I feel….because

Filed in National by on July 9, 2008

I ask myself when did the government become a conduit for corporations to increase their bottom line and stop being for the people by the people?  I look at the approval ratings of BOTH the President and Congress and see record low ratings.  Something like 20% of this country think it all is going well.  Is it any wonder that a minority of this country think that everything is fine and we still continue to head down the same track?

What is wrong?  I ask myself to the point of tears almost.  I really do, honestly, I get a sunken feeling in and around my heart when I wonder what the fuck is going on with this country?  I mean what the fuck man?  I don’t get it.  I just don’t get it.  It hurts me inside to know that such a small majority of MY country is controlling me.  I hate to be controlled.  If you want me to do something just ask me NOT to do it. The people running this country are so worried about making that next dollar b/c god forbid the next one may never com.  They just gotta get one more.  They never stop man…never.  It’s horrible. endless. I feel a creeping, slowly, overwhelming, drowning type feeling that sets in sometimes.  I feel powerless like a turtle being flipped on its’ back.  Like A fish on a boat not able to get in the water. The fish is no longer flopping though, just mouth opening occassionally gasping for air.  I feel like I’m almost to the point of urinating but barely able to hold it.  It’s a sense of being so powerless that you feel you have no options but to lie their in take it type feeling.

I remember going to Straight in and around Fairfax Va once a month when I was 14 and 15.  It was a horrible experience for me.  I never knew about drugs to the degree these kids did them and just how many people did them until I saw the patients there.  I remember this one thing that parents had to do when they talked to their kids across the room 20 yards away in a chair, with a sponsor type kid holding thier hand in his belt loop in case he darted out of the building to run away yet again.  We always had to start with “I feel (insert feeling) because  XY and Z”

I remember sharing my “I feel because”  I feel hurt because I have to come down here to see you.  I feel hurt because of what you have done to our family.  I feel hurt because you don’t understand the pain you have caused.  I feel violated because everything I was told in school, on TV, in the Movies and in books is a big FUCKING LIE.

I feel hurt by my country.  I feel ashamed.  I feel raped and abused.  Not sexually.  But in my heart.  When I saw the President smirk on TV today after finding out the FISA bill was passed I was ill.  It’s a game to him.  Much like that photo of him playing rugby and giving a dirty upper cut to his opponent he views it as a game.  I am Jack’s raging bile duct.  My heart hurts.   I don’t get it.  I just don’t get it.  I don’t even look to God or Jesus Christ anymore.  Sinking feeling.  I have a stone tied to my ankle and I’m being pulled under.  I am swimming like crazy and not getting up for air.  I can see the light but it is moving away.  I’m drowning, I know it, he knows it and he is not helping.  I’m starting to close my eyes.  I’m no longer struggling at this point.  A part of me is giving in.  The weight of the stone is too much for me.

As i descend to my death, I feel what has happened to this country.  My life is flashing through my eyes and I wonder at what point my persuit of happiness was to have paid its’ amazing dividend of free will and peace.

I feel like what I was told as a child has become the biggest bunch of propaganda bullshit and our dear leaders still think that I’m that same 12 year old in social studies believing we had thanksgiving dinner with the Indians at Plymouth rock instead slaying a few million of them like hitler did the Jews.  sinking…sinking

I feel confused by this bullshit.  Confused because I am an adult.  Because I know right from wrong and I know what I was taught.  I know that we all have our differences but in the end the majority is supposed to win.  The majority is supposed to have a say.  That in the end the Constitution is supposed to win. Right?  Am I wrong?  Aren’t you supposed to be held accountable for your actions?  I got busted for something when i was kid and did my “time” so to speak.  How come they don’t.?  How the FUCK DO THEY GET AWAY WITH IT MAN?  drowning, about to take my last breath at this point.  the rock is on the bottom and I’m tired of it, I want to let it pull me down so it can all be over and be someone elses problem.  I don’t care anymore.  I don’t.

I feel perplexed.  I was taught that the Vice President belongs to the executive branch.  Yet we literally have the Vice President and his men saying otherwise.  Can you imagine learning this one in Civics.  What I’m more perplexed over is the fact that the President has never said anything about it, or to my knowledge been asked.

