Sunday Morning Open Thread with Coffee

To John Carney’s credit, his campaign has removed my Obama pics from his website. To his detriment, he still has not issued any statement concerning his position on Governor Minner’s veto of the eminent domain bill.    According to a commenter over at Down with Absolutes, Carney is actually opposed to the bill.  So it […]

UPDATED: Minner Vetos Eminent Domain Bill

Filed in National by on June 28, 2008 50 Comments

I guess we should have expected this. Gov. Ruth Ann Minner announced today she is vetoing legislation that would have redefined “public use” in the eminent domain law and made it harder for government agencies to take private land. The Legislature passed Senate Bill 245 on June 12, after months of negotiations between parities involved […]

I’m getting a bad feeling

Filed in National by on June 28, 2008 41 Comments

For the last few months a knot has been tightening in my stomach. The idea that Bush/Cheney will leave the White House quietly is well… absurd. I am fully expecting them to go out with a bang. How big of a bang is anyone’s guess… One big enough to tie the next President’s hands while […]

Role Reversal

John Carney had a good week. Perhaps the best of his campaign. He was lauded for his work in brokering a deal between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva. So Jack Markell is trying to get back into the game with universal healthcare: “[Markell’s] purpose Friday was to persuade voters that Delaware residents should have universal access […]

My Trip To The Christiana Mall

Filed in National by on June 27, 2008 22 Comments

A week ago, my fellow blogger Dominique dared me to go to the mall on a Friday night.  Today, I took her up on it, sort of.  I arrived at about 5:15 and walked around for close to an hour. There were a number of people that I would be scared to run into in […]

Mystery

Filed in National by on June 27, 2008 23 Comments

Earlier this evening a strong thunderstorm plowed through Wilmington around 5:00.   During the storm, after seeing out dark red blob covering Wilmington on the radar screen, I heard this strange siren that I have not heard before.   I assumed it was a tornado siren, as you will hear me saying on the video. Obviously, […]

Who thinks we have plenty of oil in the ground and we just have to drill in the arctic and off the coast of Florida to get gas prices back to $0.90 per gallon? And who thinks we are at the end of an oil based economy and we are not really prepared for the […]

Dow Crosses Into Bear Market Territory– Reuters The Dow Jones industrial average of stocks slid on Friday into bear market territory as investors fretted about the impact of record oil prices and mounting credit losses in the financial sector. Currently the DOW is at 11316.79 AWESOME. I wish we would have privatized Social Security!

Chairman Wolfgang von Baumgart and more…

Filed in National by on June 27, 2008 17 Comments

The former secretary and current chairman of the Independent Party of Delaware sounds more like a villain out of the Harry Potter series than a political official.  But hey, as Jason has said, there is more comedy gold in this News Journal piece than just funny names. Namely, the way the party contacts its members […]
