Fraud Copeland Attemps To Distance Himself From Crook McDowell

Filed in National by on April 28, 2008

I’m not surprised that Senator “I was for Blue Water Wind before I was against it” is trying to move away from the transparently corrupt Harris McDowell.

Statement by Citizens for Clean Power in response to Copeland announcement:

Today, Sen. Charlie Copeland agreed with Citizens for Clean Power that Sen. McDowell should release all documents responsive to our request. I’ve requested that the documents be provided by May 2, 2008.

We’ve asked for documents that focus on the price of the McDowell hearings – money that was authorized by someone, payable to some persons, for some unknown services and costs, and paid in some unknown amounts. Taxpayers await the Committee’s response.

Thank you, Senator Copeland.

Pat Gearity, Citizens for Clean Power

What a low risk fraudulent move by Copeland. What Copeland needs to do is come clean and admit that he has been working with McDowell to derail the Blue Water Wind deal.

Don’t be sad for being wrong about all of this, J. It really was the Senate D’s the whole time. I know it’s disappointing. Buck up, little camper.

  2. RSmitty says:

So, J, correlating your adoration of Copeland and their letter response, are you saying that Citizens for Clean Power can’t think on their own and are easily duped?

  3. jason330 says:

I say good for Citizens for Clean Power for highlighting Copeland’s hypocrisy.

Copeland was in on the secret meeting with Speck to put the PSC on trial.

Copeland failed to sign the minority energy hearing report and stuck with McDowell’s BS report.

Copeland has never supported the Blue Water Wind deal.

Copeland’s claims to be in favor of wind power are so brazenly fraudulent that it makes me laugh how exposed he is going to be on this issue.

    You guys should pick Buckson.

  4. Disbelief says:

I wish I had enough blog-stature to refer to jason as ‘J’. I’d probably get slapped down: “Its ‘Mr. Jason’ to you, son.”

  5. Disbelief says:

We’d rather keep Buckson on Levy Court. What’s the point of putting a decent politician (which there are few of) on a pointless job like Lt. Gov.?

  6. liberalgeek says:

Actually, now McDowell has the opportunity to reveal Charie as a fraud. Granted, he will reveal himself as a self-serving politician on the payroll of Delmarva in the process. But then again, we already know that…

  7. RSmitty says:

Dis, while using ‘J’ is something you can strive for (and I fully support your using of it), you can practice by using ‘Z’, for zero. I would tell you to use the number 0, but in this funky font, you can’t tell the difference between it (0) and the lower-case ‘o’. ‘Z’ it is.

‘J’ – I’m poking sticks all over the place today. Consider yourself poked. Using the Citizens for Clean Power nice letter to propogandize your issue. Shame on you. Poke poke poke.

  8. FSP says:

Smitty — Jason is crushed by this. I’m sure Copeland knows that the documents in question will show that he had nothing to do with Speck other than attending one breakfast meeting in a crowded restaurant with a bunch of other people.

    It’s a bad day in J-land.

  9. self-serving politician

    bit redundant…ain’t it?

I agree, DV. Geek’s upset win was quite crushing to the masses.

No better argument for leaning left November 2008.

  13. kavips says:

Back to thread. Copeland is smart to run the other way. Three Dem’s are the core of the problem. We know which three.

If Republicans want to win seats on the Senate, there is one seat up this fall where 90% of Delaware will cheer if the incumbent loses. That would be a tremendous transfusion for a dying party. Find someone and let the fireworks begin.

  14. jason330 says:

Incumbents are nearly impossible to dislodge.

This is an honest question; where is McDowell in more danger, a primary or general election?

  15. Pandora says:

My guess? McDowell is in more danger in the primary, because I think in the general there will be a lot of straight Dem voting due to the Presidential race. Having said that, his primary opponent will have to be viable. I like Charles Potter. Can he challenge McDowell… I’m not sure. He has some issues (I’ve heard him speak on bringing back the Wilmington School District, despite our limited tax base) that make voters wary.

  16. FSP says:

    McDowell’s not up this year.

  17. Pandora says:

Oops! My bad! Still I’ll stick by my primary answer.

In Saturday’s debate, bringing back the Wilmington School District had alot of support in the room. I take your point re: limited tax base, but I’d be on the watch for some energy gathering on this.

  19. Campaigner says:

I have it on first hand knowledge that Charles Potter, Jr. plans to primary McDowell in 2010.

Councilman Potter serves the general area around P.S. duPont School (his alma mater)..from Miller Rd. (Home Depot) to Market Stree from 3oth to Washington St. ext. to city limits.

The residents of this area, mainly homeowners, are interested in having neighborhood schools and local control….these voters are not ‘wary’ of Potter’s ideas.

On the issue of viability in 2006 Potter was in a four way race for the 1st Senatorial District (which is larger than the 1st council district and includes suburban areas) where he drew 35% of the vote. McDowell, in there for 32 years , got less that 50% of the vote (Candidates Les Hendrick and Thornton Carroll split the 13%remainder).

The Daniello Dems threw everything they had in 2006….shoot! even Nancy Cook hauled her broad butt up here to work for HMcD on election day. Thick as thieves………..

Come 2009 those who are truly interested in not only supporting one of the most reputable electeds in Delaware and finally moving McDowell out should get in touch with Councilman Potter at cpjr00@aol.com (that’s zero, zero NOT oh, oh) he is always glad to talk politics.

    Dave –

That reminds me, why can’t you Republicans get you shit together and beat Thurman Adams?

I mean, jeez, you guys suck.

  23. Pandora says:

I like Potter. He’s always available. As far as a city school district I understand the community support. What I don’t understand is where the money would come to fund such a venture. As a city resident this concerns me. Show me the tax base, and I’ll sign on.

  24. Rebecca says:

    Pamdora,

Do all those EXPENSIVE condos on the Riverfront help out with the tax base? Wondering?

  25. Pandora says:

Not sure how much, Rebecca. I met with the mayor several months ago and he cited the tax base as a problem when it came to funding a city district. I also met with Councilman Potter and Rep. Dennis Williams and they were divided when it came to this issue. Potter, who I really like, was for it. Williams, who’s been hit and miss with me, was dead set against it.

Mayor Baker ran off a list of governments buildings and other establishments that don’t pay taxes. So… I’m not against the idea. Just show me the money. After all, if we’re going to do this, we have to do it right.

  26. Dana Garrett says:

Does this mean he’s for the BWW project now?

  27. cassandra m says:

Rebecca, the riverfront development (as does other city development — Market St and so on) get some funds from the city in the forms of incentives, tax privileges and the like. No idea if any of these ventures have paid back their parts of the city outlays but that is the thing to find out. What is not clear to me in the land grab at the Riverfront is if Buccini Pollin is going to pay the City its costs for said land grab or if the city works out a way to hand over these properties.

  28. Pandora says:

Cassandra, I have been trying to find this out as well – I rremember Hercules getting incentives to move into the city. It seems, sometimes, the city gives away a lot in the name of growth. I’m not necessarily against this, but when it comes to funding a school district we need to consider if this is financially feasible.
