If you missed Hardball tonight you have got to watch this clip!

I have dreamed of this moment. It was so sweet I was actually applauding at the end.

  1. Can’t access YouTube right now, but I’m guessing it’s the clip where Matthews totally eviscerates right-wing robot Kevin James (I thought he was the fat guy on that TV show).

Of course, Chris shouldn’t shout too loud. He claimed the USS Cole was bombed under Bush. Sheesh, Chris…ruining a great moment by fucking up recent history.

Either way, a great moment of television. Wish more left-wingers were bulldogs like that.

  2. jason330 says:

Chris Mathews is hardly a left winger Hube,,,I mean Mike.

He was a huge war cheerleader, but I am glad to see that reality is begining to creep into this type of show,

  3. No, I mean I wish more left-wingers were like that. I’m not saying Matthews is a left-winger at all.

  4. jason330 says:

Oh. I agree. The left’s version of fighting back against right-wing crazebags has been to curl up in a fetal position.

  5. Von Cracker says:

    Beautiful.

That gasbag received the shaming he deserved!

  6. kavips says:

It wouldn’t hurt to resurrect that old line from the 60’s.

Not all Republicans are stupid…. BUT ALL STUPID PEOPLE ARE REPUBLICANS…….

Imagine….. not knowing anything about what you are talking about:

“I was unaware of the expiration of the SEU oversight board.

  7. A. Bundy says:

“It’s not that liberals don’t know anything, its just that so much of what they do KNOW ain’t so.”

  8. Brian says:

Well, Kevin James proved to the world he knows no history, no understanding of politics, and has no qualifications to do what he does. Let’s see 1938 Hitler and Chamberlin signed the Munich Agreement giving the Sudetenland in Chezchoslovakia to the german reich. Imagine this, appeasement is something right wing conservatives cannot understand becuase they consistently do it without knowing what they are doing?

  9. Dorian Gray says:

I will admit that there are some conservative intellectuals, but clearly the loud-mouth pundits like Rush and Hanity don’t fit the bill.

This douche bag started yelling straightaway. He was just interesting in bashing BHO without listening to the issue and making a rational argument.

This post was about a specific person acting a specific way. This is common behavior for a GOP robot. Maybe you don’t like Matthews, but what relevance does that have to this seven minutes of video.

    A. Bundy doesn’t like “liberals” because what we know ain’t so. We do know history though and this fucking clown sure didn’t.

  10. Sagacious Steve says:

I actually think that Matthews is doing penance for characterizing Bush as a down-to-earth guy (in contrast to his despised Clintons) and helping to paint Gore and Kerry as elitists. Remember how he praised Bush as a ‘towel-snapper’, as if that had anything to do with being a good President?

He now, far too late, sees the profound damage this pathological numbskull has done to the country, and, in his guilt, he’s taking out his anger on other, less gifted, enablers.

  11. jason330 says:

far far far far far far to late.

    *sigh*

I wonder how Mike Castle will do penance for his 8 years of Bush enabling?

    Ha! I crack myself up.

  12. Pandora says:

I agree that Matthews has been an ass, but this smackdown was soooo sweet. Dare I hope to see more of this? (my turn to *sigh*)

Actually I think Matthews turn has less to do with penance for his past, and more to do with Keith O. breathing down his neck. In the last few primary contest “shows” Chris has taken a back seat to Keith. Matthews is trying to remain relevant, and if that means taking down a few loud-mouth, blank slate conservatives, well… who am I to complain?

  13. Sagacious Steve says:

Or maybe it has to do with his stated desire to run for the US Senate from Pennsylvania. With Arlen Specter seemingly obsessed more about whether the NE Patriots stole signals from the Eagles during the Super Bowl than with the Patriot Act, it looks like another D pickup waiting to happen in 2010.

  14. Pandora says:

Ooooh, I forgot about that! Shame on me since I was the one that posted that story on DL!

When it comes to Matthews I see a perfect storm brewing.

  15. Truth Teller says:

AS I alerted you yesterday that this was a great clip. I noticed toward the end the Jerk tried to blame everything on Clinton. I always find it odd that everytime this subject comes up neither side ever mentions the fact that the 242 Marines killed in Beruit in 1983 under Regan’s watch with out a response was the incident that caused the Arab groups to believe that our country would not respond and thus was the cause of all the terror that followed.

  16. liberalgeek says:

Wait… Is that appeasement? I’m so confused. And let’s be honest. How many of us knew what Chamberlain did before Matthews clarified it?

  17. Pandora says:

I plead the 5th on the details surrounding 1938, however I did know what appeasement meant. I do it every day with my kids.

