I’ve just gotta give some props to Iron Hill

Here is a post I wrote a few months ago and never posted.

I am going to give into a temptation that haunts every political blogger from time to time. I am going to write a restaurant review.

There is a simple reason why I’m breaking my self-imposed prohibition and potentially opening up the flood gates to criticize every meal that I eat out from now until I am called home to God’s own five star bistro and that is the tuna pineapple appetizer served at the Iron Hill Brewery in Newark.

On second thought, it is the paragon of appetizers and I am sure that my meager writing skills will not do it justice. With its caramelized onion and tangy red pepper combining with the sweetness of the pineapple, it is an appetizer that should be praised from every rooftop and it deserves to have glory heaped on it. Maybe just mentioning it here might inspire other, better food writers to undertake a description of its nearly indescribable greatness.

I don’t eat there very often, but I’ve found I either have a fantastic experience or a really shitty experience; never in between. The menu is great, but I’ve had some really terrible service there in the past.

The beer is reason enough to go there IMO. The Raspberry Wheat is excellent.

I’m with Dom on this one. I’ve found it very inconsistent. The last time we were there they served two dinners… 8 minutes later the other two arrived.