I feel betrayed.  I feel betrayed by Carper, Castle and Biden because they are complacent.  Time and again they proved that they are only for themselves and the people they work for.  Corporations.   Where are they on the Vice President being an anomoly to Government?  where is their voice?  Pussies. You are all PUSSIES you know that?  self serving, lap dogs that work to get re elected and not for me or any of us.

I feel that corporations have ruined this country.  Ruined ALMOST beyond repair.  I saw an episode of Adams today and in it, Jefferson basically says that Revolution is healthy for any democracy and the blood from that revolution is great manure to regrow a better government.  WHEN is our Revolution?  When? When?  When did corporations become some powerful manipulative tool for the uber rich?  So powerful as to sap the fucking energy of it citizens of anything remotely close to a degree of self respect that any man or woman should have.  I know that there have always been corporations and they have positioned themselves closesly to the government for their own self interests but was their so many?  Has it always been this way.  Have the struggles to succeed in a democracy always been so hard for so many?

Were they all so leech like?  I don’t blame the corporations for ruining this country though entirely that is.  I feel they are a big part of why this country is the way it is though.  I feel that the spineless politicians like Harris McDowell, the old bag of shit Adams, delinquents like Atkins are all apart of a bigger cesspool that has become a blight on our history.  I don’t blame the corporations because shit bags like the 3 mentioned here, the 3 mentioned earlier and the countless more that want to sell my land, allow me to be spied on without a warrant all because they enjoy their power and could care less about people that don’t shake their hand or donate to them.  They are weak.  They are spineless and they can’t think for themselves.  They don’t stop to ask themselves a fundemental question I think should be required before they wipe their asses in the morning.  “Is what I’m doing going to benefit my people? or a corporation more?”  I want to just close my eyes.  I feel I am the only one fighting this battle.  I feel the war for more equality that rages in my soul is being defeated and I am being tortured a slow agonizing death that once I succumb I will be like all the rest of them.  Wake up, go to work, work for the machine that fills the pockets of the rich, only to get my bone to take home for the kids each night.

It’s that simple.  I feel because.  I feel if more politicians and people actually stopped to say is this what’s best for my country and for it’s citizens that things might change.  I feel that I’m at my wits end and things most likely have to get worse before they get better.

I feel fear.  In my stomach, in my heart I feel it growing like a painful tumor that I can no longer control.  I can almost touch it too.  I really do feel it.  Don’t you?  But not of some “raghead” in Iraq strapping a bomb to himself and killing my family.  I fear that when I get old enough to retire that I won’t be able too.   That I will be like this my entire life.  Scratching clawing climbing on my belly searching for another quarter because I need it to buy food to live.

I fear that I will be watched by my government.  I feel that I will never be able to take a deep sigh of relief and look at the steaming pile of shit I just left behind me and be satisfied with it.

I just don’t feel that in 35 years I will be able to feel secure enough.  I feel that greed has taken hold of this country and I am being turned upside down by the people that want all the money.  I am being shaken to death.  Maybe that is what that feeling is in the pit of my heart?  Maybe it’s me being fleeced?  Being turned upside down and having my money shaken out of me.

In 2005 I had 50% more in my 401k than I do now. 50% FUCKING PERCENT….Can you imagine if Social Security had been privatized?  Can you freaking imagine?  Seriously?  I’m down 50% in 5 years?  Do you know how long it is going to take to get that money back?  Do you people realize that?  Keep peeing on my leg and tell me it is raining please.   I feel violated.  So filthily violated.

I’m afraid.  I’m very afraid.  I’m afraid that in the rich peoples zest to make money that I’m getting screwed.  Don’t believe me?  How about the fact that GM builds cars just long enough to beat out that 5 year payment. how about the fact that college, COLLEGE educations cost $40k a year for TEMPLE.  TEMPLE PEOPLE.  That is absurd.

