid. Advancing my points with you is the least of my interests, which I would think that any normal grownup would have clued into by now. It clearly bothers you to be called out as a kid — you must know by now that if you actually acted like an adult no one would be pushing that button.

Treat yourself to two real facts per day when you post here and see if life changes. Otherwise, we treat you with the respect that you earn, you know?

  23. mike w. says:

Cassandra – Respect is earned, and you and several others have shown you aren’t worthy of respect by way of your comments. Only one group of folks here are consistently taking the low road and being disrespectful and you’re one of them. I show you a modicum of respect despite what you’ve shown me, and that’s only because I’m the better man. It’s simply the way I was raised.

It would do you good to remember that is it YOU, not I, who continue to take the low road. The fact that you continue to harp on my “kid” status is sadly ironic considering your actions on this blog. People with the intellectual ability and integrity to take the high road do so. Others, like yourself, DTB, TT and others do not, and that only reflects poorly upon your character.

I know damn well you have no interest in advancing your points with me. You’ve made that obvious with your childish remarks. You’d much rather insult me because you’re incapable of taking the intellectual high road.

  24. PicardEnter says:

I missed it, where did it say the shooter was a conservative? Can someone link me to the website that states this?

  25. mike w. says:

It doesn’t. They pulled that crap out of left field.

  26. cassandra_m says:

You know mike w, you are here in OUR house — you are the one who needs to be working to earn some respect here. It is definitely NOT the other way around. (You’ll notice that we haven’t come to your blog to trash the joint.)

We treat you like a kid because you act like one. And don’t start with either intellectual ability or integrity because you wouldn’t know it if you saw it. In fact, if you had any self awareness at all you might be embarrassed at how you come off here. But that’s the thing with people who have no respect. You keep trotting your ass over here pretending to yourself that you are teaching these liberals something and all you get for your trouble is beat up and laughed at.

And so it will be until you learn some respect and learn to engage with real information on the topics at hand. Otherwise, I guess you won’t be surprised if scorn and ridicule continue to be your fate here. And I wonder why anyone would stick around in a place where he doesn’t even plan to earn better treatment?

  27. Steve Newton says:

Mike-baiting aside, I’ve got to ask this question of the DL contributors as a group: do you or do you not think DD’s original post, and his comments in 2, 7, and 9 were over the top? Or do you subscribe to them?

    Just curious

  28. mike w. says:

I would hope they’d consider it equally over the top and ridiculous to equate “bloodthristy gun lovers” (Jason’s words in the other thread on this topic) with the actions of this shooter.

  29. Steve Newton says:

mike I don’t mean to be rude to you, but it’s my question, and I’d like to pose it my way; it wasn’t rhetorical.

The people here can certainly speak for themselves.

  30. mike w. says:

My apologies Steve. I did not consider your question to be rhetorical and am likewise curious to see what others thought of DD’s comments. Jason can consider my comment a separate question if he so pleases.

  31. Joanne Christian says:

Steve–I don’t know the vernacular of blogging; so I don’t know if I’m a contributor..sorry…but for what it’s worth…this parallels the ‘ol rhetorical question of “Do you still beat your wife?”. They may (or rather DD) as written conservatives shoot males….because Gwaltney was a male, or conservatives shoot Baptists of Arkansan roots. It’s a serious outcome of a frivolous post….but we all stumble, and I’m sure we will all learn from this.

  32. Steve Newton says:

Actually Joanne it doesn’t parallel have you stopped beating your wife.

I simply asked if the other DL contributors felt DD’s rhetoric here was over the top or not

I don’t want to infer that silence constitutes agreement

Nor do I think DD would characterize this as a frivolous post

Again: I reiterate what I asked; I really want to know if other contributors here feel the post and comments are consistent with their views

They can blow me off or ignore me as they choose

  33. jason330 says:

Steve how many data points do we need to conclude that the right wing’s organized, well-funded and ongoing program of hatred directed at fellow Americans is bearing fruit?

    Two more shootings? Three? Thirty?

