Fundraiser for Tommywonk
You probably have heard that Tommywonk has been selected as the Delaware representative to the Democratic National Convention in Denver as a member of the blogging corps. We are very happy for him. Really.
What you may not know, is that along with this honor, comes a high price tag. Tom must pay his own way to Denver. Sure, he’ll be able to swipe a few donuts from the catered events that he can sneak into, but it will still be a significant financial hit. Not that I priced going out there if DelawareLiberal were selected, but I’m guessing Tom will be out over a grand for the week.
We here at DelawareLiberal are big fans of Tommywonk. He thinks, so we don’t have to. So, we are holding a fundraiser for Tom. The event will be held at the next Drinking Liberally at Catherine Rooney’s on July 31st at 7:30. At that time, we will send Tom off with a bang.
The event will be the election of Delaware’s Hottest Blogger by ballot. Since we are not public officials, we will be electing the Hottest Blogger with money. Each vote will be written on a 5, 10 or 20 dollar bill and each $5 counts as a vote. So a $20 bill gets you 4 votes. All proceeds will go to Tom to help pay for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Unlike Delaware election law, you may write in any blogger name that you want to vote for, without regard for the favorites (Donviti and I). Did I mention that all proceeds go to Tom?
So mark your calendar for the evening of July 31st to attend Drinking Liberally, spend time with fellow liberals and crashing libertarians (I’m looking at you TPN), and support the wonderful cause of sending Tom Noyes to Denver. And for $5 you can either inflate Donviti’s ego, or crush it.
hmmm, I am still waiting for an explanation of why DV dis-invited me to the blogger BBQ at his house. For $5 I can get some satisfaction?
Actually, I love this post because Noyes will be a great rep for DE Bloggers in Denver and I happen to be able to budget that much pretty easily. D’OH!
Just a thought to generate some energy for the fundraiser:
Money ‘votes’ will be deposited in the underwear of the hottest blogger candidates. At the end of the night, one lucky constituent (choosen by largest donation) for each candidate will have the honor of reviewing the contents of the ‘ballot boxes’ and tallying the votes (or checking the votes next to the tally, if you know what I mean).
The only drawback would be that Tommywonk would probably not want to touch the money.
Almost forgot: DV will have to wear underwear.

Kidding? Perhaps I’m more irreverent than most, however, kidding about DV’s hotness would be like making fun of Catholic’s faith in the Pope; simply an area into which I dare not tread.

i am sorry, but common sense dictates that if you cant afford to do something, you dont do it. it tommy (who has been fantastic for DE) cant afford to pay his way then you decline, unless, like most bloggers his ego thinks he is too important to miss it.

Thanks, Tom. It should be pointed out that you will essentially be paying for a hotel in Denver during the biggest onslaught of people that Denver has ever seen. There are no discount hotels.

Three words on hotels: Priceline.
Priceline is one word; do you have two more?
I got a room through the convention organizing committee. It’s not cheap, but Priceline doesn’t work when there are no rooms available, as is the case in Denver that week.

There will always be cancellations. Seriously, as to hotel rooms and rental cars (not so much plane tickets), Priceline kicks ass.
Uh and Tommywonk are right on!! You darn liberals are at it again—turning everything into a program!! Mr. Tommywonk is going to Denver–has accepted personal responsibility for costs. Enter the liberals–who can’t just give the guy 5 bucks to help defray costs–they have to secure a venue, let us be charged big coin for watery drinks–bring in DHB and DHB wannabes; secure votes…reimburse venue for damage that will probably happen, and then turn over to Tommywonk the 20 bucks they cleared. So now the 5 buck donation is a fifty dollar nite….such a reflection of their politics!!!!