I feel date raped and I wasn’t given a ruffie.  My mouth is being covered by the government.  It has wrapped it’s flag around my mouth and has slowly climbed on top of me.  I’m writhing around like a 12 year old girl about to be raped.  I don’t want this, NOOOOOO, Stop.  But her he comes, smirking.  He knows he was won.  he knows.  He has climbed on top of me.  Taken off my pants.  Laughed at me as I gag and cough with the flag around my mouth.  Snot comes out of my nose.  My eyes are welling.  I’m still fighting though.  I’m kicking him off.  I have managed to keep my shirt on and only allowed my pants to get down to my knees.  I cant roll over though because he will have my backside.  I want to shut my eyes and just let it be over.  But I can’t stop fighting.  I won’t let him win.  He can’t win.  I will break away.  It will get better it has to get better.  I feel sunlight or I see it…I feel something small, inside me fighting like hell, telling me not to give up.

I don’t know how it will get better but I feel it will.  I can’t be dragged down any longer.  I have to keep scratching and clawing my way through this life.  I have this blog and people read it.  politicians read and I have news for you, their are way more of us then there are of you people.  We will take our country back.  We will break away from this gang rape on our pride and country.  We will begin to feel proud again and realize that we can win that the minority isn’t in power.  That the rich white land owners don’t get their say anymore.  The ones cultivating it get a say for a change.

I feel like I have to keep fighting.  Like I can’t be raped anymore.  I can’t be violated anymore.  I won’t let it happen time and again.  I can’t let it happen and if that means running for office then maybe I should.  I can’t allow this to happen to me, you, my wife, my children, my country, my state.  I feel almost powerless but it is that little bit of power I cling to.  That almost that tells me it is worth it to keep doing what I’m doing.  That you do see the light, hang in there man, keep on keepin on man.

I feel that at some point things have to get better.  I don’t know when, but they will.  I still feel all those things up there in this post and that is the majority of the way I feel all the time.  I still have a ray of hope in me and struggle to feed that hope at times especially like today.  Today is one of those days that have seemed to happen a lot more often then they used to.  Tomorrow may be one too.  But I know that in the end I have to have hope.  I have to believe that all that bullshit I learned in school is what this country is made up of.  That even though some horrible people run this country there are some good people that will make it all right.

I feel that together we can continue to make a difference.  That this blog, this internet, this AWESOME new media outlet I have will produce change.  It will be the catalyst that brings hope to the millions, shit, tens of millions of people that want a better country.  That want to SHARE in the fruits of our labors.  That want to enjoy the first few tiers of Maslow’s Hierarchy and keep climbing up to make this country greater.

We have a long, long road ahead of us people.  We are the majority god damnit.  We have the power we just have to know how to use it, to wield it, to harness it.  We can do it, we can make change happen.

I feel better because i know there are a lot of you out there that feel like me.

I feel better because I know that you want change and you know it is coming.  It has too.  They can keep us down for only so long….only so long till we fight back.  Till we take it back.

“Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.” –Thomas Jefferson: his motto.

“As revolutionary instruments (when nothing but revolution will cure the evils of the State) [secret societies] are necessary and indispensable, and the right to use them is inalienable by the people.” –Thomas Jefferson to William Duane, 1803. FE 8:256

In answer to your first question asking “when”, the first question posed in your very first sentence…….

    The answer is 1/20/01

  2. liberalgeek says:

I hope you smoked a cigar after writing this one.

  3. anon says:

Republicans… its not the people, It is their philosophy that is the problem.

  4. Damn,

I took two shits and a piss just while reading all that! Totally disgusting, provocative, and heartbreaking at the same time.

    Good work, DMAB!

  5. Disbelief says:

And women say we don’t know how to talk.

  6. Tom S says:

At moments like this, I think about my ancestors.

I don’t know about you but my mothers family is Irish. Bad things happened, very bad things. My grandfather will be the first male member of our family to die of natural causes in known history. (the doctor asks if we have a history of heart failure, we don’t know) Through it all they survived, raised their children and lived meaningful lives. There were even occasional bright spots.

I think about the history of our country, Abe Lincoln just straight up suspended Habeas Corpus.

Things get bad, we persevere, things get better again.

Resist the urge to just point a finger at a vague entities like “corporations” and “the rich white land owners”. They only have money because we give it to them. Sure, GM makes some bad cars but no one is forcing people to buy them.

