Little Help for a Newbie…

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008

Tonight is the end of the legislative session in Dover.  I plan on going down to check out the procedings tonight, but I have never set foot inside of Leg Hall.  Does anyone have any advice/warning/tips about my trip?  I plan to get there around 7PM and stick around for a few hours.

Who else is going?

Be prepared for an ID check and a metal detector – you will be assigned a visitor’s pass upon entering the building.

Some people consider it beneficial to stand outside, shirtless and with Sharpee.

  3. There is plenty of parking around leg hall, just avoid thosee reserved by named signs for the august body’s members.
The best way to get to the government is to stick with 13 South after getting off of 1 where it says Dover Downs [you will not see a single sign pointing the way to your state government until you are on top of it].
The left turn you are looking for is just after a Duncan Donuts at least a mile down the road.
Bring picture ID. You will see a great crowd hanging around in the lobby and through the halls. The place is smallish with two flo0rs of offices and a governor on top.

I’ll have ID, no problem. How is Internet access? Any wifi?

Glad you asked the question, Geek, cause I have one:

Are cell phones allowed inside Leg Hall? I was there once, but I forget.

  6. RickJ19958 says:

I’ve had a cell phone in there.

Agendas can be found at the south end of the basement hallway. Expect to be bored, unless something you care about is coming up for a vote. Legislators and staff will be feeling under the gun tonight, so don’t expect much chit-chat. At midnight the House will stop the clock and members will spend twenty minutes or so on pointless inanities and how much they love each other and their jobs.

  8. Arthur Downs says:

I usually have a cell phone with me when I make rather regular visits but these are evenings when they are not in session. The guards are very polite and helpful.

Taking ones shirt of inside the building is frowned upon.

  10. The left turn you are looking for is just after a Duncan Donuts at least a mile down the road.

    Surely this is Freudian?

If you continue south on 13, past the Dunkin Donuts, you can take a right on Court Street (at a WaWa) and that will take you directly to Leg Hall.

    Mike: Good one.

    How about cameras?

  12. delawaredem says:

    How about laptops?

  13. liberalgeek says:

I plan to bring both a laptop and a camera.

  14. er, that was a right turn, Mike is correct *sigh* glad you made it!
