The Craptactular News Journal

Their story on Copeland squatting on website domain names concerning Matt Denn, and redirecting them to his own website, and Matt Denn’s response to it, is labeled a mix up. A mix up! It is as if the Copeland campaign “accidentially” registered those domain names, all the while thinking that Charlie Copeland’s name was spelled “Matt Denn.”
Unbelievable.

Hmmm… perhaps if you changed the DL banner to “The News Journal” they might get the point.
Comment by delawaredem on 9 August 2008 at 6:37 pm:
Or if I registered http://www.newsjournal.com and directed it here, perhaps then we can all share in a laugh over the mixup.
Comment by Merkin on 9 August 2008 at 6:37 pm:
I shall register http://www.smellylunchmeatkid.com and redirect it to Matt Denn. Then all will be fine.

it really is stunning that this can’t be probed a little deeper.
Shame there isn’t an IP address that says who purchased them and when.
where is GEEK when we need him
Comment by Joe M on 9 August 2008 at 7:40 pm:
mattdenn.org and mattdenn.net were both registered using a service called Domains by Proxy, which allows you to register domain names without giving personal information that could be looked up by a WHOIS search.
While there is no evidence that they were reserved by the Copeland campaign, whoever did it didn’t want anyone to get his/her name.

Still, Denn has made the dirty tricks by Copeland out to be a laughing matter, undermining their tactics.
I’m excited for this Lt. Gov.
Comment by FSP on 9 August 2008 at 7:51 pm:
Why do you think it wasn’t Matt Denn’s campaign, trying to make Copeland look bad? I don’t believe that, but since everybody’s being ridiculous, I thought I would, too.
Comment by Merkin on 9 August 2008 at 8:09 pm:
I shall one up you Dave…..
I think Protack did it.

To be fair, people grab internet real estate all the time. Look at that article on the side about how even before W had officially entered the primary to be president 39 domain names were snatched up in the hope of selling them to the campaign later.
Its never been a secret that Denn didn’t intend to stay Insurance Commissioner, his ambition is well know. This is probably someone looking to make a buck – who is going to type in Matt Denn, land on Charlie Copeland and not keep looking for Matt Denn?

Personally, I think that this is the best response to this activity.
Tell all of your friends!
Comment by Jason330 on 10 August 2008 at 3:05 pm:
Copeland has his ass handed to him by Denn and the NJ calls it a mix up. Without Ron Williams on his side, Charlie would probably be facing a loss of protackian proportions.
Comment by cassandra_m on 10 August 2008 at 3:36 pm:
I don’t know — which is the better internet strategy? A router workin’ overtime OR squatting on internet real estate?
We should ask Ron Williams to weigh in on that, I think.
Comment by nemski on 10 August 2008 at 5:49 pm:
“It’s important to make sure that you keep a sense of scale about the political process,” Copeland said.
We need a scale to figure out who the bigger douche bag is. Oh wait, no we don’t. You win Mr. Copeland.

DD, why The Craptactular News Journal?
The News Journal reported on this as news, but Denn laughed it off. A better headline would have been The Great Crapland Internet-gate.