  7. RAY K> says:

So much to respond to. Let me just say at some point we changed from a democracy to something I would call a lobbyocracy. If you can afford to hire a K street lobbiest you can talk our legislator into passing legislation that fulfils your short term profit needs at the peoples expence. that`s not how it`s supposed to be. The ethanol lobby is a prime example, They forgot to mention that the price of food would go thru the roof when we put food in our gas tanks. There are hundreds of other examples of short term greed, but it`s late and I need to cry myself to sleep.

  8. Dominique says:

I am at once confused and concerned.

Isn’t DMAB the same guy who gave us gems like ‘QOD: Who still wears cologne’ and ‘QOD: top or bottom’??? If so, you either suffer from multiple personality disorder or I have misjudged you as someone who has the maturity of a 12 year old. If it’s MPD, I hope this version of you sticks around.

I’m a bit concerned with your tone. You sound almost suicidal. It’s a bit jarring coming from a guy whose posts are usually bubble gum for the brain; a guy who doesn’t seem to be the type to get too bogged down with anything too thinkie.

Here’s the thing DV, DMAB, DHB, whomever the fuck you are tonight, it’s going to be ok. Yes, our country needs some improvement. But we’re talking about a few tweaks, not a complete overhaul. This place is fucking awesome and I think we sometimes we get so focused on what’s wrong that we forget about what’s right. Watch Ganja Queen on HBO or any other documentary that gives you an insight into what other countries are like. It will give you a completely different perspective of America.

In America, if you’re willing to work hard – really hard – you can achieve almost anything you want. You can open a business, you can buy a home, you can travel the world, you can drive any kind of car you want, you can get an education (think about the countries that don’t even have that basic right), you can have as many children as you want, you can say what you want without fear of being imprisoned, you can go to the grocery store without worrying about it being blown up, you can walk down the street without fear of being kidnapped by guerrillas. The list goes on and on and on. These are luxuries that aren’t available everywhere. Yes, some countries have some of those luxuries, but few that have all of them.

So, buck up, dude. I feel GREAT because I AM PRIVILEGED to have been born here because my parents had the good sense to cross an ocean to get to the land of opportunity.

  9. mike w. says:

Interesting that you talk about revolution and defense of tyranny yet you rail against the 2nd Amendment and civilian ownership of weapons.

It’s as if you think the 1st Amendment would be sufficient if we were facing true tyranny (I.E. Mugabe) rather than an authoritarian like Bush.

  10. mike w. says:

“I know that we all have our differences but in the end the majority is supposed to win. The majority is supposed to have a say. ”

Nope. A tyranny of the majority is still tyranny. of course most ignorant voters in this country actually think we live in a “Democracy.” Thankfully they’re wrong and this is a Constitutional republic.

  11. liberalgeek says:

Mike – agreed. The next sentence is that the Constitution wins, which is distinctly different. The Constitution protects the minority from the majority.

  12. well then I guess we are screwed huh? The minority I speak of isn’t the blacks, hispanics or some oppressed people is my point Mike, Geek. The minority in this case have all the power, are siphoning off the money too. That is not who is intended to be the protected.

How about this, we are the minority because we have less of what they have, which is power

  13. dom,

it was high time I showed I have a little substance to me I guess.

  14. liberalgeek says:

I agreed, DV. But we are not a country of absolute control of the majority over the minority. But corporations are not people, voters of citizens.

  15. David says:

Well said. I couldn’t have summed up my feelings any better. I broke out in a sweat last night lying in bed, the anger overwhelming. I guess we continue on the path to acceptance or use the anger for a cause. Unfortunately a large majority of the disapproving 80% haven’t a clue what they are disapproving of, except maybe $4 gas. The media has yet to inform them of the true realities that have taken hold in our country and as long as the television works and SWAT hasn’t kicked in their door, they don’t really care. So while we may be in the majority, we are still a minority.

  16. Von Cracker says:

    Go watch V, you’ll feel better….

…and pray (if you do such a thing) for an Obama victory in November.