Mr. Pandora had all the details. What a geek! 😉

  18. Truth Teller says:

LG if they would teach history in school today maybe more of us would. After all President Bush’s press spokewoman had no Idea what the Cuban Missel flap was all about I hate to say this but it was Matthews who brought this fact to light. When she was asked that question she had a blank stare and admitted that she didn’t know what they were talking about

  19. Truth Teller says:

LG heres one does anyone know the History behind the Sudanland flap??????

  20. Pandora says:

My money is on Brian knowing.

BTW Brian, hope you’re feeling better.

  21. cassandra m says:

That was nicely done by Matthews. Deconstructing a stupid talking point by highlighting the fact that the conveyor of said talking point has no bloody clue of what he is talking about.

Matthews was subject to a couple of big push back campaigns from the Daily Kos and Americablog (I think) a few times this election season for some crazy ass stuff he said about HRC. Lots of emails and letters to MSNBC as well as to sponsors. I think that he actually apologized for one of those comments, but he has been abit more careful since.

  22. Al Mascitti says:

“Or maybe it has to do with his stated desire to run for the US Senate from Pennsylvania.”

He has since said he wasn’t serious.

  23. Brian says:

TT In 1938 Neville Chamberlin proclaimed we will have peace in our time. Because he successfully negotiated away the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia to Adolph Hitler who promised that since this area was primarily German speaking it should be part of the German Reich. Chamberlin went over to ensure that the British interest was represented at the table as Italy and the fascists from Spain were both there and the British were worried about the possibility their access to the Mediterranean could be impaired if they blocked the deal to partition Czechoslovakia.

Stalin rejected the offer out of hand saying “this is the first march towards war with the motherland by the fascist menace…” as he was still stinging over the imprisonment of German communists who he thought failed to do their duty.

Chamberlin on the other hand was direct that if the rights of the British Empire are maintained in their navigation lanes in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean were not impaired then Hitler could take this territory as long as he promised not to take additional territory into Reich.

This Chamberlain said would maintain the balance of power on the continent and prevent open war between France, Germany and Britain. Of course Hitler broke the Munich Agreement and expanded into as many territories as he wanted through preemptive wars to protect German citizens in Danzig Poland creating the conditions for WWII.

This is the correct definition of appeasement of an expansionist super power.

The point of this sorely mistaken commentator and the emporer Bush made was that the democrats intend to do the same as if negotiation, which we are NOT doing now should NOT be done because it would be perceived as appeasement.

This despite the fact that both Condi Rice and Robert Gates have repeatedly urged the US to do so, and to not follow the road of expanding the war in the middle east. On top of that, the the emporer Bush had the nerve to make the statements about the rise of Hitler in the Jewish Knesset dredging up the most horrible memory of the entire Jewish people during their happiest celebration to try to sell them and us a new war with Iran.

It is a false historical analogy and is based on the false assumption that diplomatic negotiations have anything to do with appeasement…I could add more but hopefully you get the point.

  24. Truth Teller says:

Very good Brian An A+ good job

  25. Pandora says:

    Told ya so!

  26. liz allen says:

and it was George Bush’s grandfather Prescott who aided and abetted Hitler financially? The apple doesnt fall from the tree.

  27. Brian says:

    Pandora,

Thank you for asking again…..I am just back from the hospital so I am still a little out of it….they say things should be fine within the month. The way I feel right now I wish they would hook me up to a vodka IV.

  28. Bill Dunn says:

    Quote of the Week:
    Mark Green on Chris Mathews:
“Kevin…..You know the first thing you have to do when you dig yourself into a whole…….
    STOP DIGGING! Kevin….Stop Digging…”

    I love that!!!!!

  29. Truth Teller says:

Cezchoslovakia didn’t exsist before the first World War and was created as part of the 1918 peace agreement it had been a festering sore in the minds of the German people until it was resolved in 1938-39. This agreement only embolden Hitler and led to WW2

  30. Brian says:

You are correct but can you contend that that the partition of that country did not lead to world war II AFTER the munich agreement? And did this embolen Hitler or merely allow him to enact a pre-existsing plan?

You see, the problem is you are not putting this into its historical context TT. The context was that all possible avenues of negotiation had already falied among EUROPEAN powers, the Americans were still neutral at that point.

  31. He now, far too late, sees the profound damage this pathological numbskull has done to the country, and, in his guilt, he’s taking out his anger on other, less gifted, enablers.

    *
hu, Mascitti sort of apologized on air today for having bought into Bush as the great unifier.

  32. Actually I think Matthews turn has less to do with penance for his past, and more to do with Keith O. breathing down his neck. In the last few primary contest “shows” Chris has taken a back seat to Keith.
    *
I concur. Word is that Olbermann has taken over programming and that Matthews might not get a contract renewal. He is a putz who loves him some Bushco and the public has turned on Bushco. Matthews is dried up and the network isn’t going to keep paying him the millions he is getting now.

