Well, We Know Now Who to Vote For.

Filed in National by on July 25, 2008

I am not sure if Delaware Liberal will be officially endorsing any candidate.   Indeed, from reading emails and the comments from my fellow contributors, and in contrast to our perception in the party, where they think Markell is the “Golden Boy of the Blogs”, we front page contributors here are actually divided on who to vote for.   Some like both Carney and Markell and thus are undecided or could care less who the candidate is.  Others love Markell and are opposed to Carney because he would just be an extension and continuation of the Minner Administration and Establishment Democratic practices.   Indeed, we all, I think, realize that we would be supporting the winner of the primary against Lee-Copeland, no matter if it is Carney or Markell.

But Adgate now makes me personally enthusiastic to vote for Markell and it makes it imperative that Markell win the primary.  We need to bring progressive change to the Delaware Democratic Party.  We need to open up its processes.   We need to wean it from the influence of special interests.  We must wrest control of the party infrastructure away from conservative and establishment Democrats who have been beholden to corporate interests for too long.

The comments of Carney supporters, in defending the Delaware Democratic party’s decision to spend party money, donated to it by people like you and me, to support one Democrat over another Democrat, have convinced me that these supporters are part of the problem.  They too are party hacks who have no interest in waiting on the decision of the people.  They want Delaware Democrats to have no voice.   They say that since the Delaware Democratic Party has endorsed John Carney to be Governor, that should be the end of the conversation.   Indeed, I think they don’t even want John Carney to be inconvenienced by a primary election at all.   Who are the people to ask for the right to vote on who the nominee should be??  The Party has already endorsed a candidate.   That should be good enough for the people.

With that attitude, Hillary Clinton would be the nominee of the Democratic Party at this moment.   The Party elite preferred Hillary, as they prefer Carney.   The people decided otherwise with respect to Hillary.

And it is now imperative that we decide otherwise with respect to Carney.

If you want progressive and open change in our Party and in our Government, you cannot ever consider voting for John Carney.   Adgate reveals that under John Carney, our Party will continue to be a hinderance to Progressives rather than a partner.

Good god, you really didn’t write that did you? What a freaking laugh. You appear to be a bit self-righteous.

  2. delawaredem says:

As someone who thinks the Party, and not the voters, decides who the nominee should be, it is a laugh that you consider me self righteous.

  3. anon420 says:

No, you’re putting words in my mouth. Both candidates went in to the contests knowing the rules of the game. And, one is crying foul because he drew the short straw.

I said you appear to be “self-righteous” because you said that the following:

If you want progressive and open change in our Party and in our Government, you cannot ever consider voting for John Carney.

You see, I myself want “progressive and open change” and I will be voting for Carney.

  4. jason330 says:

This really does expose the Carney campaign for what it is.

  5. anon420 says:

This really does expose the Carney campaign for what it is. . . . the winner. 🙂

  6. liberalgeek says:

Underfunded by the Chateau Country? I agree!

  7. delawaredem says:

See? Anon420 is calling Carney the winner (past tense) of the nomination.

In his mind, Carney is already the nominee of the Party, because the Party endorsed him.

In his mind, the voters have no voice.

  8. jason330 says:

    Anon42,

Funny. But I wonder why the only people who I know support Carney (besides geek) are people who feel that their state jobs might be at risk?

In Dumblebum’s case I guess he is looking to the revolving door to desposite him back in a cush state job – albiet at a higher level this time.

  9. anon420 says:

In his mind, the voters have no voice.

If you repeat it enough, it might become true.

  10. delawaredem says:

You’re the one that said Carney is already the winner, even though he has won nothing yet.

  11. J. Lyman says:

DD, you speak truth to power. Good stuff.

  12. anon420 says:

You’re the one that said Carney is already the winner, even though he has won nothing yet.

Did you see the freaking smiley face at the end of my post?

  13. J. Lyman says:

DUHHHH DD! Jeeeeez. Come on. That smiley was a dead giveaway.

    420: Bite me 🙂

  14. The dick-fuck poll about honesty in county level politics is sickening. Coons is a fucking tool who is enriching himself with his land use department’s under the radar sub-divisi0n of one of the last, vast pristine greenfields around mid NCC.
You go DE Liberals. Thanks for the honest shot.

  15. liberalgeek says:

whatever. They are both dirty. Nice language, BTW.

  16. delawaredem says:

Yeah. Dick-Fuck Poll? That’s a new one. Nancy, the poll was a binary choice poll between Freebery and Gordon, both of whom have in the past been indicted for corruption. Last I checked Coons has not been indicted. But I will take your comment as a vote for Coons as the most corrupt official in NCC, despite all evidence to the contrary.

  17. P.I. says:

Markell has another legislator on his team…Sen Karen Peterson has withdrawn her support of Carney and moved into the Markell camp. Too much old school politics on the other side, I guess.

  18. anon says:

I knew Senator Peterson was a good public servant. I need to writer her a check for her future campaign.

Why not, I’ll have a little extra as I will not be sending any money directly to the Delaware Democratic Party crooks anymore. Straight to the honest candidates only from now on.

  19. PI,

Where’s your source on that? That’s awesome news if true.