  34. kavips says:

Steve, in regards to your question, I was thinking along the line os comment # 7 before it was published.

Except my final comment would have been…. whereas there were obvious interests who would benefit from the deaths of these men, it was usually some social outcast who pulled the trigger…

Think about it… it must always be so… for after the act is done, none of your former compatriots will stand beside you to justify your morally repugnant action

Unless you are Dick Cheney, you miss, and can blame it on cheap beer…….

  35. mike w. says:

“Steve how many data points do we need to conclude that the right wing’s organized, well-funded and ongoing program of hatred directed at fellow Americans is bearing fruit?”

Jason – This is not political. We don’t know the ideological leanings nor party affiliation of the shooter, so don’t try to blame it on the right or left. Place the blame the one place it belongs, with the shooter. Personal accountability folks. Criminals are responsible for their actions, not objects and not talking heads on the left or right.

  36. anon says:

From AP: “…a Target store 30 miles north of Little Rock had fired Johnson earlier Wednesday because he had written graffiti on a store wall.”

My only question about this graffiti: Was it cut-and-pasted from Hannity, or Rush?

  37. mike w. says:

See, without the easy availability of spray paint this could have been prevented….. we need laws to curtail the easy availability of spray paint.

  38. Truth Teller says:

Mike if that last post was an attempt at humor on this serious subject it flopped.

  39. pandora says:

Steve, I will try and answer your question which I feel addresses two separate points. Let me be clear. I am writing my opinion only.

The first point, to me, deals with the nature of blogs and the contributors writing style. Blogs are a mix of information and editorial posts, and just like the MSM headlines count. In fact, I’d even say that headlines count more on blogs because we are continually running a front page.

Now, informational posts are pretty direct. They simply state a fact without commentary. Editorial posts, on the other hand, are a blog’s life blood. These posts tend to be written to fuel debate and discussion. Do I sensationalize my posts/headlines/comments? Yes.

Why? Because I want feedback. I was drawn to blogs because of the debate. I was drawn to DL because of the different voices taking part in the debate. I have learned a lot from posters on both sides of the aisle – with the exception of one commentor who believes he is right 100% of the time, clogs this blog with endless comments, and never asks a question that he feels he doesn’t already know the answer to.

Now, about the post. I do not speak for DD, but I believe I may have answered part of your question above. DD, correct me if I’m wrong.

Which brings me to the content of the post. Do I believe the conservative message contains an element that endorses harm against liberals.

Yes and no. No I do not believe the vast (99.9%) majority of conservatives rejoice when an abortion doctor is shot or Dem leader is killed. However, do I believe racist/sexist/homophobic talk can lead to violence against these groups? Absolutely.

When Rush, Hannity or Coulter spew their “liberals are destroying the moral fiber of this country and should be removed” it does make me uncomfortable.
Why? Well, let’s look at the Right’s Thesaurus.

    Pro-Choice = baby killer/murderer

Against the Iraq War = unpatriotic coward who hates America and the troops

Focus on Alternative Energy = a tree hugging joke

Support gay marriage = support the destruction of heterosexual marriage

Uncomfortable with prayer in school = heathen

Want some restrictions on guns = want little old ladies raped and murdered in their beds with no way to defend themselves.

Who wouldn’t feel that the world would be better off without baby murderers, unpatriotic troop haters, marriage destroying, anti-crime victim heathens?

And therein lies the danger. Spew this hate long enough and don’t be surprised when some mentally imbalanced person puts action to your words.

  40. jason330 says:

    Exceedingly well put.

  41. pandora says:

    Thanks! 🙂

  42. mike w. says:

“No I do not believe the vast (99.9%) majority of conservatives rejoice when an abortion doctor is shot or Dem leader is killed. However, do I believe racist/sexist/homophobic talk can lead to violence against these groups? Absolutely. ”

Don’t kid yourself Pandora – The left is guilty of the same. Sure, it’s a small segment of the far left (just as it is with the right) but everything you’ve said goes both ways.

As far as the left’s thesaurus – it’s no better than how the fringe right defines terms.

