Karen Peterson Endorsement of Markell Telling

Filed in National by on July 28, 2008

Look, Karen Peterson is no dummy and neither does she wear her heart on her sleeve.

For all her good deeds, in the end she is still a politician, and it would have cost her nothing to remain with Carney. Her going on Al Mascitti’s show this morning to lay out her endorsement thinking tells me she knows something.

This Peterson endorsement of Markell signals a major shift in this primary election.

  1. Al Mascitti says:

What’s also telling was Karen’s take on who really turned around the Bluewater Deal — that DeLuca changed his mind only after the unions explained to him that, while 150 jobs weren’t as good as 550, they were better than none. Which explains why a dunderheaded thug like DeLuca actually did the right thing. As I expected, it had nothing to do with John Carney.

  2. Wow…this could get very juicy in the next six weeks. I chided Peterson’s endorsement of Carney months ago. I should have known she would have eventually turned from the Dark Side.

  3. RickJ19958 says:

To be mercenary about it, there are a humdred reasons to endorse Markell over Carney that don’t have anything to do with the qualification of either man. It’s entirely possible that Peterson believes (and rightly so) that there are more campaign donations to be enjoyed if Markell is standing next to you than if Carney does.

  4. Al Mascitti says:

Or that Markell is a lot more likely to share them. 🙂

  5. liz allen says:

Will she now back away from Gene Greed?

  6. P.I. says:

RickJ—She’s not up for re-election and she’s not seeking any campaign donations. By the time she’s gearing up to run again, all of this will be water under the bridge. She’ll have to raise her funds the good old fashioned way…by doing the what’s right for her voter base.

Liz – you’re still not worth answering.

  7. liz allen says:

Oh my, I guess bringing up an issue re: the “Godess Queen” upsets some. You think “it will all be under the bridge by the time she comes up for re-election”, she will have to do a back flip on her corporate support for health care or it will be “huge” issue confronting her.

  8. Al Mascitti says:

For those scoring at home, the Liz Allen endorsement card goes like this:

    Tom Gordon, good

    Karen Peterson, bad

“This Peterson endorsement of Markell signals a major shift in this primary election.”

    Now that’s funny…

  10. liz allen says:

No, Al….Karen Peterson great, except on health care! “Corporations shouldn’t have to pay a dime into health care”!

  11. June says:

Jason, Karen doesn’t know anything we don’t know about the Primary. She’s been thinking of changing over for some time now and kept waiting and waiting and waiting to hear John Carney break with Ruth Ann’s bad decisions on the prison and psychiatric center problems. That’s all. For sure, she doesn’t support someone because she thinks they will win. Needn’t read something into this that isn’t there.

  12. P.I. says:

June is absolutely right on this one. The reality is that Karen could’ve continued to keep a low profile on the Carney side and vote for Markell behind a closed curtain. That would’ve been the ‘safe’ thing to do to avoid all of the blog conjecture that has been going around the last few days. Fortunately, for her constituents, that’s not how she does things. She went with Carney because he assured her he was going to break free of the cycle of weak governing and he simply hasn’t distanced himself from all of the things we all loath about this current administration. In the meantime, Markell is out there standing for all of the ideas she stands for and she needed to be honest and true to herself.

I agree with any good thing anybody wants to say about Karen P.

….But the fact remains that she is a politician and if it looked like Carney was going to win I don’t think her switch would have been so public.

  14. June says:

It does look like Carney is winning!! He’s ahead by 10 points — or not?

  15. I do agree with Liz. KP backed away from Carney — now all she needs to do is un-endorse Gene Reed.