Things might get better…I can’t think it would get any worse!

  17. June says:

“When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always.”
    …. Gandhi

  18. arthur says:

seriously, your feelings of paranoia, despair, etc are indications of real problems. please take the time to talk to someone.

  19. meatball says:

Corporations aren’t all bad, rather the “badness” is fueled by the populace. The moneyed class is at once bad mouthed and idolized by the working stiff just trying to pay the mortgage.

Try withdrawing a bit from corporate servitude.Grow your own food, brew your own beer, drive a well yourself, convert your water heater to solar. Decide which conveniences are worth the price you are paying and which you can do yourself or without. Simple really.

But basically, most people are lazy (and ignorant of how to survive without corporations/government.

  20. But basically, most people are lazy

I can’t wait to see if you run for office again

  21. June says:

Most of the people I know have had the thoughts that you do, including me, That’s why I have that quote by Gandhi that I sent earlier taped up by my computer. That was mainly because I’m an antiwar activist and that’s really been the pits for the last 6 years. I don’t know if you get out in the world and do anything to try to make changes, but that’s what you have to do to stay off the pity pot. It doesn’t help to sit home, worry and complain.

  22. mike w. says:

Sometimes war and defensive violence are necessary, even justified. Even Ghandi and the Dali Lama understood that.

“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” – The Dali Lama (Seattle Times – May 15, 2001)

‘‘Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.’’ – Ghandi (page 446 of his autobiography)

“Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave. ”
    – Andrew Fletcher 1698.

The last quote is fitting considering gun control originated as a way to prevent newly freed black slaves from bearing arms. It has always been racist.

  23. Andy says:

But basically, most people are lazy

after they work 10-12 hrs a day to pay the bills

  24. Tom S says:

VC “…I can’t think it would get any worse!”

Do not ever ever ever say that about this country. There is no reason that the terrible things that happen abroad can’t happen here.

  25. Joanne Christian says:

Aren’t you expecting a baby soon? If so..great articulation of all those impending fears and responsibilities that lie ahead…if I have the wrong guy,… then I’ll get back to you.

  26. JC…yes, I have a baby momma cooking my loaf

  27. Joanne Christian says:

Well see that..while she’s cookin’..you’re stewin’….and responsibly!!! It’s going to be OK–not perfect…but so much better than any other choices out there. Have you ever been to a third world country? Your baby is going to be born in a place where right out the shoot..someone cares…and it’s not even mom and dad…it’s the government!!! They will be right there to see the little one is delivered by licensed, and certified practitioners, in a place that is inspected and licensed also. She will be numbered, and accounted for, so all her live long days he/she will forever stake claim as a United States citizen. Your new treasure will automatically inherit inalienable rights of a free education, and be given or subsidized food, housing, and medical care if the need should ever arise that you are unable to provide. Can’t speak much for the housing or the food–but the education and medical care is the finest in the world. So see that..no sooner has “Miniviti” received a social security card and 4 of your Maslow needs are checked off (I am assuming the belonging and self-esteem issues are covered by mom and dad). All that’s left is the self-actualization–and that’s where America is great…female astronauts, male strippers, black presidents, and scientologist actors! Everything is open for opportunity–if you have the doggedness to pursue it. The dismal U.S. you portray has overwhelmed you!! Break it down…one state at a time…we are in Delaware..and Delaware will have wind…one county at a time…in New Castle County…they have opened brand new libraries…I don’t know what town you are in..but in your home…you have celebratory mid-summer picnics w/ people who freely rant, rave, slander, and curse all across the internet and no one censors you—and yes…you will be bringing a little baby into this imperfect world real soon–no different than my grandmother who thought Pearl Harbor was the end of the world as she knew it–my folks who went “numb” when JFK was assassinated, and me who delivered a baby girl 7 days before 9/11, AND my sister was IN the Pentagon. Every one of us has felt that vise like grip of “but this isn’t Norman Rockwell”….you’re right…but moments are…pay attention to those moments…because no where else on earth will you be given so many of them…just by serendipitous nature of birthright. And for you Mister..it just might be time to self actualize yourself and run for that office–it is a wonderful purge of that sense of patriotism–no matter which side you see it–of all those civic lessons, guest speakers, half-mast flags,Labor Day picnics, and Olympic swimwear/headgear. Yup, looking at the BIG COUNTRY is daunting…looking locally can be managed and make a difference. Hang in there..do something..you only need to clean a corner for now….It’s ignoring your corner, that permits the overgrowth from the greater. As I’ve said before…”All politics is local”. So don’t let your fears and frustrations be so garganturan. The U.S. will right itself (no offense of term), certainly the first 230 years weren’t easy–we are a work in progress–PROGRESS being the operative. Now take that ruuffie you thought you were denied, get a good night’s sleep, and wake up darn glad you are American and speaka the English!!!!!