  43. mike w. says:

“I have learned a lot from posters on both sides of the aisle – with the exception of one commentor who believes he is right 100% of the time, clogs this blog with endless comments, and never asks a question that he feels he doesn’t already know the answer to. ”

I am right much of the time, not all the time and I have never claimed to be. In fact, when I’ve been wrong in comments here I’ve owned up to it rather than stooped to name calling and childish ad hominems.

I’ve only ever engaged you in debate, asked that you qualify your statements and accusations. I can’t help if you get pissy when someone asks you to be personally accountable for what you say and willing/able to defend your positions. If you don’t like having to defend your positions with substantive, rational arguments you probably shouldn’t open up comments.

you’ll notice that when DTB comments on my blog or Robb Allen’s we break down his positions civily, with logic rather than name-calling and personal attacks, even though he’s coming into “our house” and engaging us in a less than civil manner. This is something you and several others here are incapable of for some reason

And Pandora – You are STILL blaming the words of others for the actions of the shooter.

  44. I was drawn to DL because of the different voices taking part in the debate.

you were drawn to DL b/c Jason wanted to UNSEAT me as DHB!

    grrrr

  45. pandora says:

Really, Mike? Liberals do the same thing? Please list examples and be specific.

  46. mike w. says:

For now I’ll just refer you to Miss AO’s post, since she’s already listed quite a few.

    http://anonymousopinion.com/index.php?blog=2&title=liberal_libel&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

  47. pandora says:

    Pie throwing? Letters? YouTube?

Okay, Mike, who’s been killed? What conservative has been shot down by a liberal for his/her beliefs?

  48. mike w. says:

What liberal was killed by a conservative for his/her beliefs here? And really what difference does that make? The shooter is ultimately responsible for his actions, not the gun and not liberal or republican ideology.

WE DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOOTER INCLUDING POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS OR MOTIVE! Get that through your thick skull Pandora.

Other than DelDem’s assinine claim that the guy was a crazy conservative hellbent on shooting a liberal, we have nothing that says the shooting had any political/ideological underpinnings.

I really don’t know why that’s so hard for you to understand Pandora. Oh, and by the way there was more to that list than just those 3. It helps to read entire posts y’know.

  49. pandora says:

    Incidents in the United States
    [edit]Murders
In the U.S., violence directed toward abortion providers has killed 7 people, including 3 doctors, 2 clinic employees, a security guard, and a clinic escort.[5]
March 10, 1993: Dr. David Gunn of Pensacola, Florida was fatally shot during a protest. He had been the subject of wanted-style posters distributed by Operation Rescue in the summer of the year before. Michael F. Griffin was found guilty of Dr. Gunn’s murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
June 29, 1994: Dr. John Britton and James Barrett, a clinic escort, were both shot to death outside of another facility in Pensacola. Rev. Paul Jennings Hill was charged with the killings, received a death sentence, and was executed September 3, 2003.
December 30, 1994: Two receptionists, Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols, were killed in two clinic attacks in Brookline, Massachusetts. John Salvi, who prior to his arrest was distributing pamphlets from Human Life International,[6] was arrested and confessed to the killings. He committed suicide in prison and guards found his body under his bed with a plastic garbage bag tied around his head. Salvi had also confessed to a non-lethal attack in Norfolk, Virginia days before the Brookline killings.
January 29, 1998: Robert Sanderson, an off-duty police officer who worked as a security guard at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, was killed when his workplace was bombed. Eric Robert Rudolph, who was also responsible for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing, was charged with the crime and received two life sentences as a result.
October 23, 1998: Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot to death at his home in Amherst, New York. His was the last in a series of similar shootings against providers in Canada and northern New York state which were all likely committed by James Kopp. Kopp was convicted of Dr. Slepian’s murder after finally being apprehended in France in 2001.
A fourth doctor, George Patterson, was shot and killed in Mobile, Alabama on August 21, 1993, but it is uncertain whether his death was the direct result of his profession or rather a robbery.[7]
    [edit]Attempted murder, assault, and threats
According to statistics gathered by the National Abortion Federation (NAF), an organization of abortion providers, since 1977 in the United States and Canada, there have been 17 attempted murders, 383 death threats, 153 incidents of assault or battery, and 3 kidnappings committed against abortion providers.[8] The attempted murders were:[9][10][5]
August 19, 1993: Dr. George Tiller was shot outside of an abortion facility in Wichita, Kansas. Shelley Shannon was charged with the crime and received an 11-year prison sentence.
June 29, 1994: June Barret was shot in the same attack which claimed the lives of James Barrett, her husband, and Dr. John Britton.
December 30, 1994: Five individuals were wounded in the same-day shootings which killed Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols.
December 18, 1996: Dr. Calvin Jackson of New Orleans, Louisiana was stabbed 15 times, losing 4 pints of blood. Donald Cooper was charged with second-degree attempted murder and sentenced to 20 years.[11]
October 28, 1997: A physician whose name has not been revealed was shot in his home in Rochester, New York.
January 29, 1998: Emily Lyons, a nurse, was severely injured in the bombing which also killed Robert Sanderson.
September 11, 2006 David McMenemy attempted a suicide bombing of a women’s clinic in Davenport, Iowa after scouting targets throughout the Midwest. It was later revealed that the targeted clinic did not perform or make referrals for abortions.
    [edit]

