Markell Calls Out Leg Hall Fossils on Wind Power: Carney MIA

Filed in National by on January 6, 2008

I liked Jack’s letter which simply asks WTF? (paraphrase) The actual letter reads in part:

“We have come so far in this process, and so much evidence has mounted that Delaware can become home to the nation’s first off shore wind farm, that any agency head not prepared to accept the Power Purchase Agreement must answer this question: What new evidence has come forth that leads us to believe the Power Purchase Agreement is not the best possible outcome of the process anticipated and directed by legislators in passing HB 6 in the first place?”

“So far no such evidence has been brought forth, and if there is still information that casts doubt on this fact, the public deserves to see every one of those details immediately.”

“After a competitive process ordered by HB 6 and after considerable analysis and public scrutiny, the offshore wind proposal was judged to be the state’s best option. The process by which this was determined was public and fair,”

“Not moving forward with the proposed bid sets in place a precedent that can only lead to madness.”

That is a straight up bitch slap.

  1. Agreed, I have attended the rallys for Wind Power and also attended the PSC meeting on the 18th when they punted.

We did cable shows in Sussex and Kent on energy in December, I will gladly give you that 30 minute video.

We are missing a great opportunity, we need to move on Wind Power and more alternatives.

We will do a public event later this month on energy for the state’s future outside of the Wind Power issue.

Jack is correct in his sentiments.

  2. Fonzy says:

    Wow!

This really speaks volumes about how little Markell knows about getting things done in Dover. I mean seriously, this is pretty pitiful.

If this is how the guy communicates with Legislative Leadership and members of the Administration to advance an important policy goal then he has no business running for Governor (or even remaining the State Treasurer).

If only we could harness the hot air machine that is the Markell PR operation, we would solve all of our energy problems, and then some.

  3. feralkid says:

    Let me slap back.

    Anyone but Bluewater.

Get competitive bids from other companies for the exact same project.

You’ll be sending Bluewater home empty handed.

  4. Jason330 says:

I guess Fonzy is suggesting that Carney is, even now, pulling some backroom magic that is going to spring the wind power deal loose.

Just what we need, more backroom backscratching.

  5. disbelief says:

In response to Fonzy’s critique on Markell’s approach to the Legislature:

A couple of years ago another state-wide office holder attacked the Leg Hall for its foot-dragging on health care issues; his name was Mat Denn. Seemed to work well there.

  6. Fonzy says:

If you want to be Governor, you have to work with the 62 members of the General Assembly. This is true even if you don’t like them, and they don’t like you .

It’s the only way to actually get things done, as opposed to the cheap political theater that Markell has stooped to here.

This letter proves Markell has no conception of how to actually get things done in our state capitol. He would rather score cheap political points that get lapped up by the blogarazzi. The guy is a minute steak.

As further evidence that this is a bone head play, Protack loved it. That ought to tell you something as well…

  7. Fonzy says:

    In response to Disbelief…

Denn never stooped to this, trying to score political points at the expense of the other people he needed to work with to achieve a policy goal. If he did, he never would have gotten anything accomplished.

Refer me to his “bitch slap” letter if you would.

  8. Sagacious Steve says:

Markell has an excellent understanding of how the General Assembly works, and has been able to enact some pretty visionary initiatives with GA support.

He has, however, challenged the good ol’ boy closed-door way of doing business, especially when it comes to how a few legislators have anonymously thwarted the will of the many.

I consider that a real good thing, and it is the kind of leadership I would want in a new Governor.

If this race is to be decided on who best challenges the narrow visionless self-serving status quo currently enveloping Dover, then Markell has laid his marker down in a most effective manner.

  9. Al Mascitti says:

Hey Fonzy, are you on Carney’s payroll, or are you just a mindless lockstep Democrat? You know, the kind who thinks it’s “his turn”? If you’re not, please explain why Jack Markell and not John Carney is the one who ought to be challenging Mike Castle. You know, since Carney has never actually won an election for anything but the crucially important post of Lt. Gov.

Basically, if you want to start running around claiming people don’t know how to “work with” the General Assembly, maybe you ought to cough up some examples of Carney influencing the Senate leadership instead of the power and influence running in the other direction….

  10. disbelief says:

Fonzy, go to Denn’s website if you want several examples of doing the right things whether or not the right thing had the support of the Legislature. Fonzy’s argument seems to be based on a warm reception to the tried and failed method of daisy-chain back-scratching.

  11. Fonzy says:

“You know, since Carney has never actually won an election for anything but the crucially important post of Lt. Gov.”

Al, if what you say is true, then doesn’t this argue for Jack Markell taking on Castle? As you say, if Carney never won anything of importance, Jack is then the better candidate to help the D’s claim the House seat.

Markell is a gifted (albeit shameless) self promoter. We are seeing a sneak preview of how a Markell Administration would operate.

“Government by task force” replaced with “Government by press release.”

  12. disbelief says:

If we’re doing a “woulda, shoulda, coulda” fantasy football player pick here, Fonzy’s points would be better made with Denn vs. Castle, Markell as Gov, and Carney staying in his quiet, plodding, Lt. Governorship.
