Stevens is running for re-election this year too and his Dem opponent is a very strong candidate.

  2. Good! You lie under oath you deserve to be charged, regardless of political position or party affiliation.

    Only seven?

  4. It will only take seven to get us close to heaven.

I think it’s 60 seats to be fillibuster-proof and 75 seats to be veto proof, but I’m sure somebody here will correct me if I’m wrong.

2/3 or 67 votes in the Senate.

    Way to go, Ted!

Try not to get your “Tubes” filled when behind bars! Somebody named Ice Cube says it’s bad for your health…

Yep both filibuster cloture and veto override is 2/3. For cloture see the Senate rules… for veto see Article I Section 7… 🙂

Yep both filibuster cloture 60 votes override 67

  10. Obama’s “Hope & Change” coupled with that much of a Democratic stranglehold of the legislature would be truly scary.

    Ripped from the headlines:

“Per Republican Senate caucus rules, if a member is indicted, he or she can no longer serve as chairman or ranking member of a committee.

Stevens is a ranking member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. “

Per Democrat caucus rules, don’t sweat it. Ethics are for other people!

  14. Politicians aren’t generally good at following their own rules or laws……. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he continued to serve.

  15. It is time to get another Senate candidate. Retire with dignity Senator.

Begich, the mayor of Anchorage I believe, had an eight point lead in the most recent poll against Stevens. Perhaps a point bump for each indictment.

    Begich+15?

Good reddens, he never saw a nuclear project he didn’t like

  18. Yes, Begich wins this seat hands down now. Indeed, even Obama is competitive in Alaska.