  28. Wow. A-Fu%&in’-men. Amen to what you said.

Anyone who denies what you wrote has their head in the sand.

Some of you folks have your head deep in the sand.

Very very deep. Nevermind, keep living in your bubble, when it pops, you’ll know.

  29. jen says:

Thank you, Joanne. That was wonderful. You are so right. If you are not involved in counseling or some other nuturing venture (besides motherhood), you should be.

OMG! It is 1:20. You people are so addicting. Gotta go to bed.

  30. Dana says:

    The liberal Geek wrote:

But corporations are not people, voters (or) citizens.

    Except that they are.

A corporation is a voluntary association of people who have come together for a purpose, normally the purpose of making money. A corporation as a separate entity is nothing more than a list of accounts, a holder of property and liability, a name on a piece of paper. It does not think, because it is not a sentient being.

Rather, the people who have organized the corporation think, and take decisions as to what actions the corporation will take.

I have been accused, in other places, of loving corporations, and it’s true: I do. Something like 80% of Americans who have jobs are employed not by government, but in the private sector, a big segment of that being those evil corporations. In their function of earning money, the corporations in American have provided jobs for people. As some of our friends on the left want to stick it to the corporations, they have forgotten that the enemy of the corporation is the enemy of the working man! Let’s say that you manage to stick it to some evil ol’ corporation, to the extent that it goes out of business, folds up, dies. The shareholders will lose value in their portfolios, but if they have been properly diversified, they won’t lose everything. The top corporate management will lose their jobs, but if it was a sizable enough corporation that these people were truly big earners, they will have diversified their holdings and emerge, poorer, but not poor.

But it is the first few levels of employees, the working men and the lower level managers, the ones who don’t have big stock portfolios, the ones who were living from paycheck- to- paycheck or just slightly better, they are the ones who will be out of work with few resources back on which to fall, they are the ones who will suffer most if the evil corporation falls, they are the ones that will bear the brunt if the irrational hatred of corporations gets its way in slaying some of the beasts.

  31. Dana says:

Joanne Christian, would that there were more people who were as clear-headed as you are.

  32. dana,

thanks for linking. I’d post a comment on your freaking blog but I get timed out b/c your freaking pages takes so goddamned long to freaking load. change that shit will ya…I can’t be the only one that has that issue bro

  33. mike w. says:

    works fine for me.

  34. Dana says:

Hmmm. I just signed back in, and the page loaded pretty quickly for me. I’m using a cable modem, and my site isn’t particularly graphics heavy.

  35. Dana says:

DTB: On my site there is a “theme Switcher” option. Try clicking on the “WordPress Default” option, which brings up a much simpler template; see if that works faster for you. But I don’t have as many plug-ins or graphics installed as you do, and no advertising at all.

  36. Amy, from the right says:

I am a Republican here in Delaware. So much so that I have been a delegate to the state convention for the past 5 years. You might be surprised to hear that many of us feel the exact same dread and mourning when we think of what our country has become. However, in my opinion, the biggest problem in this country is not corporations, its partisan beliefs and politics.

I am a Republican for many reasons. I do not believe in big government. I do not believe that anyone should ever be required to relinquish 50% of his or her earnings to the Federal Government. I do believe in a woman’s right to choose…whether or not to have unprotected sex, what form of birth control to use or whether or not to employ the “morning after” pill, but I do not believe in abortion. I do believe in the United States Constitution, a strong military, and states’ rights to self govern. I believe in America.

