oh, my a gun lobby spy

Filed in National by on July 30, 2008

Mary McFate was a prominent gun control activist. Mary Lou Sapone was a freelance spy with an NRA connection. They are the same person. A Mother Jones investigation.

You really have to read this. I think we all have our opinions about the NRA, but after you read this I’d like to know how you feel about them.

I haven’t read the entire article yet, but here are my initial thoughts.

I think it’s completely useless for her to have acted as a “mole.” Gun-Control groups don’t really hide their activities, even moderate digging will tell you where all the funding for their “studies” comes from. What did she hope to accomplish by doing this, other than doing it just to see if she could.

It doesn’t change my opinion of the NRA. Sometimes I agree with them, sometimes I don’t. And it’s hardly difficult to “infiltrate” the NRA. They’re not some super secret lobbying group. They’re funded entirely by citizens (NRA members)

Hell, Michael Moore has a NRA Life Membership. This might have aided his “research” for Bowling for Columbine. Being a life member gives you quite a bit of access to the NRA, Including the ability to vote in yearly elections for NRA board members as well as attend board member meetings.

You don’t even have to be a member to go to the annual NRA convention.

I was right!! I knew it, I knew it! I was just waiting for his comment. I knew Mike would throw in something about some “liberal” doing the same thing or something similar. So and so voted for the Iraq war too. So and so is also in the NRA Larry left-wing is pro-life too… Bobby blue state supports torture…

Using Michael Moore was a sweet touch.

I was pointing out that it’s neither difficult or illegal to do so, and to give a bit of info about how the NRA works.

  4. I haven’t read the entire article yet

    thanks for playing then…

  5. Al Mascitti says:

Now you know why righties suspect lefties of doing this stuff…it’s exactly what they would do, right?

  6. Pandora says:

I actually read the whole article. Talk about unseemly. She must have been very convincing.

  7. veroferitas says:

Outstanding! Only idiots fight fair and only idiots expect their adversaries to fight fair.

Case in point from Bryan Miller, Ceasefire NJ:

“The McFate operation, says Miller, “would confirm for me the way that the gun lobby works, which is no rules, no question of fairness or honesty.”

You overwhelm your enemy, utterly destroy his ability to resist, blow him to hell with a mile wide airstrike and stomp on the ashes after you are done. Gun rights activists need the administrative versions of napalm, white phosphorus, VX nerve gas and those little mines the Sovs dropped to blow up kids.

More to follow in the arena of dirty tactics and unfairness, I hope.

As soon as I heard about this, I sent a special $50 donation to the NRA.

As far as how effective this was and what cost to benefit ratio?

The Brady Bunch, VPC, and Ceasefires of this world seem mighty upset. I’d bet she got some valuable intel or these orgs wouldn’t be so pissy about it. And the best part is, these orgs are now spending their limited time and resources looking for other moles instead of defecating on the Bill of Rights.

  9. mike w. says:

If it weren’t for The Joyce Foundation they’d pretty much have NO resources.

  10. jason330 says:

Oh my. You guys have issues. Do you really want to kill everyone as much as you make it sound like you do?

  11. mike w. says:

You’re projecting again Jason. We haven’t said a damn thing about killing anyone, or even jokingly discussed violence.

  12. jason330 says:

A simple “No, we are not as blood thirsty as we sound” would have sufficed.
