John Atkins Question of the Late Night/Early AM

Suppose a close friend or family member came to you with a worried countenance and said, “I’m really worried about the prospect of the disgraced drunk driver, wife-beater, witness tamper-er and all around loser, John Atkins, being elected to represent the 41st RD as a Democrat.”

What would you say to that person?

McCain Warns Of ‘Hard Struggle’ On The ‘Iraq-Pakistan Border’

From Talk Progress via Artios…

Today on Good Morning America, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) refused to call the situation in Afghanistan “precarious and urgent,” but admitted that “We have a lot of work to do.” He warned of a “very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border.”

I think this country is tired of dumb Presidents. I am anyway.

There Will Be Fireworks

This head’s up comes courtesy of Paul Baumbach who blogs here…

This coming Tuesday night Councilwoman Stephanie McClellan will be introducing a resolution to instruct County Council President Paul Clark to refrain from introducing and spearheading development legislation for the time being.

Baumbach writes, “McClellan’s proposal has been criticized as political. It may be. It may instead be a good-faith attempt by council members to take a timeout and examine the system, to ensure both the reality and appearance of a level playing field between residents and developers.” So, If you support this resolution, attend the meeting.

At the very least Clark should recuse himself from development related business, but don’t hold your breath. Instead, expect Clark to come out swinging. You don’t have to do anything to be on the side of good government except show up. Numbers will have impact and Clark is expected to pack his side of the house with cronys.

When: Tuesday, July 22nd, 7:00 PM
Where: Council Chambers in the city/county bldg.
800 French St, Wilmington 19801

As if that were not enough rock’em sock’em governing – the agenda also includes:

…a proposal for the council to pay or not pay the attorney fees incurred by Sherry Freebery. Why is this interesting? The fees are $3.7 million, and are claimed to be tied to Freebery’s defense against charges that she and Tom Gordon (more on this in a bit) ran county government ‘as a criminal enterprise and misusing county resources and personnel for their own political and personal benefit’.

That should be fun.

Comment Rescue: The Protack Effect

Like him or hate him, this is some ballsy stuff from, as yet unfiled candidate for Governor, Mike Protack.

The comment stands, Lee is a coward and is not up on the issues. No need to use surrogates to say what every body knows.

If he had only stopped there…but no…

DSEA, despite its partisanship was accurate.

I find it humorous you attach a post card effort to me based on the findings of a guy who was threatening subpoenas and FBI involvement before he was banished to obscurity. If you notice, the cards were reported to stop after that person said “Delaware wasn’t ready” for him.

Ask Lee what are his proposals for health care? for transportation? for educaiton? for pollution? for renewable energy? for anything?

The Protack effect in full flower. For ever advantage he is handed, he parleys it into a disavantage. Now he has been baited into a pink postcard pissing match when he was riding high this morning.

How did we get here…

And where are we heading?

Americans live shorter lives than citizens of almost every other developed nation, according to a report from several US charities.
The report found that the US ranked 42nd in the world for life expectancy despite spending more on health care per person than any other country

More US babies die in their first year than in most other rich countries

Of the world’s richest nations, the US has the most children (15%) living in poverty
Of the OECD nations, the US has the most people in prison – as a percentage and in absolute numbers
25% of 15-year-old students performed at or below the lowest level in an international maths test – worse than Canada, France, Germany and Japan

So, I guess, We’re #1 should read… “We’re #1*

* The #1 status does not apply to those individuals living in poverty, have sub-standard or no healthcare, are incarcerated, or who are trapped in failing schools. Other than that America is the best.

Jackson ‘malfunction’ fine axed

From the BBC…

A US appeal court has thrown out a $550,000 (£275,700) fine against CBS for screening Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” during 2004’s Super Bowl.

Three judges ruled the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) watchdog “acted arbitrarily and capriciously” in levying the fine.

Some 90 million viewers saw a fleeting glimpse of the singer’s breast during a performance at half-time.

Bush appointees acting capriciously and arbitrarily?

Gasp!! Get me to my fainting couch, I have the vapors.

Are you surprised that Oil Prices went down?

Because I’m not.  If you have your head up your GOP buddies asses that is about the only way you wouldn’t have seen a direct correlation between the Administration announcing a high profile visit with Iran and the price of a barrel dropping way down.  As the threat of War goes down so do prices.  Gee what a shock..

Well, looks like they will be going up again.  My guess is, that you will see the prices hover at about this level ($130 a barrell) for the next 2 weeks.  “Why two weeks Delaware’s Hottest blogger”

Well…this is why:

We will see what Iran does in two weeks, but I think the diplomatic process now has a new kind of energy to it,” she said. “If they do not decide to suspend then we will be in a situation where we have to return to the Security Council.”

Jason is calling the dow at 10600 and I’m calling oil to go over $150. IF Iran doesn’t do as we tell them in 2 weeks I don’t think it is going to be pretty. They don’t want Iran to have the ability to enrich Uraniaum. You just watch something will go down with Israel. We are running cover for something. They have been mighty quiet while we do their dirty work.

CowardLee!

Bill Lee tries to spin his efforts to duck a debate with Mike Protack in today’s Delaware State News.

Pusillanimouslee, the RETIRED judge states that his priorities are raising money, raising Republicans and raising media, but Drew Volturo does a good job pushing past Lee’s talking points and getting to the real reason:

From a pragmatic standpoint, we are not going to give Mike Protack face time. We don’t think he has any credibility.  – Bill Lee