A woman with whom I work is a self proclaimed liberal. She is very intelligent, funny and I respect her opinion immensely. She and I differ politically in almost every way. When we first met this concerned me greatly. I certainly did not want our political differences to hamper our working relationship. However, what I have learned is we are not that far apart when it comes to our vision for America. Our biggest differences relate to the method of reaching that “Ideal America.” This relationship allowed me to see that the problem should not be attributed to us…entirely.

We, the people, are allowing the powers that be, whether it be Republican or Democrat, to pit us against one another. We should be a country of differing points of view. The ability to intelligently debate issues and voice our opinions is a large component of what makes our country great. Some of history’s greatest ideas were direct results of constructive debate. By working together, I believe that we can build something truly marvelous. However, it seems that all we are doing is tearing each other apart. The only people that this benefits are the politicians, on both sides of the political spectrum. He or she blows enough hot air to get him or her the party’s nomination then it becomes a contest of us against them. Republicans are told how evil the Democrat are and how they want to turn our country into a socialist cesspool with people standing in line for substandard medical care and shitting on the American Flag with no notion of personal accountability or responsibility. Democrats are told that the Republicans are trying to bring forth a new world order with corporations enslaving the populous, spewing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and leaving children to starve on the streets.

No one in their right mind would dare to cross over to the other side in the voting booth with all of the rhetoric fabricated by the parties’ leadership. Who does this partisan climate benefit? The people in power within both parties are the beneficiaries of our sad state. They benefit from the votes and admiration of the people and the kickbacks from the lobbyist. …AND WE KEEP ELECTING THEM!!!!

However, I did see a bumpersticker in Wilmington the other day that gave me hope, “Obama/ Lee.” Could it be that people are starting to awaken? Could it be that people are looking beyond party politics and seeing candidates? Do we need another term of either the Bush or Minner administrations? I have no problem lighting up both sides of the ballot, do you?

  37. Dominique says:

Very well put, Amy. I have always thought there were far fewer people on the far left and far right than there are right in the middle. The only problem is that those of us in the middle tend to be less vocal and less inclined to pull out our checkbooks, so we tend to not be catered to in quite the same way.

I like the world you describe, though. I hope one day we can get a little closer to it.

  38. Pandora says:

Agreed, Amy. It’s all about winning, about one side taking control, when balance works the best. Take the Supreme Court. I don’t want a completely liberal court. I want a balance of the best minds. I want vigorous debate, not blind ideology.

On this blog we have liberals, conservatives, independents and libertarians commenting. I have learned something from all groups.

  39. Von Cracker says:

I think the games republicans have played since Nixon have caused the “hyper-partisanship”.

    Play by the sword….blah, blah.

Anyway, I do believe we’re more similar than different, but the MSM and the Party Heads don’t want to talk about that….they need controversy in order to feed the Machine, and subsequently their bank accounts.

Here’s a suggestion though: If conservatives will stop demanding to have their particular ideas of how everyone should act, live, fornicate, along with not worrying about things that do not directly affect their own lives, we liberals will stop trying to make this country more equitable for all its citizens. Deal?

  40. dana?

it’s not allowing me to change your theme to liberal…

    nyuck, nyuck, nyuck

  41. mike w. says:

The problem with this is that liberals want to tell everyone else how to live just the same as conservatives, just on different issues. Also, by “trying to make this country more equitable” you do exactly that which you admonish Conservatives for – Telling people how to live their lives. Liberals do that as much, if not more than Conservatives. I’d prefer both sides quit telling me they know what’s best for me and just let me live my life. A free society demands inequality. You can’t make people equal without absolute control of people and resources (and even then they don’t end up equal because inequality is natural)

  42. um…no…you are wrong…

  43. mike w. says:

    Care to qualify that comment?

  44. Dana says:

Don: That’s because I don’t have a copy of your theme. You want to e-mail it to me, and I might just install it; y’all have a good theme! 🙂

  45. Dominique says:

    Mike –

Yes, both sides are trying to tell the other how to live. The only difference is that when liberals are trying to tell you how to live, it’s usually a matter of public safety rather than moral superiority. The only glaring exception to this would be the left’s position on the death penalty.

