The Senate has voted to suspend the rules and consider an override of Governor Minner’s veto of Senate Bill 245.  According to Commenter Sagacious Steve, who will be liveblogging the events in the comments below, the Senate Clerk was reading the  Governor’s veto message into the record. Is there hope after all?   For Mike Matthews […]

‘Club For Growth’ is Needed in Delaware

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008 11 Comments

The Club for Growth is an organization with an affiliated PAC that recruits more conservative candidates to run in the Republican primaries against what they perceive as “RINO” incumbents, or who are not sufficiently supportive of a socially conservative, low-tax and limited-government agenda. The Club has had success in running in open races with the candidates they endorse, but less […]

Let’s play, “Can you find the lie?”

A group of American advisers led by a small State Department team played an integral part in drawing up contracts between the Iraqi government and five major Western oil companies to develop some of the largest fields in Iraq, American officials say. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who said on Fox News this month: “The […]

I don’t and never will buy bottled water

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008 17 Comments

It’s a complete waste. If you stop to think about it buying a 20oz soda for a $1.45 is a rip off when you can buy a 2ltr for $1.50 at the grocery store. It is freaking beyond me how people are so freaking gullible as to buy tap water in a freeking bottle.

Mike Castle Pisses on Poker Players

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008 6 Comments

I just got this email from Full Tilt Poker: Dear Jason330, Last week, the Congress considered a common-sense bill to save your right to play poker. This important bill was defeated, and according to our records, your Representative cast the deciding vote against it! As the Poker Players Alliance has been warning since last week, […]

Disney World To Close The Only Attraction I Really Like

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008 5 Comments

Boing Boing has the story.   Oh no! Walt Disney World’s Adventurer’s Club — a wonderfully eccentric nightclub/cabaret that features “on stage” character actors as well as remote-controlled robotic masks, puppets, instruments, stools, and other gags that interact with the guests — is scheduled to close! The Adventurer’s Club is hands-down the coolest and most […]

Democrats, Let’s get serious about ending abortion…

Filed in National by on June 30, 2008 44 Comments

…by ending unwanted pregnancies. A recent study showed that 49% of the pregnancies concluding in 1994 were unintended; 54% of these ended in abortion. Clearly, if we want to get some traction on reducing the number of teenager pregnancies we should look toward the “pro-life” movement as partners rather than adversaries. It is a well […]

Delaware Bloggers Conference Committee Forming

Filed in National by on June 29, 2008 40 Comments

Last year Jason and Dave Burris came up with an idea to have an annual bloggers convention/conference.  The idea seemed to be received with a great deal of interest, but died on the vine.  Several of us here at DL have decided to pursue the idea with more committment.  Jason, Pandora and I have promised […]

Minner’s Reason

The News Journal has updated its online story with Minner’s statement to lawmakers as to her reasons for vetoing the Eminent Domain Bill. [T]he governor wrote that the bill could restrict the state’s ability to get an easement on private property for beach preservation or other purposes and be more costly to taxpayers. Sunday Morning Open Thread with Coffee

To John Carney’s credit, his campaign has removed my Obama pics from his website. To his detriment, he still has not issued any statement concerning his position on Governor Minner’s veto of the eminent domain bill.    According to a commenter over at Down with Absolutes, Carney is actually opposed to the bill.  So it […]

UPDATED: Minner Vetos Eminent Domain Bill

Filed in National by on June 28, 2008 50 Comments

I guess we should have expected this. Gov. Ruth Ann Minner announced today she is vetoing legislation that would have redefined “public use” in the eminent domain law and made it harder for government agencies to take private land. The Legislature passed Senate Bill 245 on June 12, after months of negotiations between parities involved […]

I’m getting a bad feeling

Filed in National by on June 28, 2008 41 Comments

For the last few months a knot has been tightening in my stomach. The idea that Bush/Cheney will leave the White House quietly is well… absurd. I am fully expecting them to go out with a bang. How big of a bang is anyone’s guess… One big enough to tie the next President’s hands while […]

Role Reversal

Filed in National by on June 28, 2008 16 Comments

John Carney had a good week. Perhaps the best of his campaign. He was lauded for his work in brokering a deal between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva. So Jack Markell is trying to get back into the game with universal healthcare: “[Markell's] purpose Friday was to persuade voters that Delaware residents should have universal access […]

A week ago, my fellow blogger Dominique dared me to go to the mall on a Friday night.  Today, I took her up on it, sort of.  I arrived at about 5:15 and walked around for close to an hour. There were a number of people that I would be scared to run into in […]

Mystery

Earlier this evening a strong thunderstorm plowed through Wilmington around 5:00.   During the storm, after seeing out dark red blob covering Wilmington on the radar screen, I heard this strange siren that I have not heard before.   I assumed it was a tornado siren, as you will hear me saying on the video. Obviously, it […]
