Disney World To Close The Only Attraction I Really Like

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008

Boing Boing has the story.

Oh no! Walt Disney World’s Adventurer’s Club — a wonderfully eccentric nightclub/cabaret that features “on stage” character actors as well as remote-controlled robotic masks, puppets, instruments, stools, and other gags that interact with the guests — is scheduled to close!

The Adventurer’s Club is hands-down the coolest and most interesting attraction at Disney World, but it resides in the otherwise drab and uninteresting Pleasure Island nightclub district, which is going to shut down, and take the Adventurer’s Club with it.

Malaise.

I’m not a huge Disney fan, but the kids like it so I’ve been a couple of times and the Adventurers Club was always a highlight for me.

I haven’t been to Disney World since the late 1980’s. So I have no idea what you are talking about.

Me either. I hate Disney, and only went once on a press junket my wife had to take. But I remember the nightclub. It was the weirdest experience I’ve ever had in a club, and the perfect Disney metaphor — I looked around and realized I was in the only nightclub in the world where nobody was going to go home with anybody except who they arrived with.

Can we quick form a corporation and buy up the Adventure’s Club equipment, etc. and bring it back to DE?

Oh, fuddy duddies. Disney is awesome. I’ve never been to the place, we just went for the first time and I happily stuck to the kids’ stuff.

Also, don’t despair! – I heard they plan keep the Club, they just need to revamp it, and they are likely going to be incorporating the idea into big new stuff they are planning.
