Keeping it real

This isn’t going to be good at all… I can’t ignore it any longer, nor should any of us. Get ready, b/c it is going to be the story of August, typically a month for Court TV to shine or some mother that killed her baby to be all over the news.
Well, the Dems have their own Newt Gingrich on their hands. I’m sure it’s true and he is going to have the baby to prove it.

Comment by nemski on 29 July 2008 at 3:29 pm:
1. I’m back.
2. Newt wouldn’t have gotten her pregnant; he liked sucky-sucky.
3. She looks like a guy.
Comment by Von Cracker on 29 July 2008 at 3:44 pm:
that sucks. won’t have any effect on the election, no matter how much the GOP puppets complain about this or that.
I guess Edwards is out of the running for AG though…
Comment by pandora on 29 July 2008 at 3:52 pm:
Welcome back, nemski!
While I agree that this will be a story, it will be an Edwards’ story. How does this affect the general? Other than giving the talking heads something right up their alley to jabber about. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Comment by delawaredem on 29 July 2008 at 3:59 pm:
I still won’t believe this story until it leaves the confines of the National Enquirer and Faux News. Indeed, even the Faux News article stated that Andrew Shepard is the real father of the baby.
So, this is not keeping it real. This is feeding the Right Wing Smear Machine. And since we now must believe the National Enquirer, we must now demand an immediate investigation into the pending Bush divorce due to W being drunk and high 24/7.
Comment by Joe M on 29 July 2008 at 4:00 pm:
I think the effect on the general will be minimal. Maybe this will be something that will redirect the “stupid inconsequential shit” reporters from the candidates with a juicy story, and the candidates can get back to talking policy.
It may have a teensy negative affect on Dems in general, but come on, who really thought that there wouldn’t be a Dem scandal to even out the Rs performances of late.
Now, all we need is a Libertarian to turn out to be a raving racist. *holds earphone* Wait, I’m being told that’s already happened. /JonStewart
I am surprised and a lot disappointed that it turned out to be Edwards with the scandal. He was my pick before Obama, $700 haircut notwithstanding.
Comment by mike w. on 29 July 2008 at 4:06 pm:
This is a non-story as far as the election goes. Who cares if Edwards had an affair?
Comment by cassandra_m on 29 July 2008 at 4:07 pm:
What Delaware Dem said.
Comment by jason330 on 29 July 2008 at 4:10 pm:
OMG. I agree w/ Mike !?
I’ll add that this is a dry run for the Obama mistress rumors that the GOP has lined up.
Comment by June on 29 July 2008 at 4:17 pm:
“I’m sure it’s true ” Where you there?
How are you sure it’s true — because two crazy media outlets said so. Come on.
Comment by Graniaclewbay on 29 July 2008 at 4:59 pm:
Maybe he’ll get the Carolina’s own Billy Graham to come fix his marriage. I always thought he was the most phoney SOB and a trial lawyer to boot. Check out Slate magazine on line. The bloggers in CA were told NOT TO BlOG on the story. I am sorry for his wife.
Comment by G Rex on 29 July 2008 at 5:07 pm:
I don’t foresee any impact on the election, just that Edwards will finally STFU and slide into obscurity where he belongs. Just too bad he’s not taking Al Gore with him.
Comment by Steve Newton on 29 July 2008 at 5:16 pm:
You have to figure that the Obama people already knew Edwards had a mistress, which would have kept him out of the VP, but if it hadn’t come to light could have gotten him into AG.
As it is now, he’ll just have to settle for about a year’s penance before he becomes a multi-million-dollar commentator for CNN or MSNBC.
(Right, Dick Morris?)
Comment by benjamin on 29 July 2008 at 7:18 pm:
I tend to believe the story but the National Enquirer has promised to release photos from that fateful night to prove they were telling the truth and … we are still waiting.
Comment by Delaware's Toughest Blogger on 29 July 2008 at 7:47 pm:
well see who is right June. He is slinking around at 245 am at the same place as the girl he is “alleged” to have had the affair with….
Look, I’m not going to ignore the story so some schmuck at a comic book reading website can come here and try to say we ignored it.
I posted it, here it is, moving on…
Comment by delawaredem on 29 July 2008 at 7:50 pm:
There is alcohol in the White House too. I demand to know why the traditional media is not reporting the National Enquirer’s bombshell story about Laura divorcing George due to his rampant alcohol abuse.
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 29 July 2008 at 9:53 pm:
I’m with delawaredem and mike w. I’ll wait until there is some evidence besides innuendo. I have no idea if it’s true but I think it will keep him from a spot in the Obama administration.
Comment by Dominique on 29 July 2008 at 10:26 pm:
Well, I don’t want to believe it, but I do. John Edwards made no bones about the way he feels about Fox News when he refused to appear on their network. Don’t you think that a TRIAL ATTORNEY would have immediately filed a defamation suit against them (not to mention the Enquirer) if it wasn’t true?
C’mon people, wake up and rub the sleep out of your eyes. This doesn’t hurt Obama or the party in any way. The only people hurt will be Elizabeth and the kids. What an asshole. She’s terminal. Couldn’t he have kept it in his pants till she was gone or at least worn a freaking condom?!?!? What about STDs, for Christ’s sake?
Comment by Mrs. Hotviti on 30 July 2008 at 7:51 am:
not to be totally out there (and this comment will), but how do we know that b/c elizabeth is terminal she didn’t say start moving on? she may know about it and even encouraged it. i know it seems a little far fetched but who knows crazier things have happened.

WORLDS COLLIDING!
Comment by liberalgeek on 30 July 2008 at 8:23 am:
Dom – Fox is careful to report the story as, “the reporters stated…” Fox would be difficult to sue. As besides that, if Edwards was going to sue, it would take some time.
Let me also say, “God damn Bill Clinton!” If it wasn’t for him and his friggin’ finger wag, I would have given Edwards every benefit of the doubt. As it is, I will have to say that only time will tell if the story is true.
Comment by liberalgeek on 30 July 2008 at 8:24 am:
Mrs. Hotviti – Now I understand the whole “Donviti won’t mind” thing. Sorry I resisted…
Comment by John Atkins on 30 July 2008 at 8:29 am:
It is a travesty that powerful, important men are not allowed to have sex with as many women as they want to in our culture.
In this respect we could learn a lot from the French.
Comment by Mrs. Hotviti on 30 July 2008 at 8:39 am:
LG: no worries!
Comment by June on 30 July 2008 at 9:05 am:
All I’m saying is give me a reputable news source on this story and I’ll believe it.
Since when do sane people believe anything in the National Enquirer?
Comment by liberalgeek on 30 July 2008 at 9:29 am:
June – you don’t believe in Bat-Boy?
Comment by cassandra m on 30 July 2008 at 9:51 am:
I think that the subtitle on the WWN used to be “Life and Times of Batboy”. And Batboy has his own Broadway musical too.
