Or you could come out to Drinking Liberally at Catherine Rooneys in a half hour to make your case to us in person. Don’t worry, it won’t be a hostile crowd, for Pandora and Liberal Geek may in fact vote for Carney in the primary.
I’m going to start with the fact that Carney and Markell are a wash on the policy front. Either one would be a good choice for the state of Delaware, especially over their competition.
One of the reasons I like Carney is the fact that he is a politico. Much of the power in Delaware does not reside in the Governor’s office, but in the State Legislature. I believe we need a governor who knows how to work with “these people” and hopefully get things done. Thinking that a governor can go in and steam roll the State Legislature is not only a naïve idea, it is a dangerous one.
On a side note, I find it humorous that posters on this political blog take exception for the fact that Carney has always loved politics and decided to make it his career.
A couple of issues I have had with Markell are the following:
– Buying of the governor’s office and I am referring to $725,000 loan he gave his campaign. I thought those days were done. But I guess not.
– If Markell really wanted to help the people of Delaware, why didn’t he run against Castle? For all the recent talk about “Adgate”, wasn’t Markell’s choice to run for Governor even more detrimental to the party.
– Markell is responsible for those annoying Nextel cell phones. For that, he should be drawn-and-quartered.

Well, it took about a week but you made an affirmative case (sorta) for Carney. Props to you for stepping up.
Again, this race is like miniature version of Obama/Clinton. What you view as Carney’s main asset, many of us view as his main liability.
I agree that Markell would have done the Democratic Party (and country) a favor by running (and announcing early) for US Representative. In all likelihood, Castle would have merely retired rather than compete with Jack.
However, Jack Markell is a person, not a machine. He has two kids, and doesn’t want to be either an absent dad (leave them in DE and work at the ‘Jack level’ as US Representative in DC), or uproot them (move them to DC), or be a part-time US legislator. He would prefer to serve the state while fulfilling his role in his family. I respect this decision.
Again, I would have preferred that Jack run for US Rep and that we have no primary. In this case, there would have been no AdGate, and DelDems could have run ads for Carney now that would have hurt only Republicans.
However, that is not reality. We have a primary, and Delaware Democratic voters (not Daniello) get to choose which of two fine Democratic candidates they would like to run in the general election for state Governor.
Nemski, thank you for sharing your reasons for liking John Carney. I am hopeful that others share their reasons, too.
Should Jack lose the primary, we Markell backers will need to be reminded of Carney’s strengths.

And my response is, why didn’t Carney run against Castle? Because he called shotgun first?
A party that cared about something other than its own interests would have seen how popular Markell is and gotten behind him. But, as one prominent Carney supporter told me two years ago, “John Carney has been preparing himself to be governor for 16 years.”
I agree with PBaumbach – we Markell supporters are going to have to be convinced to support Carney and not just cast a blank ballot in November. I can’t for the life of me even hold my nose and pull the lever for Minner-lite.

One reason I cannot support John Carney is the wife beating redneck culture of so many supporting him, such as that reflected in your response to MJ.
We’ve seen enough of the “you almost expect this to happen” attitude from this administration, seen enough court cases due to the abuse and retribution of those who had a different opinion, etc.
Do most of you Carney folks beat your wives when you go home at night?
I want some one for governor who I have reason to believe will surround himself with honest, ethical, and fair people.
The list of folks Carney has surrounded himself with is very underwhelming. Like a lot of Sherry Freebery type folks.