And this list is limited to abortion.

    Still waiting for your’s.

  50. mike w. says:

Oh, so now the nutjob conservatives who attack abortion clinics speak for the rest of the Conservatives in this country?

What about violent environmentalists from the Earth Liberation Front?

The fact that you stick to compiling lists like this shows your myopic understanding of the broader concepts here (which I point out and you summarily ignore to retain your ignorance)

  51. in this country we like to lump people together mike.

    Muslims=terrorist
    Non English speaking people=illegals

  52. mike w. says:

Well you folks here at Delaware Liberal certainly have that down to a science. You were the 1st to do it in this very post! It makes you come off as ignorant and bigoted.

  53. jason330 says:

What term should I use? He had three guns. Does that rise to the level of gun lover or not?

I would not want to offend.

  54. pandora says:

Still waiting for your list, Mike. I mean… if both sides are killing people…

  55. pandora says:

Oh, and ELF has killed no one, so try again.

  56. mike w. says:

Re-Read comment #48 Pandora…… or do I have to treat you like a child and spell it out for you in more simple terms?

  57. pandora says:

Actually, you started this in comment #42: Don’t kid yourself Pandora – The left is guilty of the same. Sure, it’s a small segment of the far left (just as it is with the right) but everything you’ve said goes both ways.

Prove it, Mike. Prove the left is guilty of the same. That’s been your the point – which you keep avoiding. I answered Steve’s question and you come back with the “they do it too!” whine.

Okay then… back up this statement.

  58. mike w. says:

I started this Pandora?! DelDem started the BS about this being a conservative killing liberals, when of course there was NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER OF THIS BEING THE CASE!

Oh, and I don’t have lists waiting ready to post of liberals killing conservatives or vice versa like you do. I seriously don’t get why that matters to you? An innocent man is dead, a criminal shot him. The polictical afiliation of said criminal is unknown, despite your apparent need to assume he’s a conservative who gets off on killing poor liberals.

  59. JadeGold says:

A word about Linoge: when he gets on his high horse about “stereotyping” and “bigotry” and “namecalling,” remember he believes such behavior only applies to the left–not to him. I’d invite you to Google Linoge and “liberals are.”

When you do, you will find him calling California “Kalifornistan” or refering to it as “Mexico.” Additionally, he associates with a character named Texas Fred who seems to hate “gooks” and basically all folks who aren’t white.

  60. mike w. says:

No need to google Linoge Jadegold. He’s got a link to his blog right in his name.

And don’t even get me started on the bigoted crap the entire gun blogging community has on “Jadegold” You are the Brady Campaign’s posterboy for bigotry and lies.