  20. No, DelDEM that was a complaint about being tacit Coons weasels. Freebery is in a class by herself. Your bi-nary pol is a deliberate tactic to de-pressurize Coons.
I see that no one is interested in examining Golden DEM HIGH DLC sleazeball and his personal enrichment via the GORE Sunset Lake greenfields sub-division.
    Good on ya, I guess.
Gordon NEVER did anything close to that while Sherry Freebery did. Apples and oranges IMHO.
    As I said, a dick-fuck move.

  21. Markell has another legislator on his team…Sen Karen Peterson has withdrawn her support of Carney and moved into the Markell camp.

Now that is a good sign. Karen P. can you get off of the Gene Reed Sleaze machiner too?

  22. PI is definitely onto something. I guess we’ll be hearing more about this KP-switch soon!

  23. delawaredem says:

    Nancy,

Are you saying that Tom Gordon is as pure and clean as newly fallen snow when compared to Chris Coons? Because, damn, if that is what you are saying, I need those rose colored glasses you are wearing.

  24. Coons got a pass for felony theft, over 90K of taxpayers money, by the way dear DE DEM.

The interim AG Danberg declined to rule on Coons’ ghost employee payoff of Julius Cephas. More uber-DE HIGH DEM Hi-jinx, IMHO.

The well documented episode disgraced Coons in all but you partisan whack’s eyes.

Gordon wasn’t even close to conviction of what the US Attorney spent years and millions trying to find evidence of….the corruption of which you seem so hell bent to telepathically have knowledge of to the degree that you speak so ill of him now.

  25. Gordon pure as snow vs Coons pure as snow….heh.
Can you believe that Coons is so desparate now that he is intimidating staffers who support Gordon? Gordon has AFSME and many of the trades because Coons cant’ freaking run the county. He ran all his close friends right into cake pensions and +100K per annum department head jobs ; a club out of which only HIGH DEM Anne Farley is left standing.

  26. I heard the same thing re: Coons intimidating staffers. Interesting.

  27. And because Coons and Scott-Clarky Saul Ewing are as thick as thieves, Coons is desparate to distance himself from the ordinances his land use department developed for Scott-Clark by throwing Clark under the bus by way of his uber supporters McClellan, Hollins, Tackett, Cartier and now, funny enough joinining in are Street and sorry-ass GOPerhic Weiner.

DE DEM, unless you actually follow county affairs, I’ll take my bow now. 🙂 you ain’t catchin’ me.

  28. I’ll say of everything Nancy’s knowledgeable on, no one can touch her on County affairs. Homegirl’s on fire at those Council meetings!

  29. delawaredem says:

I will defer to Nancy on her county level knowledge, but she will never convince me that Coons is worse than Freebery or Gordon. Coons may be bad, but he is not that bad.

  30. liz allen says:

Nancy: I heard the same rumor that Coons is ‘threatening staffers”. Some how he got photos of staff at Gordons affairs and started callin them in. or having them “spoken” too. Shows how desperate he really is.

Coons and his bud Paoli are reeking havoc with their “good ole boy politricks”. It won’t work and they will got caught with their tricks like “good ole boy Carney” got caught with his.

Coons has an office at Democratic Headquarters,–says volumes about the party.

The Democrat Party shouldn’t be endorsing any candidates before a primary….we the voters pick first….they never understood that simple concept! And they certainly shouldn’t be renting offices to any candidate, that should show us all…the party favorites!

  31. P.I. says:

    “PI,

Where’s your source on that? That’s awesome news if true.”

    From the good Senator.

  32. delawaredem says:

Liz, I agree with you, but for the love of God, refer to our Party correctly and not how Faux News and the Republicans do. It is the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party.

  33. liz allen says:

I heard the same thing. Some one run down this: Is Jim Paoli (Democratic New Castle County Chair) having his brother driving Coons around for between $100,115,000? Is that coming out of Coons campaign or out of tax payer dollars.

And what about some staffers claiming those who attended Gordon’s fund raisers “have been spoken too by the Coons goons”. Intimidation anyone! Where’s Colm Connoly on that!

Whatever you think of Gordon, one thing is for sure…after all that man has been through, when he is elected “he will micro managing every dollar”… and surrounding himself with similiar people. No way in hell Gordon would want to be put “under the microscope again”.

  34. liz allen says:

When the Democrat Party becomes Democratic… I will.

  35. When the Democrat Party becomes Democratic… I will.

shite, that is one hell of a line for DEM Dels.
    🙂

  36. delawaredem says:

So long as you are comfortable repeating right wing talking points imagined straight out of the mind of Karl Rove, fine.

I share many of the same concerns as you, Liz and Nancy, but at least I am not as willing as you both to lower myself to the level of right wing scum so as to use their words.

  37. Al Mascitti says:

DelDem: Thanks for sticking up for good government.

Tom Gordon’s BS makes Coons’ pale by comparison. Cephas and his bogus pay? Why aren’t you upset about Bill Bell pulling down $160,000 to be a “liason” to volunteer fire companies under Gordonberry? Oh, that’s right, Tom Gordon didn’t tell you about that, did he?

    Tools.

  38. Yup, he did Al-o-master. That is why Bell is voting with Coons goons at every step, is it?