  33. Arius says:

You’re not a good democrat, liberal or american if you applaud anything that scumbag chris matthews does or anyone at msnbc.

    NO OBAMA- EVER!

  34. Von Cracker says:

    Hey! Another Absolutist!

    Fantastic….

    Is this Arius Bundy?

  35. Truth Teller says:

Has anyone caught the NRA love fest today however Good old Huck tried a joke that was in very bad taste

  36. Pandora says:

I wish Arius would come out and tell us how he/she really feels.

  37. Brian says:

I wish Arius would read a history book.

  38. Truth Teller says:

Yes Brian we were netural and FDR had to carry the Rebubs (AMERICA FIRSTERS) kicking and screaming into helping England remember his leand least plan which they fought it wasn’t untill 12/07/42 that everyone got on board

  39. Brian says:

TT That is right, but it is not the whole story. More than that, we wanted to support Britain, but were bound by the neutrality act despite the fact that German U-boats had targeted American ships. Before the Munich Agreement the Nazi menace was still working on the age old German dream of controlling the shipping lanes that made the British Empire such a powerhouse and it was the hegemony of shipping that the British sent Chamberlin to protect in Munich, as they knew a war would have destroyed (which it did) their ability to ferry supplies from Egypt to their African Colonies and could impact the trade and shipyards across northern England, Scotland and Belfast. At the time they were involved in bitter negotiations with the Irish over independence, and were having enough problems hanging on to their empire. Just as the Tanaka memorandum was busy trying to create a Japanese empire out of Manchukuo, Korea and China, and my granddad was working desperately to stop.

But it was not Hitler who scared the British as much as FDR’s statement that once the allies won the war he was going to personally “end imperialism everywhere forever,” when he told Churchill that in Malta during the war they say, that Churchill dropped the cigar from his mouth and just said “well, well, well…”

The English knew they could fight off Hitler’s war machine with American help, but they were terrified that Roosevelt would do for Europe what he had done for America.

While my grandfather was in Indo-China, Thailand and China at the time, one of his relatives was doing the busy work of diplomacy on this issue so I was fortunate to hear some of these stories when I was a kid….

So these arguments that we are doing something wrong in NEGOTIATING and using diplomacy, and calling them appeasement, to me sound absolutely ludicrous.

  40. Brian says:

I am in solidarity with Biden, “this is bullshit.”

  41. david says:

Yeah, that clip was embarrassing. I hope you guys enjoy because Christine would wipe the floor on that issue.

Presidential level negotiations with Iran would be wrong at least without the precondition that they stop aiding and abetting the killing of our troops. Emissaries to send a message that we are serious about their nuclear program being civilian and open completely to their voluntary treaty obligations under the IAEA is one thing.

Going hat and hand and rolling out the red carpet to them is another. It would be appeasement. It would give them the one thing they want. Time to build a nuke.

  42. Truth Teller says:

Yes Brian Churchill did drop his cigar when FDR suggested that any of the possions who helped fight the enemy would be given their indenpendince after the war we kept our word for the Phillipeens but France didn’t for Indo China or Algeria and look at what a mess that was India didn’t come into the mix because Gundi was netural and as far as Irland goes they kept their shore light on to aid the German Uboats to help sink the supply ships and troop ships from America to England.
Also one of the big mistakes the Brits made in Indo China was to put the troops of Japan in charge of security until the French could take over this led to the Viet Min who had fought Japan to turn against the French which led to the Seato pact signed by Ike which got us involved in Nam. Also one of the big pushers of this war was the Arch bishop of NEW YORK Cardnial Spellman because the french south was Catholic.

And most of all let us not forget that Ho Chi Min hero was none other than GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON

  43. Frieda Berryhill says:

    Brain you are correct
“since this area was primarily German speaking it should be part of the German Reich. ”
Since Hitlers first stated goal was the “unification of All German people,” Chamberlain thought that was not an unreasonable demand. So he got the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia Danzig from Poland, part of France and the annexation of Austria.
It was only AFTER this goal was reached that he changed is theme to “Lebensraum” (Room to live). The rest is history.

  44. Truth Teller says:

Gay Marriage approved in California I was against this at first until I was told that I didn’t have to leave my wife and marry a man. So now it doesn’t bother me at all

  45. Brian says:

As long as I can have a peaceful life and a Chinese wife I do not care what other people do.

  46. Truth Teller says:

I like others was shocked to find out that Bush gave up Golf in support of the troops and lied about it.
However we can hardly blame him after all Golf is a game of numbers.

YOU YELL FOUR SCORE SIX AND RECORD FIVE

  47. Brian says:

Bush gave up his golf balls and I hear passed them to John McCain whose bearings needed to be adjusted by Lieberman.