Conservatives, on the other hand, seem fond of infringing on rights pertaining to personal privacy. It’s really quite a shame. I’ve always thought that the Republicans would be so much more easy to embrace if they would let go of the whole Jesus thing.

  46. David says:

Amy , the truth is liberal policies haven’t worked any where and won’t work here. Partisanship for the sake of itself is silly. For the sake of joining together to reach goals is laudable.

  47. The problem with this is that liberals want to tell everyone else how to live just the same as conservatives

is it any mistake that “liberals” and “libertarians” are close in name? Liberals are telling conservatives in essence FUCK you, I will do what I want. If I want to be gay so what. Conservatives are saying NO being gay is wrong, you can’t be….

big diff bro. VC is closer to being right then you are. You are parrotting conservative radio when you say liberals are shoving their beliefs down your throat.

Conservatives can’t sit by and let it happen, they feel it is the decay of society and have to “guide” thier beliefs in a certian direction to avoid that degredation

  48. dana,

    whatever you “lime”y bastard

    I crack me up

  49. Von Cracker says:

    Schaivo
    Abortion
    Religiousness
    Sex & Sodomy
    Misogyny
    Miscegenation

And I don’t believe that liberal, but not oppressive, taxation equals control

  50. Dominique says:

    ‘Miscegenation’

Not gonna lie…I had to consult dictionary.com. Not proud.

  51. crackberry told me you were running an errand! fucker!

  52. Von Cracker says:

David, the Founding Fathers certainly did not possess a conservative spirit. If you believe that not to be true, then I suggest you start learning about the context of their actions and writings.

I agree with your comparison, Dom….though I believe the ends justify the means as it pertains to Public Safety. In the long run, it saves money and lives…plus it makes a nice environment for discovery and innovation.

I don’t understand your Death Penalty point though….Plenty of opponents just believe it’s hypocritical, as do I. But the reasoning for it (as a deterrent) doesn’t fly since a deterrent must be swift, severe, and certain. The way the DP is currently applied, it’s only one of the three.

  53. Von Cracker says:

The errand is on hold for now, DV….ugh.

  54. mike w. says:

“Yes, both sides are trying to tell the other how to live. The only difference is that when liberals are trying to tell you how to live, it’s usually a matter of public safety rather than moral superiority. The only glaring exception to this would be the left’s position on the death penalty.”

Oh, so it’s OK to tell me how to live if you’re superiority complex stems from a “public safety” concern rather than a moral one?

Bleating on and on about how you need to tell others how to live in the name of “public safety” / “common good” is just as wrong as doing it for moral reasons.

My rights and liberty to live free are not subject to your concerns about “public safety” That is a BS excuse for restricting my rights, and it’s an argument I hear all the time for why we need gun control.

We would increase “public safety” if we did away with the 4th and 5th Amendments. Denying unpopular groups like the KKK and Nazis their 1st Amendment rights would increase public safety. The same argument could be made for stripping all muslims of their freedom of religion because of the “public safety threat” of radical islam.

Guess what? We hold individual rights above crackpot “public safety” concerns all the time in this country, ESPECIALLY with concern to a priori restrictions on rights (like is the case with most gun control)

your public safety argument is weak.

  55. Dominique says:

Oh dear god. I’m not a liberal. I’m just giving you an analysis of the liberal platform vs. the conservative platform as I see them.

Your obvious desire/need for conflict is bordering on ridiculous. It’s like you’re just DARING someone to try to take away your rights, like if you don’t have this fight you have nothing. Is there anyone actually starting a movement to overturn 2A? Jesus. How much more clear can I be. I support 2A. I simply don’t lay awake at night worrying about it. Chill, dude.

  56. mike w. says:

The “public safety” argument is used to infringe upon more than just the 2A, and it’s one that holds no water. If you’d read my comment you’d see that the 2A wasn’t the only thing I discussed.

  57. Parasite consumer aka Human says:

I dont know of your politics much being an Australian infact i couldnt careless, if i had it my way i wouldnt be part of any.
